you obviously are deaf then.

Anyway, all today i had the intro to 'the rage' in my head so i just had to go and learn it to get it out of my system.

If you like Maiden that much, post in the Maiden thread! I just used Maiden as a example, because I KNOW that many people agree that they sound very much the same.

By the way: I listened to tracks from Seventh Son of a Seventh Son, and from Fear of the Dark. Apart from the synth on Seventh Son, I didn't hear any big difference in the style or sound...

Then why would some people say that they prefer the "Old Maiden" to the "New Maiden"?

I'm not trying to argue, admittedly there isn't the kind of variation between albums that Priest have done but you could've probably used a much better example than Maiden.

quit biching about Maiden plz

or some heads are gonna roll

so did anyone get to see them on that VH1 Rock Honours thing? And if so, did they play anything cool or was it just breaking the law or you've got another thing comin' or something like that?

Yeah, it was Breaking the Law and You Got Another Thing Comin' :(.

Plus, Godsmack sucked at their covers because Sulley can't sing like Rob and they have one guitarist.

So im thinking of getting 'rocka rolla' as my next priest album only becasue the title track is so god dam catchy! Any objections or any albums i should get before that? I only have painkiller and british steel.

Deth
06-21-2006, 10:16 AM
Big objection here. I haven't heard it yet, but I have heard it's a bad representation of Judas Priest. They were still finding their sound then and it's not even really metal. If I may make a suggestion, go with Unleashed in the East.

-The Frank
06-21-2006, 10:29 AM
^^ I downloaded the one you uploaded for the DU. Just forgot to mention it.
Im always a sucker for live albums though.

Deth
06-21-2006, 10:38 AM
Well, in that case I would say Stained Class (which I uploaded yesterday), Screaming for Vengeance, Defenders of the Faith or Sad Wings of Destiny.

Riva

I think Rocka Rolla is a great album. Sure, it isn't Priest's best, but it's still a good buy/download.

-The Frank
06-21-2006, 10:53 AM
I think i might go sad wings of destiny then. Or maybe both :)

Jaffe
06-21-2006, 11:20 AM
Take Sad Wings instead of Rocka Rolla, if you have to choose... Rocka Rolla can hardly be called metal, but it's still a good album. Just don't expect any metal on it.

Riva
06-21-2006, 08:25 PM
But a lot of their early albums were focussed on hard rock. It wasn't until the late '60s/early '70s that the metal side began to emerge.

Sad Wings came out in '76 though, so he's right.

Jaffe
06-23-2006, 12:46 PM
Did you mean the late '60s and early '70s, or late '70s and early '80s? They didn't give out any albums in the late '60s, so that doesn't make any sense to say. Priest started in the late '60s, and played Metal tracks in the early '70s, like for example The Ripper and Victim of Changes. And in the late '70s and early '80s, they definately played Metal.

So, I "win".

Essentially Hard Rock is Heavy Metal, if you look all the way back to when it started it was Rock music played with heavy distortion, so in essence it could be seen as the same thing. By the NWOBHM that's when things began to change into a different style, it was faster and louder (mainly due to advances in technology). :thumb:

I sound like a music boffin and that has prompted me to shut up for the time being.

So chaps.

Anybody got the live Halford album? the tracklisting looks pretty interesting, but I'm wondering how the other band members would handle the Tipton/KK guitar work... especially on Beyond The Realms of Death.

On another note, the song Resurrection canes. Halford goes all out falsetto on the whole thing.

I have it and the Priest songs that they play are all ace, you know Halford wouldn't settle for a lineup that couldn't meet the challenge...

Badass. I'll be picking that up next time I'm down buying CD's.

Funny to think that Patrick Lachman was in Damageplan as a singer... I'm sure he would have been better as a rhythm/lead guitarist.

Ah, Judas Priest, another brilliant band. I own Killing Machine, British Steel, Screaming For Vengeance, Defenders Of The Faith, Ram It Down and Painkiller. DOTF is definitily my favourite. It has so many killer songs like Freewheel Burning, Jawbreaker, The Sentinel (!), Eat Me Alive and Night Comes Down. Too bad I missed them last year on their tour.

Has anyone here seen the Rising In The East DVD? I just remembered that I saw it cheap in a store last week and I was going to buy it, but then decided that I'd ask you lot if it was any good. Then I forgot, and now I'm just getting around to asking. So basically, is it any good?

Go get Screaming For Vengence, and you'll need some 70's input, so get Sad Wings of Destiny. Different flavors of Judas Priest, but it's all great.

Oh yes!

Judas Priest's 70's material is all classic. The first album Rocka Rolla is a bit lacking, but it's still good.

You can pretty much pick up any Priest album with Halford except Turbo, and expect it to be killer stuff.

seeing Hellrider live changed my opinion of the song, its great. the whole "me..ga...tron" annoyed me at first but he did it better live. And the solo, phwoar! Dual cain!

Sad Wings is indeed a very strange album for its mix, and also contains some strange songs. But, it works, and I can never get enough of the IMO overlooked "Isle Of Domination". And come on, Victim of Changes...

I'd agree to that. The problem for Halford is that Priest stuff is so vocally demanding, so he can't really do it all now. Brucey's stuff doesn't put such a strain on his voice.

Gotta love the underwhelming guitar tone.
The only reason the guitar sounds less than impressive to you is because your mind would buckle under the sensory overload from the combined awesomeness of the guitar work and Halford screaming, "Stand by for Exciter!" So your brain shuts part of it out to preserve your eardrums. This is a well-documented evolutionary response to Priest first recorded in the late 70s.

Yea I prefer Maiden's older albums with less acoustic intros. Seems every freaking song on AMOLAD had an acoustic intro. (The only good songs I liked were Different World, Pilgrim, and These Colours Don't Run)

I hope Priest release something like Painkiller. But yeah, since it's a double album, as you said, it will most likely suck *** like most double albums.
