Well its a music board, and a games forum, so i figured this fit. So, there's lots of room for discussion here. To open things up, i figured i'd ask "what's your favorite musical moment in gaming?" a moment where the music really lined up with the moment.....or even the whole score of the game was just really good. My favorite falls in the second category....being the score of "Dark Cloud". Its just a level above the beeps and boops of average gaming....it's intense enough without being overbearing or annoying, and most important it always fits the scenery. So, what's yours?

The music of RPG's is the best. Mostly all the FF and Xenogears are the most memorable.

I'm a monster so don't walk my way.
Don't trust my smile my teeth are like knives.
I'll drag you down & suck you dry.
Don't laugh at my jokes- the punchline is murder.
Don't enjoy my touch, every caress hides a chokehold.
I'm only happy when I've ruined everything I see.
Believe everything you've ever heard about me- suck it up.
If you see me coming don't stop, just turn & walk the other way.
I will not lie about what I have done, I will not lie about what I will do to you, the sweat of
my exertion is pure poison, I'm hell...

ooh forgot about zelda games. some great musical stuff going on there. (Kakariko village especially seems very serene and small-vilage-ey.) and as for FF stuff, FFX had it's moments.... a particular favorite of mine being the Zanarkand scene they used for the opening, that whole piano bit. Thanks for all the replies.

Noebu Uematsu is a genius. Pretty much any FF game has awesome music. MAJOR thumbs down to any game with a techno soundtrack. RPGs demand orchestration, FPSs need industrial-thrash metal. I still can't put my finger on what a good soundtrack for a strategy game is, though. Any thoughts? For example, DOOM's soundtrack rocked.

Alot of the Zelda and Super Mario stuff is quite good. That Koji Kondo really knows how to arrange a game score IMHO.

I love the part in FF8 when you go over to attack dollet and it shows that video sequence of the moons reflection in the water, then the big fleet of ships come and the music is just awsome and killer to set the mood. Best moment in videogame music imho

Morrowind's got some nice music, and the GTA series has definitely had some good tunes. but for pure video game music, I think, without a doubt, it would have to be super mario. koji kondo is a great composer.

FF3/6 had the best soundtrack ever. Usually RPG's have the best soundtracks. Vice city was the best soundtrack out of the GTA's, it owned so much and sucked me so much more into the 80s world. I loved it. :thumb:

Silent Hill 1 had some really good atmospheric music that added even more creepiness to the game. Tony Hawks 4 has some great punk and rock tracks, TNT by AC/DC and Blackball by The Offspring, awesome.

hey witch doctor, schrodinger's cat is not dead.
but i came up with another great moment.... in LoZ wind waker, the travel music when you're on the water. Gives a very majestic, adventurous feel....even though its the same music from the original 8bit game, it takes a whole different feel when you're in the boat. IMHO, anyway.
