View Full Version : Nintendo DS
So who's played the new gameboy? I just got back from Gamestop and the thing is just awesome, way different than what I thought it was gonna be. I played the Metroid demo that it comes with and the utilization of the the top screen and touch pad is pretty sweet. You also get to play multiplayer with up to 16 people and text message with it's wireless capabilities (only used the text message utility which was still cool). It comes out Sunday and there's only about 3 that they're selling (9 of the 12 are pre-ordered). I think there'll be another wave of them coming out before Christmas, but not too many. For 150$ it definitely looks like a bargain. I don't know if it'll live up to the psp which is coming out early next year but it looks like it can be some good competition.

Live up to the PSP, do you even know what the PSP's battery life is???
2 and a half hours!!!
thats pathetic, whats even the point!!!
I'll make a judgement on which is best ONLY when i've played both, but at the moment from what i've heard they can do, i say DS will own
anywho, i made a thread about this like a week ago or summin lol
True, the psp has a few things going for it (4.5 gb space on disks, mp3, graphics) but in the end it's the quality of the games and I think nintendo has that. The Mario 64 for it will be sweet among other n64 games they'll bring back.

Kind of a contradiction if you ask me.

This is Gameboy version number what, 74? God, they need to start developing a new console that can be used on the Internet, or they are going to fall way behind Microsoft and Sony. The new age of gaming is online console gaming, and Nintendo doesn't have a contender. Too bad, I've stuck to Nintendo since SNES.
Yeah, but we're talking about gameboys here...they still own the portable gaming market anyways.

I really wanna get one. Looks awesome. I reckon it will beat the PSP. Seems to be a lot more hyped than most other Nintendo products.
Plus Nintendo had dominated the handheld market for years and years and seen off numerous competitors. Sony will put up a hard fight but I don't think it will be as sucessful.
After all, sony tends to aim towards 'casual gamers', when most people who want a handheld will really want it for the games.
well, nintendo had dominated the consoles up until sony made the playstation
Yeah, Nintendo really seems to have no idea when it comes to consoles these days.

Cmon guys, anyone who buys a DS over a PSP is an Idiot. PSP is going to be able to play movies, and has the graphics of a Ps2. DS cant play movies and has the graphics of a N64. dual touch screens are the only thing its got going for it.

Actually, the DS isn't in the next gameboy its a ocmpletely different system. Nintendo said it themselves, and also DS will have internet connectivity.

Do you really expect them to stand up and say 'Hey, we've decided to shut down Nintendo, leaving thousands of people jobless, just cos some guy thinks we're getting old.
Also how the HELL can you make that decision without having played both of them side by side and doing an actual comparison? Even then it would be unfair seeing as they're completely different.
/This thread makes me angry :upset:
Nintendo was my favorite system forever, untill they started falling behind. They come out with the odd cool game, like the new Mario Tennis looks alright, I might get it. But they just can't compare to all of the awesome games on PS2 and Xbox. If you could play games like Super Smash Bros. Melee online, that'd be wicked. Like I said, I think they need to develop a new console that can be played online, because it is the new way of gaming.

The answer to your question lyes in the truth that he has absolutely no idea who he is or where he is from. In this we come to the conclusion to act as if he doesn't exsist, and move on.

Personally I really am not at all bothered about online gaming. I would much rather have a couple of mates round to play TS than spend money on playing with faceless people over the internet.
People were outraged that FFXI was online and can't wait for FFXII just so they can play it offline again. This obviously shows that online gaming is not even half as important as you make out. Incase you hadn't noticed not everyone really wants to be able to play loads of people in an FPS for a few hours, when you can just as easily play a RPG on your own.
I also think that DS is going to knock the socks off of PSP, they have really concentrated on making it as fun as possible. Wheras PSP really are just trying to be as flash as possible. You can't even watch Lord of the Rings on it, good luck getting any fun out of FFVII.

Oh my jesus god... even if it has great graphics, no one is going to pay $400+ for a hand held system with such drawbacks as an extremely low battery life.

The battery life added to the price of the PSP is completely a waste. Sure, it looks secksier, and has better graphics, but come on... Nintendo has pwnd the handheld market for how many years now? The games, the online, the messaging... it's hard to tell without having played with a PSP, but I think the DS has it already.

the games on psp are actually looking pretty promising, also batterly life is 4-6 hours and the japanese price converts to $185 american dollars apparently
American = 150. This thing is definitely gonna be worth the buy after playing the metroid demo. Btw, how do you get online with the thing?

it uses wi-fi
Ah, so if you had a wireless router nearby you'd get online...the mario 64 should be awesome on that thing.

The main games I want on DS are Metroid Prime Hunters, Mario 64 DS, and MarioKart 64. That'll leave me happy for a while. :)
