Kirk's Puppet

I think it's on Lie single's B-side.

It's an instrumental mainly with Kevin Moore playing. Very very melodic. I think this guy from the DT.net forums had it play during his wedding ceremony walk :thumb:

Well, I personally downloaded the album "When Demos and Singles Unite" off a private site >_>

Okay, I'll send the song in a day or two okay? I'm sorry but I'm currently on 56k. I'll get back to Melbourne in a day or two and I'll send it over to you guys or maybe upload it somewhere.

regarding guitar, i've only been at it for 2 years but i've learned so much on my own and really fast at that too. still got miles to go, and hoping to get some jazz chops into my fingers, but one thing at a time eh?

don't automatically assume that people who listen to dream theater have little or no musical sense or ability. i know that im making an assumption myself by assuming you thought that way...but the way your question was loaded and directed indicated so.

Cool cool that's fine. But sometimes I get the impression that alot of the people that worship band's such as Dream Theater lack an understanding and appreciation for music as an art form, and end up becoming loser musicians who will never have a hit single or play a gig infront of more than a thousand people or so.

- Another Day (Tokyo 1993)
- The Great Debate (Bucharest 2002)

yea i know what you mean...but i would be content myself w/ just never playing in a gig or in front of thousands of people. i play the guitar because i really do love too. playing a large gig (or even a small one) would be awesome, but it's not necessary. for me anyway.

Right now I'm learning Ballade in G minor by Chopin.

umm...started off w/ suzuki stuff up till book 6. some basic concertos by accolay, bach...and then the usual violin concerto repertoires.

i remember...mendelssohn, lalo symphonie espagnole, sibelius concerto (this is an amazing piece of work...), and the tchaikovsky violin concerto in D major.

tchaik violin concerto for the WIN!!! \m/ oh and i also learned sarasate's zigeunerweisen

never played much chopin when i took piano :\ i regret it...

I don't play an instrument, I'm a vocalist... the musical virtuosity of the band isn't what I focus on, my main love of the band stems from James' voice, and the emotion he has in that, I don't know much, if anyhting about music, so the band's technical ability is not really something I think about.

DREAM THEATER drummer Mike Portnoy has commented on the extra material that will be included with the band's forthcoming live CD/DVD package, "Score - 20th Anniversary World Tour: Live with the Octavarium Orchestra", due on August 29 through Rhino Records. The disc is expected to contain the following bonus features: Tour Documentary, Octavarium Cartoon, "Another Day" (live in Tokyo, 1993), "The Great Debate" (live in Bucharest, 2002), and "Honor Thy Father" (live in Chicago, 2005).

Lately I've REALLY been stuck into ToT. SoC and ItnoG are quickly becoming favourite DT songs. I've listened to this album alot, and I've had it for ages, but lately these two songs are just making me orgasm over and over. I absolutely LOVE the ending of both songs. Both are so emotional and I feel like I almost want to cry when I listen to them.

But you definitely have to listen to the whole of both songs to really feel the power of the endings. Maybe I'm going over-the-top with the crying thing... but damn these songs grow on you.

The inimitable New York-based band ended its anniversary concert with an intense, 30-minute version of "Octavarium"
Anyone else feeling a bit :naughty: reading this? :p

I really love ItNofG and SoC too. Plus As I Am has always been a fave of mine. Great riffs and awesome drumming. If I have a good tone, I'd record those.

Any of you guys seen Mike's Liquid Drum Theater video where he shows you how to play, and count out the Dance of Eternity??
Anyone??

Also there's a tonne of Mikey videos on youtube if him playing through loads, if not all of Train of Thought and other stuff too.

That drum solo he does where he goes down to the crown holding that single tom is pretty sick.

It was the same as it is on the album, except it was backed by a full orchestra(I was there :thumb: ).

There weren't any extra parts to the song if thats what you were thinkin. It was amazing though, but Metropolis Part 1 with full orchestra was one of the most incredible things EVER.:thumb:

Blabbermouth is filled with imbecile metalheads that cleary cannot enjoy the beautiful arrangements nor the complexity of DT's songs.

Is it just me or have you found that the DT dvd's tend to be very expensive most places?:(

Although i dont care anymore cus i have em all and got em quite cheap as well.
Ya, all the DT dvds in Australia cost $50AUS for some reason, luckily I got Budokan on special

Oh, I'm actually worried about one thing though. The DVD comes out 2 days after my birthday, which is why she is buying it, but due to certain circumstances, she won't be able to actually give me the DVD until about 4 or 5 days after it actually comes out.

I can't wait for it, so I was thinking.. should I tell her to get me the audio cd's instead, and have my parents buy the DVD so I can watch it straight away? Or are they going to come together?

comparing John Petrucci with other greats like Steve Vai, I've found that while Petrucci is more technical, Vai's guitar has alot of emotion. Just a tidbit I thought I'd share.

also, John could take a few lessons from Muhammed Suicmez, his sweeping is the best I've heard.

Nah, Petrucci's a far more well-rounded guitarist I think, in terms of theory knowledge and technique. Necrophagist's riffs seem to be rythmically more complex, but Petrucci's phrasing, note-choice and dynamics own him. And I'm sure that with a bit of practice Jp would be able to play anything by Necrophagist. But Muhammed is great.

yea i think petrucci's perfectly capable of tackling almost anything modern guitarrists throw at him.
almost. anything.

although i will admit...watching someone like vai is much more interesting than petrucci. just cuz vai is goofy.

Well Vai makes music solely as guitar music with some other crap in the background.

DT makes music that is only somewhat guitar directed but they do make better music as a whole instead of just a guitar solo album.

Vai is better at the guitar than Petrucci, but his music is bleh... boring.

Satriani is more emotional of a player than Vai and Petrucci combined. And none of them touch Gilmour or Santana in terms of emotional playing.

How can you quantify emotion? Personally, I think when everyone says, ____ is more emotional, they are really just saying, _____ affects me more and I like them more. I would say almost any musician is trying to express all emotions and ideas through playing, and there's no way to tell who is 'more' of something that is so subjective. imo.

That's the bootleg of the gig where they recorded the live covers for ACOS. SDV is the demo version with KM on vocals, which is also included on the Stranger than Fiction bootleg. I want to hear this too though, I always wondered if James' vocals were overdubbed or not, since he doesn't miss a single note on the album.
