Thanks :)
It's ok if you don't buy it, but IMO it is not worth 30$. The album is pretty bad and has alot of yoko screaming/yodeling, but has a few "good" songs (By good I mean listenable)
The second disk came free with the album when it was released, and it is a live preformance/ jam with Frank Zappa and the Mothers of Invention, and although it has it's weak points with more Yoko screaming, it is considered to be good ( I can't remeber if I liked it or not, I heard it before I really knew who Zappa was)

Hmmm. Well, I'm not a big fan of Zappa, some is good, but I just can't get into it. And I'm certainly not a fan of Yoko screaming. I think I'll pass that one up.

Yep, and a vocals-only version of Beacause which is somewhat notable IMO
Ok, This is a version of "And Your Bird Can Sing" where John and Paul were attempting to sing the lead vocals to the instumental/backing vocal track while under the obvious influence of certain substances:

For a second there I thought you were asking if anyone had been personally introduced to the Beatles by there parents, like "Hey hids, I want you to meet someone"
I found Sgt. Peppers, Disc 1 of the White album, Abbey Road and much later Disc 2 and Let It Be in my parent's collections, so I guess so

My dad actually had met Paul, John, and Yoko when he was living in London. He was a huge Beatles freak, he went to London in 62, before they had come to the US, and became hooked. So yeah, my dad definitely turned me onto the Beatles. He's a Beatlemaniac.

I found Sgt. Peppers in my dad's room, thought "heh I liked this when I was little, what the hell" and so I put it in my CD player and left it on so I could clean my room, and then I thought it meritted my listening to it again, so I put it in my CD player and listend to it in school, and then on the bus, for like a month straight until I found the white album and over-listened to that, then I found Magical Mystery Tour (It was <3<3) found Revolver later, got someone to burn me Rubber Soul and 1, found Disc 2 of the white album, Found Let It be, my neighbor had Please Please Me and A Har Day's Night, Found Abbey Road in some woman's car, got Beatles For Sale for Christmas, and my Sister bought With the Beatles and Help! and Yellow Submarine. I do believe we have all of them all...
I remeber the first time I listened to every single one

I think that John had the best solo career by far. I think John's music was much more interesting and creative than Paul's. This could be due to the fact that I connect with John's ideals and songs more, though.
My favorite Beatles were always in this order: John, George, Paul, and then Ringo. I like John for his more "rocking" songs and interesting subject. George is my second favorite, because he is one of the best artist I've ever heard at writing "sensitive" type songs. I don't like Paul as much, because his songs seem overly sweet to me, although I do like some of his songs a lot. Ringo is my least favorite because he had the least amount of songs so you really can't judge him.

I felt like I hated Paul for a while too. I realized though that some of his compositions were truly great (in my opinion) such as Lovely Rita, For No One, Blackbird and Helter Skelter.
I also had trouble between choosing between John and George for a while too. I eventually found that I liked John better though because he had so many more good songs. My favorite John songs are Happiness is a Warm Gun, A Day in the Life, Strawberry Fields Forever, You've Got to Hide Your Love Away and Norwegian Wood.
I hope you eventually start to like Paul, because he was a good songwriter and musician, even if he wasn't as good as John or George. So give some of those McCartney songs another chance and perhaps they'll grow on you and then you'll be able to enjoy even more of the Beatles' music.

Dude, get out. If it wasn't for Paul, there would be no Beatles. He was one of the best bassists who ever lived. Listen to the bass lines in Hello, Goodbye, Penny Lane, or just any other song. Listen how he sings and yet plays such a technical bass line at the same time. No one could do that at that time...
Oh, and I disagree that George had the best solo career. Most of his songs were religious and about life.
I think that John had the best solo career because his songs were abstract and you had to think about them. He also had the best voice, I think. (Him or Paul.)

Taxman, learn how to edit posts.
People, if he says he hates Paul, he says he hates Paul. I don't know why he hates Paul, but don't go flipping out about it. I love Pink Floyd, I post in that thread VERY regularly, and I find that Roger Waters was a bit of a prick. I respect his songwriting abilities tremendously, but I don't like his character. Does that mean I can't post there? No. Paul is a very big liberal political activist, heavily into PETA and all that, and if someone doesn't agree with him personally, they have the right to say so. Now, like I said, I don't know why he said he doesn't like Paul, but at least try and find out if he has a decent reason before mindlessly telling him to leave my thread.

As a musician I respect paul for the most part. Of course the beatles wouldn't be the same, and I too really love some of pauls work.
As a person... He just seems annoying to me.. REALLY annoying.. Don't ask me why, prolly some trauma I had when I was younger. But he's always been my least favorite beatle. Just personality wise he has done some things I don't care much for.
Perhaps "hate" was too strong a word, but whatever.

Well if he hates Paul then he doesn't really belong in a Beatles thread. Hating Paul would cancel out 90% of Sgt. Pepper, and probably more than 50% of The Beatles songs. The four of them together made the beatles what they were. So it doesn't seem right to like three of them...and also he didnt give any reason why he hates Paul. He just said I hate Paul all I know is I hate Paul...**** I hate Paul.

He said after, that he hates Paul's personality, and gave him credit for much of the Beatles work. I'm not that fond of Paul's personality either. Don't even bring that up, every time i hear that i get angry because of how the remark was twisted around by the media. He was simply making an observation that there were more people at their concerts, than there were people attending church. But it was twisted around so badly that they made him sound like he thought they were better than jesus. Goddam media

Yeah, I don't think he ment it as a "we're better then Jesus" remark but more as a take on what the world has come too, when a pop-band can be more "popular" then Jesus himself.
basically what lepper said.

I agree it was twisted by the media and whatnot, but regardless of why he said it, it is undisputable that the words "we are more popular than Jesus" or some variant thereof were spoken by Lennon. Why? Who cares. The point is he said it, and no matter why, it takes an ego to say something like that.
When he said "We're more popular than Jesus" he was making a religious remark. Because of the decline of Christianity in Europe, and the rising of Beatlemania, John was comparing them as an analogy that no one seemed to get.
Stupid media. *pouts*

You are totally right about how complex Pauls basslines were. He also sang at he same time and did a great job indeed for how those basslines are played.

Dude, you've already raised a stink in the FF thread. Please don't come to my thread making ridiculously ignorant statements.
1. Their teeth and haircuts have no bearing on their music.
2. They didn't write stupid love songs. Their earlier albums were largely based around love songs and covers, true (although they pretty much revolutionised the purpose of albums from being backups to the single). By Help! their songwriting was really maturing, and moving away from the stereotype you're talking about.
3. No talent? You've got to be kidding me. Phil Collins, drummer of prog band Genesis is on record as saying that Ringo Starr did stuff that drummers now would find very hard to imitate. Paul McCartney was proficient in multiple instruments and revolutionised the role of the bass guitar in modern music. George Harrison is renowned as having one of the best feels for his instrument of the '60s era of music.
Please, don't make that your last post in the thread by the way...it's gotten boring over the last few weeks, and this could be quite fun.

I've heard his Back in the USA live album and it was pretty good. He even did well at th superbowl, so I think his new tour will be a good one.
Yeah Back in the US is a really good album, I enjoy it a lot. You forgot to mention he was phenomenal during Live 8. Except when he sang just the last bit of Hey Jude for 7 minutes. He could have done the whole song.
He was incredible at Live 8...his opening the show with U2 was so good, especially as they'd barely rehearsed it apparently, but the best song he did was easily Helter Skelter. I'm a massive fan of that song, and just the way that it's so intense compared to some of the band's other work, but the way he did it live was amazing. His drummer was going completely mental as well.
His drummer was amazing in that song. Everytime they zoomed in on him, he had this face of just built of rage during the "When I get to the bottom I go back to the top of the slide..." and the finally when that ended he just went nuts on everything.
I didn't like the Long and Winding Road. I was really looking foward to it, but it was kind of a dissapointment.
What other songs did he play?

I can describe the set as very well lighted, it has a white floors and white rims around the audience. I have only found 2 performances, the Beethoven one and Cant Buy Me Love. I would love to know what concert/show and where I could buy the full one.

That doesn't make sense. Older means earlier. You mean the later Beatles. And I agree with you.
We got Get Back, which was kind of cool, Drive My Car which he dueted with George Michael (formerly of Wham! on), which was surprisingly good, Helter Skelter, Long And Winding Road and a semi-version of Hey Jude. I'd say Long And Winding Road was the worst song out of those, although I never liked it as a song in itself to begin with. I doubt he would have played it (seriously, Let It Be was made for a show like Live 8), but Geldof asked him to because it was meant to kick off the start of people heading up to Edinburgh.
Ah yes, thanks for refreshing my memory. Get Back was good. Drive My Car was excellent, Helter Skelter you already have my opinion on :p. I stand by my opinion that The Long and Winding Road was a dissapointment. I wished he could have played the whole Hey Jude instead of just the "Na-na-na-nananana's" because what he played at the Super Bowl was fantastic.

I think he has a good drummer. Seemed a bit out of place the first time I seen him (Live 8), but I think he's worthy. Making playing look really intense though...good show.
My local radio station is doing Beatles A-Z this weekend. Their playing every beatles song every recoded in alphabetical order, they started on friday at 3:00 and finished saturday at 1:00 (w/ commercials). Their stating again saturday at 6:00, its really sweet.
Occasionally I would follow the songs they were doing on my mp3 player since it organizes it all alphabetically, and apperently Im missing one beatles album, but i dont know which one. Its defintaly early, but i cant find a decent discography without singles/vinyl/Greatest hits/random crap tied in to just regular studio albums. but Im doing better then i thought....

That's what I mean. He's a good drummer and all, does a good Ringo impression, but he just seems out of place. He's the kind of drummer I'd expect to see in a heavy metal band, not in Paul McCartney's band.

I loved reading about their time in Hamburg, when John would get drunk, go up on stage in his underwear and a toilet seat around his neck, and call the audience ****ing Nazis
My favorite Beatles song right now is I Should Have Known Better. I need to buy A Hard Day's Night (the cd).
That was my favourite song after I watched A Hard Days Night too! :( I want to see Help I recorded A Hard Days Night off TV...and bought Yellow Submarine. But Help isnt at any video stores...and I really wanna see it.

Help is seriously my favorite movie of all time. It is completly retarted. The plot makes absolutly no sense. Let me just say it involves Ringo, an ancient tribal huma sacrafice ring, and an ancient island indian tribe. Oh yeah. theres singing too!
An another thing that makes this film so great is the fact the the guys were stoned through most of the production.

Yeah, I read about it in the Anthology which is why I'm so keen to see one, being stoned and making some off-the-wall movie and knowing that because of your fame that it will be viewed by millions of people must have been a great feeling.

On the "Fly on the Wall" CD or whatever the bonus CD is that comes with Let it Be....Naked, there's a brief section where John plays the first bit of Imagine on the piano, but its still a very infant idea at that point in time.

PS-Alot of their solo work seems to have been developed in the last days of Beatle-dom. I wonder what Imagine/Teddy Boy/All Things Must Pass (all songs developed as Beatles)would sound like if they were done in the Beatle-era

Imagine wouldn't be too much different IMO. The bass line would be more complex, because Klaus Voorman never ever did anything beyond the most basic basslines, I"m sure Paul would spiffy it up like he did with Something.
Also there might be some guitar work from George as well.

I feel that way with a lot of songs on the White Album. They just have little elements that are annoying. I think one interesting thing, though, is how a lot (if not all) songs on it end with a little random bit, and all those random bits appear in Revolution 9.

They could have recorded it on a different track. They had to have had at least 4-tracks by 1968-- The Grateful Dead had 16 in 1969
Paul did double-tack harmonies with himself as early as 1963 with "A Taste of Honey" on Please Please Me, so it's definatly possible
I read somewhere that it was Paul, but I guess it could be any one of them. Sometimes, rarely, I can't tell them apart. Like who screams "She loves you yeah yeah yeah" at the end of All You Need Is Love?

He didnt do it to be famous. I watched something on the life channel yesterday called John Lennon: The Man Who Shot. And Dave Chapman said he did it because of the book the catcher in the rye. He was following the book, and he believed John Lennon was a big phony. It's really messed up.

Oh my I think we were watching the same show, sept for I saw it on the History Channel.
What I ment is he wanted to be remembered for that, he was going to kill himself until he read that book and thought of John as one of the hypocrites in the book. He was very envyous of John and hated him so he decided he'd take Johns' life; to be the man who killed a legend.
But that guy changes his mind on why he did it every 5 years. I remember like when he wanted to get out on parol he said he did it cause he was just plain crazy or something.

you see, despite being asian, and therefore more attractive than most normal woman, yoko ono actually used her beautiful asianality to lure lennon into a government trap. as you know, the government was watching lennon, they percieved as a threat to national security, he was a drug user, and was sort of like a pied piper into weird freaky hippy hedonism for kids. now yoko ono was japanese, we all know that there was a great mistrust of japanese in america around those times following world war 2 and the cold war. why do you think yoko ono got away with all the stuff she did, she cut a deal on the behalf of japan with the american government to nix lennon forever. they hired the gunman, planted a fake story, and made him shoot lennon, thus ending the threat. the reason no one knows why he shot lennon is because the government never came up with a good story, so you can believe that he wanted to be famous, or the book the catcher in the rye made him do it.
