So yesterday I bought the soundtrack from Star Wars - The Empire Strikes Back. Simply amazing. It is one of my favorite movies in terms of music; John Williams did a great, great job. The music is Powerful and Intense, yet oddly emotional.

In this thread we talk about the many works and accomplishements of the great john williams, and what he has brought to music.

John Williams is amazing, probably my second favorite film composer, behind Danny Elfman of course. And nobody can forget the theme from Jaws.

Yes, I like his CD of the Bach Lute suites, but imo he's too distant from his pieces... oh wait. Wrong John Williams.

Glad someone else made that mistake.

Yeah, he did it :)

Another film composer worth mentioning woud be Alain Silvestri. Great jobs with forrest gump, back to the future and other films.

Nah, I don't think he did that. If I remember, it was two guys who composed it, but I can't remember their names :upset:. They did it for Celine Dion, for her to sing it. Besides, it's really not Williams's style.

Not one of my favorite film composers. He's not awful, though. I would just rather listen to a Bernard Herrmann or Ennio Morricone score.

I must admit that Morricone is very, very good. Legendary in fact.

He did the first Batman theme too. As a lifelong Batman fan I love John Williams' main theme in the movie.

James Horner did the Titanic theme. Its a set work in my Music A-level.

As for John Williams, his stuff is pretty good. I have some of the Star Wars peices transcribed for guitar someplace. I think i should dig them out again.

Ouch. I found out mine today was Van Morrisson. But then, we're on different exam boards.

Consider this bumped because the man needs some more love.
Is anyone else as impressed by his classical Guitaring as I am? He's truely Phenomenal.

Danny Elfman scored Batman, and Batman Returns

Not John Williams

Jurassic Park theme was John Williams.

Titanic was the fantastic James Horner, he is an amazing composer, different to Williams but just as good, listen to Star Trek 2, Krull, Rocketeer, Braveheart for a good sample of his music.
