My favorite George songs probably The Inner Light, It's All Too Much, Only A Northern Song, Taxman, Here Comes the Sun, and the lyrics of Within You Without You.

And about Ringo I don't think I've ever heard anyone say anything bad about Ringo's personality. they may he's a bad drummer or stuff like that but you really can't say anything about Ringo, he's just a nice guy.

I don't think he's a bad drummer either, though. Ringo is an awesome drummer, a lot of those songs were really hard to keep the rhthym to, like "Good Morning".

Or Rain. Which is one of my favorite all time songs by them, as far as bass and drums go at least

I'd say my favorite Harrison songs are While My Guitar Gently Weeps and Here Comes the Sun, in that order. Here Comes the Sun always feels way too short though. And Clapton was not in Plastic Ono Band, but was in Dirty Mac. The Dirty Mac's only recorded performance is on the Rolling Stones Rock N' Roll Circus CD or DVD. It has Lennon, Clapton, Keith Richards on bass, and I think Jim Gordon on drums, but not sure. It also unfortunately has Yoko's wailing and screaming.

I used to watch that show all the time, and my mom always used to go on about the conductor on the show. I think she annoyed me, and I remebered that, and then she mentioned it again and I realized it was Ringo

They almost got back together in the 70's when Lorne Michaels offered them 3000$ to play 3 songs. This was just a joke on a sketch, because people were offering the beatles thousands to get back together. Theres a sad movie about that, well its about paul and john after the beatles split and at the end, John and Paul are packing their guitars into a car, paul gets in and john goes to say goodbye to Yoko, and John comes back to the car and says "Sorry paul [insert something about yoko not wanting John to go course they had planed something before]"

Entierly fictional of course, but sad that they got so close to doing it.

I know this forum talks about the same topics in a cycle, and i'm sure the John Lennon death conspiracy has probably popped up 3 or 4 times but,
Theres a conspiracy that Charles Manson was a "brain washed" former fbi hitman, and how that the last 2 assainations (martin luther king, Robert Kennedy) happend when the president at the time was reaching the end of his run just like the president when john lennon was shot...

And "apparently" Charles Manson acted calmly after he'd taken john lennon out as if he thought John Lennon was a task that had been assinged to him.

also john lennon was one of the most influencial people at the time, hence a threat to the american president at the time because his protests on the Vietnam War etc constantly made front page and, in the example of the Vietnam war, John Lennon along with the media made the people realise what was really happening in the vietnam war and that in turn stopped the war and brought an end to a presidents reign.... what president wouldnt want john lennon out of their face.

Also apparently since 1972 or 74 john lennon's apparentment etc was being watched by the FBI...

You know somthing I always loved about Lennon's lyrics is if he was writing a song about love or happieness you would be able to feel how happy he was when he wrote the song, or if he was down you can feel it too, like with My Mummy's Dead. White Albums my favorite. Then probably Rubber Soul and Abbey Road. I really love all of them though. There is so little difference between their albums in terms of quality. The thing that really shows how great all of their albums are is that if you asked 5 Beatles fans to name their favorite, you'd probably get 5 different answers.

I found this to be weird. Many Beatle fans consider "The White Album" to be the Beatles greatest album, yet it didnt even have one number 1 hit.

Just because it didn't have any hits doesn't mean that it was genius and innovative.

Top five beatles records:

1. Abbey Road
2. White Album
3. Let it Be
4. Sgt. Pepper's
5. Help!

There are 7 albums from Rubber Soul on.

Edit- My favorite Beatles song right now is probably Get Back.

Right now "Across the Universe". (not all time though)

ATU is my default favorite beatles song. The first time I heard it I couldn't speak or think right for hours
I was on the bus when I first heard it, (my bus ride was 30 min. or so through the woods), and it was early fall, during a rainstorm. I had just found Let It Be the night before. I could barely see out the window to stare out of it (which is all there is to do on such a busride), and when I heard the first few measures I was in full-body paralysis
My English teacher wasn't in for D-Block, and he didn't leave us any work, so I got my CD player (this was before they were banned) and sat next to the big windowsill and watched a torrential downpour over the courtyard/athletic fields/mountains/river. By the time he class was over I was soaked, and I sat that way in Spanish class. I was still quite spacy

That is so true, I mean look at Bob Dylan's stuff before he went electic, or John Lennon's solo career. People get so caught up with trying to make the most complex hard to play song that by the end they are playing somthing that they only wrote to be hard, rather then writing somthing simple but from the heart.

He bought the rights to most of the songs from Paul McCartney.

Ironically, Paul was the one who told him to buy rights to songs because it's a good investment.

I watched an Interview where Paul was saying Northern Songs (all of the Beatles music, except for their first album I think and some of Harrison's later ones) was up for sale again in the mid-80s, so whoever owned the rights (never the Beatles) was selling it for some reasons. Micheal Jackson bought it because of Paul's suggestions.

That's not true.

Paul only owns four songs, and they are really early ones, like love me do.

The beatles' company Apple was doing very poorly in 1969 and their new manager Allen Klein convinced them (except paul) that the best thing to do was to float the company on the stockmarket. They made a lot of money quick, but sometime in the 80's Michael Jackson bought the lot.

Yeah it dosn't sound like something he'd do but i dunno. As for MJ i beleive now that hes losing his money sony is going to buy the songs, but i really hope paul gets them eventually. I also just watched I am Sam last night, and hes got a lot of cool john lennon posters.

Walrus Gumboot

I thought it was more like the rights to the songs (royalties and such) were divided up 1/3 to the Beatles 1/3 to the record company, and 1/3 to whomever wanted to buy them. If MJ owned the rights to 100% of the songs, then McCartney wouldn't be able to use his songs anymore, but he can, because he owns the copyrights (I think)

In short, I don't think it is like "Bobby owns 3 songs and Suzie gives him 2, how many songs does Bobby have now"

I've got the very best of John Lennon, and I've got a bunch of Paul McCartney tunes on my computer. I've found that McCartney's strength are his melodies, alot of his lyrics can be a bit cheesy, like put it there "Give me your hand, I'd like to shake it, I wanna show you Im your friend" but once it get's to the chorus it's just too catchy to resist.

But i've heard...pretty much nothing from George, and I've heard a few songs from Ringo. Ringo's stuff is really catchy and sounds like beatle material, but his voice isnt the best out there. I've gone threw my John phase and my Paul phase, so now, what are some good Ringo/George songs/albums I should check out?

Hmm it may be the Farenheit 9/11 on tv behind me, but I think we really need a band like the Beatles. We need some good clean songs that everyone can enjoy. Like "All you need is love" that is one of the best messages and truest messages ever in a song. There's very few great positive songs that could be anthems these days. I think "Let There Be Love" by Oasis of their latest cd could be a really good anthem.

****! Thanks to the guy who uploaded "Plastic Ono Band" it's an awesome album! I'd never heard that version of Mother. I only heard the single edit. And I was suprised to hear many John Lennon songs I hadnt heard before. Well Well Well is really great and sounds like a Jimi Hendrix song to me.

I don't quite see the appeal of The White Album. Some of it I love, but some of it I just don't like all that much. In my opinion, Abbey Road > Rubber Soul > The White Album.

Well what I like about the White Album is how diverse it is. I mean Abby Road, in all its greatness, is mostly a rock album. The White Album touches nearly every genre rock. I wouldn't dismiss some songs on the White Album as fillers like Revolution #9 is often called a filler, but its more of John trying to be artistic. Its like Pink Floyds tracks from Dark Side of the Moon like On The Run. They arn't fillers, just the artist trying to work outside instruments.

It just gets me so mad that people at my school always say that they are a bunch of british punks that sing about being in love. With all the mainstream crap and all these ganster wannabees with their rap nobody just gives them a chance. People at my school compare them to the likes of the Ramones saying that the Ramones are way better. I don't understand why they don't listen to hardcore beatles (by hardcore I mean stuff that isn't on the Radio) stuff such as "the end" "Across the Universe" etc. you know what I mean Anyways, my favorite song gots to be All You need is Love cuz it inspires me so much to do stuff. The story behind why there are two sorts of Revolutions

Around the time of the recording of the White Album they were looking for singles to put out, which were not going to appear on the album. Hey Jude was decided to be the A-side, of course. Lennon push what will become to be known as Revolution 1, but the other Beatles said that it was too slow to be the B-side of Hey Jude, so Lennon decided to fasten the tempo and make it more heavy, so he came up with Revolution. Since the singles came out first, Lennon decided then to name the one that would appear on the White Album Revolution 1 to avoid confusions and so that people wouldn't think that they were using one of the singles on the album.

And when they were shooting the promo for Revolution they sang the 'shoo beedo wap' live, which they used on the Revolution 1, to make it more interesting. I think it's sounds better like that.

That's how the song and promo came to be.

Illmatic
08-05-2005, 05:08 PM
I didn't know that.

I mean, I figured that there had to have been a conflict of interests to record two different versions of one song.

slowhand
08-05-2005, 05:43 PM
Sort of. The only reason Lennon did it was because he felt that the message he was trying to give out in his song had to go out to the world. If not, he wouldn't have changed the song.

So, the original one is the slow one. But I preffer Revolution.
