I've already got bits from SOC, YTSE Jam and Erotomania. I never thought of ITNOG. Good choices.

Thanks. Glad I could help :thumb:

strange deja vu is my least fave off of SFAM :\ and it's what they're playing mostly this last tour besides fatal tragedy. but they've already played fatal tragedy in my town on the last time through.

i JUST got into ACOS. what's the part of the song around 13:00?

I'll try and get it recorded and if I do, of course I'll post it here. Trouble is I've got nothing to record with and my drummer plays far too loud for an 8 track.

I agree with that, it just didn't fit with Dream Theater really, but then towards the middle of the song, the instrumental parts are really great. The kinda funk bit (hard to describe..) with short staccato notes is awesome, along with kevin moore's best lead for DT.

It's a hard album to choose from because the songs are all great but the part in surrounded 'i know its easier..' always kills it for me.

Lord Abortion

That part in surrounded is absolutely beautiful, James is wonderful there.

According to the 5YIAL commentary, Mike was listening to alot of early rap aroud that time, that's where the influence on Take the time came from.

Yeah he is good, I am one of the rarer fans who actually like James LaBrie instead of think he ruins Dream Theater so i don't disagree, but it just seems cheesy to me, maybe the lyrics i dont know. Just like that part in Learning To Live where before it, the lyrics are great, then it comes to 'the 90's bring new questions..' and it just seems so cheesy to me.

Imagine yourself at a Dream Theater concert. They just got through playing the encore of PMU or Metropolis or whatever they play for encore. The lights dim and go to black and the stage is shrouded in darkness. Everyone accepts with resignation that this magical experience is over and some start filtering out while some stay around and chat excitedly about how awesome the concert was.
Suddenly, stray yet melodic piano chords and keys start playing. This keeps up for about 30 seconds while everyone looks around in wonder and stares at the stage wondering what is going on.
Then, the opening piano riff from Space-Dye Vest starts playing as a single spotlight illuminates Kevin Moore on a keyboard. The Dream Theater vets that know the significance of this go ****ing nuts. Slowly, individual spotlights shine through the darkness as each members comes in: Portnoy on drums, then LaBrie singing, and sporadically Petrucci and Myung in their random parts of the song.

These are the things I think about while in the shower. Sigh....

Heres a little DT story that was pretty funny...

Over the summer of 2005, when DT was on Gigantour. It was their Cleveland show, at Tower City Music hall. As most of you probably know that went to Gigantour, we had to sit through a few terrible bands, like that Dillinger Escape Plan and Bobaflex? Whoever they were, Symphony X, Fear Factory, Nevermore... everything was good for them, and then the long awaited Dream Theater came on.

James hasn't even began to sing yet, he's just screaming, you know.. trying to get the crowd pumped. And then he rips this huge hole in the *** of his pants. Turns around and bends over to show the crow his ***. Everyone cheered of course, so they went on and played the song.. him showing his *** every now and again... I really should have gotten out my camera phone. I'm sorry that I didn't now :(

That was just a funny story... how many of you have seen James' ***? haha

Sigh....
Damn! I don't keep track of this thread, so I just clicked it, read that, and thought it was a recent gig or something!

Hmm, I can see why you think that but I love it. The whole song is so emotional. The way James sings it is perfect. The only way that they could have made it better would be by leaving the guitar, drums and bass out of it.

I do sometimes like it when in the right mood. But still i wouldnt really want them to play it live if i went.

I play drums and have Pornoy idolised at the moment. I can play most of the songs from SfaM.

Favourite album would be SfAM, but in my opinion after that everything's just gone downhill. SdoIT wasn't too bad, ToT was a pretty good listen but didn't seem typical DT style, and Octavarium just sucked goat testicles. Honestly, what the hell happened?

I love everything in Sacrificed Sons until it gets to the instrumental section. I don't get it. Yeah. I'm not saying any of their jams aren't cool. There is that one really special guitar line in "Octavarium" that is so beautiful sounding. You know the one. It starts out as acoustic by itself and then the keyboards start doing it. It's great. But then the part right after that is absolute ****. So, I don't know, their soloing is a mixed bag for me. Doesn't Petrucci do backing live? I thought I saw him do some...he was decent enough.

I know he didbacking vocals on the Number of the Beast cover, but Im not sure about their material. I never really payed attention to that.

He did backing for The Silent Man on Live Scenes From New York. I know he and Mike do backing on a bunch of other songs like Pull Me Under (in the studio it was just LaBrie overdubbed, I think, but live they do it) and The Glass Prison.

I still never got that :upset:

I always new Portnoy was the main guy for backing vocals, but I never thought John did any. I guess I was pretty wrong.
