Opinions, opinions...
I couldn't have Octovarium AND ACOS in the set, that would be ludicrous
And there is no liklihood of there ever being a live version of space dye vest in there.
I was also being representative of varied albums...
Riddler- given they are my two favourite DT albums. GET THEM BOTH!!
right they're opinions.
but this is a "fantasy setlist" if you will eh? so space-dye vest is perfectly reasonable in a hypothetical setlist. and you can't say ever...:upset: that's just disheartening. maybe KM will have a change of heart one day.

Rudess's solo spot on the Budokan DVD. And I agree 100%. For such a talented keyboardist, he can sure put together a shitty solo sometimes. His tone in the first part alone makes me cringe every time I hear it. And the fact that he's just wanking around with no structure or progression doesn't help either.
The second half of the solo, I absolutely love. It's a measure of how insanely good that part is that it can make up completely for the first part in my mind.

when i saw them in october, the first set opened with the root of all evil, as did all the gigs i think, and then never enough, but the rest of that set was just working through the albums up to SFAM. i can't remember exactly what they played in the 2nd set, but i think they played panic attack, sacrificed sons and octavarium from the new album. those 3 were alternated with different songs at other gigs, and sometimes replaced with non-8vm songs like learning to live.
i would have preferred some other tracks too, especially instead of sacrificed sons which isn't the best live song, at least not until JP's solo. i was hoping for learning to live instead but they'd already played that at the previous show in london.

I don't think it affects the music at all... I mean SFAM is about reincarnation, a belief that none of the band member's religions hold.
That they made an album about it shows that the religion and music are seperate.

We'll its my first metal concert, but I have been knocked unconscious at a mosh at a local show. I wasnt even in the pit. I figured DT wouldnt have one, but I dont want to be in a coma for a few hours again.

Whoa, what happened? You must have taken a pretty big hit.
The local band was a thrash band so there was a large pit. I was standing there with my friend and as I turned to ask him what he thought of the band, I got struck from behind. From what I was told, a second pit was formed and we were in the dead center of it. Someone must have thought I was willingly in there and went for me.
I was only in it for about an hour and I got 48 stiches. I am actually very lucky it wasn't worse. I have nothing against moshing as long as there is a defined pit. I may go in from time to time, but I would much rather listen to the band then get a broken bone. I can go do some stupid stunt in the backyard if I want to get hurt. I dont need to buy expensive tickets to do so.

I like Lie, but The Mirror is better. I think the Mirror has more feeling to it.Mirror is great, but personally it got really old quick. It doesnt have the variety of the other DT songs, it basically sounds the same the whole way through.
And btw, i dont dislike Mapex. I just prefere Tama (since i own one).:thumb:

I'm so glad I didn't stay a Metallica fanboy. I still know loads about the band but I realised they're not the best band about by far and that DT are an example of a better band.

off topic...
right at the end of Scenes from a Memory...when u hear the TV on...it is Nicholas right?
sorry just needed to know.
and also...is it just me, or in the 8th minutes of home, is there not some chick moaning in the background?
can someone explain?
Happy
02-06-2006, 01:50 AM
The end with the TV in the background is Nicholas yes.
The chick moaning in Home is Victoria because she is having an affair with that guy's (i can't remember the name it's either The Miracle or The Sleeper) brother.

When she asked that, you should have come up with a witty insult to mainstream (not all mainstream music, just the bad stuff) music.

A girl that I like and may ask out likes Eminem and Fall Out Boy. Thats the only downside though. She seems to like Guns N Roses, so there may be some hope after all. Maybe I can change her mind and make ther the total package.

There's nothing wrong with liking Eminem--he's one of the most talented rappers in the game right now. Fall Out Boy on the other hand.....

problem is, she only likes the cheesy ballads by dream theater like hollow years. and she thinks his voice on I&W is annoying and too high. you know how it is...they hear the opening acoustic guitar/piano intro "YAY THIS SONG IS PRETTY I LOVE IT!"
of course, like in the case of misunderstood... :thumb:
i prefer singers like james, dickinson much more than your SoCo, fall out boy, mae girly singers. they can't even vibrate T_T

yeah theres nothing wrong with reading the bible. but translating it into todays terms is actually pretty funny. Like i was listening to my pastor (yes i go to church and yes i do learn something from it), he would read the passage and look at everybody while everyone was puzzled by not knowing what he was saying then he would say, "Its a good thing dont worry". then everybodys faces would be like phew, good.

^ haha your pastor = cool.
my church is freaking conservative and all strict about things. i was late to church once by 5 minutes cuz i stoped at wendy's for lunch and i got chewed out by the choir leader and the pastor.
dont let yourself be offended by being called "bible thumper."
in this day and age, it's cool to read the bible for fun. you're smarter that way.
isn't "in this day and age" a band?

Tell her "so what." I read the Bible sometimes also. Tell her it makes you happy (Im guessing it does) and she should respect that. If she really loves you, she would accept you for who you are. Not how cool or in style you are.

OH yeah ,dont worry lol she loves that I read the Bible lol, she says it makes me "Unique" but yeah, latly we havnt talked bery much and tis dieing between us lol. And ya. I too don't beleive in organized releigion, I find that jsut about all religions now a days are jsut hypocrites claiming they are correect and other religions arnt, whihc is a sin, so im a conservative in religion, and I dont paln on becoming a religion, I have my own beliefs and theories that no releigion can accept. so yeah , I like it that way lol.

whats cool about this show is that its their 20th aniversary. they are going to play such an incredible variety of music, its goign to be amazing. i respect these guys because they've managed try to appeal to many different genres thruout their career. you would never guess that "the answer lies within" and "awake" is the same band. horray for musicla diversity! Would anyone be interested in buying two tickets to Dream Theater in San Fran March 11th, 2006 ? These are general admission tickets (floor), which are now gone at ticketmaster outlets.
I live in the Los Angeles area and it is just too far for me to attend. I was too excited when I bought them and I am already going to the Hollywood show on March 10th.

It is for me.
So turns out the version of As I Am I have been listening to for the past year+ isn't the real version (Although seriously, the lyrics are "As I Am!"), I got Live at Budoken, and the real version of As I Am (Obviously...), I can see what you guys mean about LaBrie trying to rap now, very bad effort on his side.
But still, this version of As I Am I have is pretty good, I definately thought it was Dream Theater (And still probably do!), so if anyone knows who does it, that could be cool....
My version is 3:34, starts off with some cool ambience, then breaks into crunching riff, with a sort of 'solo' or interlude coming off through guitar, then breaks into another 'solo' before the singer starts singing.
There's lots of cool guitar effects during the verse.... The singer tbh sounds a bit lower then LaBrie in parts (I always thought it was Portnoy :/)
There's a bass solo before the end (I always thought Myung :()
I actually prefer the guitar in this song to what I have heard from the Budoken As I Am.
