MX needs to show more love for "When I'm 64". :(
Will you still need me, will you still feed me, when I'm 64?
I'd say MMT is pretty underrated. No one mentions it, but it has some of their best songs ever on it. I personally think the first four tracks are pretty average (only in relation to other Beatles stuff. i.e. they're all amazing) but I Am the Walrus and all the tracks after it are unbelievably good.

Oh baby, that would be what God would make if he was a musician.
Well, Strawberry Fields Forever was originally gonna be on Sgt. Pepper's (or released alongside it), but they had to release a single due to their contract, and they released that and Penny Lane in February 67.....Sgt. Pepper's wasn't released until June, and MMT came out that November (filling up the rest of the album with several singles that had been released that weren't on albums).

in the opening statement he says "i think beatles were more of a studio band than a live band" in the beatles anthology book it says that they didnt even reherse there songs when they where doing a live show. the crowd was so crazy you couldnt even hear what they were playing. so they didnt even try. then on show the crowd was very calm and sat in there chiars and listened, they were not ready for that and sounded aweful.
the places they played at had so much security becuase people treid to climb onstage. there concerts where chaos. ive never experinced one of them becuase im only 17 but this is what ive read from the beatles anthology book.

Let It Be ...Naked is the just the straight studio recordings. It doesn't have the orchestra(sp?) like the original version had.

Cool. Its always interesting to hear other artists attempt to pull off Beatles songs (like the "I am Sam" soundtrack) but they rarely pull it off, unfortunately.

I dont really agree actually...... Bono was the fifth beatle. They were really more a skiffle band from the 1980's. A mersey beat group from ireland. Lennon always said that it was better to not be irish and to stay at home in bed..... you know... "Bed Peace" But really it was Bono who made the Beatles. Without Bono no one would even know who Elvis is. I mean... COME ON! It's the BEATLES FOR CRYING OUT LOUD!

*BONO VOX*
12-05-2004, 02:02 AM
Hey Jude was not a b side dumbass. It was on the album called HEY JUDE. Ringo was a good drummer, he just couldn't read music. He played to fit the music, which is more than we can say about most modern day drummers. John had the best solo career. They're later stuff was better... namely because it was more complicated, and Bob Dylan introduced them to more in depth lyrics and drugs. The early stuff was good too. YOU'RE RIGHT! ITS CATCHY! Excellent hooks. That cant be taught... its all instinct. Sergent peppers, while revolutionary was NOT their best album ( And not the first concept album. That was Pet Sounds by the "beach boys" George Harrison was phenominal. Paul, though a bit of an ***, was a sweet bass player (Dear Prudence IS the one to check out). John hated the sound of his own voice. Yoko DID NOT break apart the band. Let it be Naked WAS NOT A STUDIO ALBUM!!! IT WAS A STRIPPED DOWN LIVE OFF THE FLOOR ALBUM! The original tapes of the let it be session. Ringo is NOT dead. You can see John playing in the Bath in the movie "A Hard Days Night" (Best part of the whole freakin thing) Yes, they couldnt act. Ringo wasn't the VOICE of the conductor on Thomas the Tank engine.... HE WAS THE CONDUCTOR. The White album is awsome. Heck.... they're all awsome. There was a guy in the band before they were the Beatles who couldnt actually play guitar... he just stood there with one because he wanted to be in the band. Ringo was funny. John was the leader. Paul IS Sir Paul McCarntney... BUT his first name isn't Paul. It's James. Johns middle name was Winston.... but he changed it to Ono when got married. Brian Epstien (thats their manager...) commited suicide. Revolution 9 is all tape loops...... It's interesting from a studio point of veiw and actually quite complicated and impressive. They were the FIRST band to use tape loops AND backwards guitar (cause it is a tape loops!) AND the Sitar in the western world.... IT WASNT THE STONES!.. god bless their souls, but it wasnt them. The Beatles have two stories for where they got their name..... 1) The Beatles a spoof off of buddy holly's Crickets... spelt with an A in "beetles" to make the word "Beat" directly mentioning the Beat poets (if you dont know what that is... you never will) 2) (Lennons version) "Well I had this dream and a man came to me on a flaming pie and said 'you're going to be the beatles.... with an a' " For proof check out McCartneys album "Off the Ground " and the liner notes on the song "Flaming pie" 3 words... "the Butcher cover"... an early protest to the Vietnam war which became the album Beatles 65'... which features the band on the cover sitting nicely with umbrellas.... instead of pieces of meat and broken dolls (The "Butcher cover" was recalled in the first week and is very rare.) one more thing....
ANYONE WHO SAYS THEYRE MUSIC IS SIMPLE........... Try. Just TRY notating note for note one of they're later peices. I suggest starting with Chords... then drums, bass..... work it up from there. Oh and a warning..... Not everythings in four four. Also they borrow chords. For example in the key of C (I'll try and keep this simple but I'm using 7th chords here) there is Cmaj7 Dmin7 Emin7 Fmaj7 G7 Amin7 and Bmin7(b5) they would use those and then take more from lets say.... G maj. so there you have Gmaj7 Amin7 Bmin7 Cmaj7 D7 Emin7 and F#min7(b5) So in otherwords..... theyd take say.... C F and G from the C scale and D7 and F#min7(b5) from G. FOR ANYONE WHOS STILL READING! That is why they sounded so different. They were the FIRST band to hit America in the First wave british invasion carrying with them the classical chord structures they had grown up with, mushed into a rock n' roll beat. Frickin awsome. Anyone who can copy their post Dylan influenced music exactly..... kudos to you cause it's really REALLY hard.
Now.... could we please talk about Bono.

the hey jude album came out just before the white album. it was mostly new recordings but had a few of their earlier songs like i saw her standing there and can't but me love.
also on the album is the single version of revolution. with a lot of hard guitar and a great scream by lennon at the beginning of the song. the other version of revolution is on the beatles ( the white album )
the ballad of john and yoko can be found on the hey jude album along with paperback writer.
all in all, the album contained some of their finest work.
hey jude was the first song to be played on the radio which was over five minutes long. all the radio stations agreed to change their format so that they could play the song. which was a single and had one of the first music videos ever made.
music videos were made by the beatles as promotional tools to help sell their albums. although they came up with revolutionary ideas to promote their music, they were terrible business men and nearly went bankrupt with apple records. their record lable.

Since the blue album has the later songs (its 1967-70, right?) I would start off buying an earlier album like "Hard Day's Night" or "Help!", they have lots of great songs as well. But if you want to stick with the later stuff, go with the albums mentioned above :thumb:

I haven't been able to find this anywhere and I was wondering if its even true.. anyone know anything?

Did anyone here know that The Ramones named themselves after Paul McCartney? When he was in Wings, his little brother had a band, and whenever Paul had a guest appearance with his brother, he'd be listed as "Paul Ramone" and not Paul McCartney. Ramones named themselves that in tribute to McCartney. Don't know if its true, but its an interesting idea.

I thought he was saying that he was a guest player for his little brother. And he didn't want to steal the spotlight or anything, so he used a pseudonym (I'm not sure if that is what he means though). But it seems pointless, since when they go see them live people will likely recognize Paul...

Yeah, except it was guest appearances on albums. Like, on the album, it would say "guest vocals/bass/wahtever by Paul Ramone." Thats just what I heard though, not positive if its true.

I went to see a Beatles tribute band a while back. Twas an amazing show.
Funny story involved in the show
The dude who was portraying John Lennon said "Are there any hippies in the house", and I alone in the very top row stood up and screaming "HELL YEA!" and "John Lennon" replied "Ok thats one guy...."

Wasn't that why he was allowed to join the band in the first place? He played some solo (I think it was an Eddie Cochrane tune, I'm not sure) upside down, and John was impressed enough to let him join the Quarrymen.

I found my dad's cassettes and one of them was Bad Company. I listened to it and in the song "Shooting Star," it says something like '...Johnny learned his first Beatles song, Love Me Do I think it was and from there it didnt take him long...' Then I was babysitting and I stumbled upon Beatles 1 (which I noticed had Love Me Do on it) and decided I needed to buy it. From then on I was hooked and continued to spend all my money on Beatles CDs. My dad helped me get even more into them because he was a huge Beatles fan back in the day. He told me that he almost got to go to a Beatles concert in 1964, but he and his siblings decided not to go because they didnt think they would be able to hear the music or anything.

I acutally respected the beatles a little about 3 years ago, and after i heard Beatles 1...i really didnt like them that much, the songs really didnt apeal to me except a couple, but after i heard Sgt Peppers Lonely Hearts club band, i loved them, and found a deeper respect for their music.
Our local radio station in Philadelphia (102.9), Has something called Breakfast with the Beatles every morning, about a half an hour on weekdays, and about 3 hours on Sunday morning (which is when i listen to it), but they play everything beatles related, songs, covers, unreleased material, and stuff i have no idea how they got their hands on, but its pretty cool.
But no, my parents never influeneced me to listen to the beatles...i wonder why?

How I got into the Beatles? This is the story of my life.
I was always kinda into them. We'd bring our Beatle cassettes with us on car trips starting around fifth grade (btw for relevance I'm a senior now), and these tapes were Sgt. Pepper's/MMT era. I was kinda into them, but not really. Also, before I was 6, Yellow Submarie was my favorite movie, but I saw our copy so many times I ruined it before I finished Kintergarten.
In summer of 99, I got really depressed for multiple reasons. Then they re-released Yellow Submarine and stuff. Purely for nostalgic purposes, I bought the movie that week-end, and when I saw it the next day, and I listened to Nowhere Man, something in my mind clicked. Because I was exactly that....every lyric was talking about me! I fell in love with The Beatles ever since then.
Oh, and MMT>Revolver, mostly because I've just had MMT for a couple of weeks, and not enough time to get over the "Yay, sweet new badass music" stage I hit, whereas I got Revolver two years ago.

I know who you're talking about, but don't remember his name. He I believe filled in for Ringo during their first world tour in 1964 while they were in Australia I think. He was in for two weeks, because Ringo was really sick.
Also, John died 24 years ago (I think that's already been mentioned). I walked over where he got shot too, and I've been to the Strawberry Fields section of Central Park.

hi guys,
i just like to say that the beatles r clearly the best band ever.
Cmon they recorded 214 songs in 7 years they are very good song writers and they r great. Now wat is everyones fave album and song by the beatles, for me that is a hard question my fave original album is let it be or abbey road but alot of people dissagree. There early music was great, a hard days night was a classic album same with rubber soul and sgt peppers there both great sgt peppers was there biggest turning point compared to Revolver and my least fave album is yellow sumbarine. THere is no way i have a fave song by them, there is 2 many to choose from.
My fave album by them is Past Masters Vol 2 but i no that it is not original but it has the best songs on it.
So have a think and reply
