I have a question. When I put any of my games in, the PS2 always just says "Disc Read Error" Does anyone how I can open up my PS2 and clean it.
I know it sounds stupid but I need help.

Is the disc scratched perhaps?

I have taken apart many PS2s and the problem is invariably a dirty laser.
you can find a site that shows you how to do this but you will need a knife or your fingernails, a normal screwdriver (phillips) and a tiny phillips. pop off the square rubber feet and the square plastic cap pieces on the bottom of the Ps2, remove the screws, open up carefully, and remember where everything went. you'll find it easy enough to take the 4 tiny screws off the CD drive and expose the laser. use a carefully selected cotton swab soaked in rubbing alcohol to rub it a bit gently all over and let it airdry, then reassemble and it should work. you only need put the top of the cd drive + those 4 screws back on the drive to test the functionality of the system before reassembly.

FYI you're cleaning the lens of the laser that looks like a water droplet and you're doing this with the system unplugged, with the I/O on off switch flipped on to make sure any caps are drained. it's quite safe.
ive even replaced whole laser assemblies that were broken in PS2s before  trust me, what you're doing is easy enough. get all that dust out of inside while you're at it.
most often the first thing that happens is a PS2 refuses to play purple discs and/or dvds. have a purple, black, and silver PS2 game all handy to test reading as well as a dvd, but if one works they should all work.

I traided it into ebgames and used the credit of that and some games too get the new one.

most users of mx will break their playstation if they try and fix it themselves.
When that same problem happened to me it was because I had burnt the laser out by playing Vice City non-stop (only switching the console off 2 or 3 times) for 3 months. I returned it without warranty to sony. $80AUS and one week later I had a replacement sent to my door.

I don't really want to go get a new laser or PS2. I think it will be cheaper, easier, and faster if I do it myself. Thanks for the suggestion though.

The disc read error problem is usually in the cpu of the unit. Alot of my friends have had that problem with the older ps2's and playstation told them its the problem with the cpu of older ones. the newer ones have had that problem fixed. If its under warranty still, send it to sony and have them fix it. If not, just buy a used one for $50.
i want to get an xbox. the ps2 seems inferior to the xbox.

lol heres a funny story, well its embarasing really, i had the same problem and took my PS2 apart, cleaned the lens and all was working fine once more...anyways when i was screwing the thing back together i couldnt have folded it in properly so i screwed thru the silver cable that connects the front power buttons to the rest of the console, result = couldnt turn console on.
so the waranty had expired, i sent it to a friend who worked offshore and didn't get it back for 4 months :upset: ...i still have the same PS2 today which was bought on PS2 launch day back in 1999-2000 can't quite remember which year but the grandaddy has served me well :p

My PS2 is acting up now. Whenever I go to play a game, it takes a while for the machine to load the game. What could be the problem with it?

Depending on it's age it could be anything, but 9/10 the lens would need cleaning.
