I love In The Name Of God. BTW my band is learning As I Am for our first song that we can play together and maybe one day a cover song (if we do it good). But i havent learned the drum solo yet(if i ever do) and our guitarist hasnt learnt the solo(if he ever does). i thought it was relevant.
Looks like you both have some work to do.

Them solos are a bitch though. They all just seem to be Petrucci and Portnoy trying to go as fast as they can.

Yeah, theres a lot of songs like that, The Dance of Eternity is a good example (the bit at the start that has the same beat as the middle of Metropolis). And the verses of These Walls are really cool.

Apparently the album they covered was.... Deep Purple - Made in Japan (the live album):
Highway Star
Child In Time
Smoke On The Water
The Mule
Strange kind Of Woman
Lazy
Space Truckin'
Very cool if you ask me, I can't wait to hear it, especially hearing LaBrie sing Child in Time.
Very nice.
It would have been ludicrous to cover Pantera...I mean, pantera are just a bunce of no talent rednecks...and DT are Gods amongst men.

Im really wanting to do a Dream Theater cover to put on my free EP which im making of some cover songs using backing tracks and on the Idol Underground site which is a pretty cool thing with contests and an online radio (its $25 per song to post though). No one in my band is really quite at the level of playing DT stuff yet so I was hoping maybe some of you could help me out. I'm looking at covering either These Walls, I walk beside you, Through Her Eyes, Strange Deja Vu, or Voices. Can any of you record any or all of the parts to these songs for me to use? I would try some of these for myself but my playings definently not good enough so I was hoping some of you could help out.

I'd really like to do that one but the bass I believe was a 6 string part and I wouldn't know how to do it if you even can on a 4 string plus im not really good enough at anything to be willing to record it; especially drums.
I can sing a lot of Dream Theater stuff fine. Labrie is one of my favorites. If you want an example of my voice, go to ajenkz.dmusic.com Its not perfect but it gives a good idea of how I sound, especially under the circumstances (recorded entirely in less than an hour on a day with pretty much no sleep and a very tired voice from school.)
I might end up doing Through Her Eyes but I need to figure out how to get the drums. Could anyone help with anything on that song?

There are programs available that let you program drums, or the easiest option would be to import them in from a Guitar Pro tab (if you have Guitar Pro). You're probably better of asking in one of the instrument forums for more info on this.
You only need a 4 string bass for the song as well.

Despite rumors to the contrary, DREAM THEATER will NOT be joined by any of the group's former members during the final show of their 20th Anniversary Tour 2005/2006, which is scheduled to take place Saturday, April 1 at the Radio City Music Hall in New York City.
Commented DREAM THEATER drummer Mike Portnoy: "[Former DREAM THEATER keyboardist] Kevin Moore has (once again) passed on my invitation to join us at Radio City Music Hall.... so just to not get people's hopes up with their predictions, I can officially confirm there will NOT be any ex-DREAM THEATER members joining us on stage that evening... Mike asked KM to appear at the April 1st show apparently, and he once again refused. I don't know why he keeps on refusing, he might not want to be known just as 'the ex-DT keyboardist', but most of the people in that room would be fans of his and of his music regardless of what he's doing now.

On the subject of his LSFNY vocals, does anyone else absolutely love Beyond This Life? He doesn't do it perfectly, his voice cracks a bit in one of the verses, but I like it so much better than on Budokan where he stays at a comfortable level and doesn't put as much power into it.

I guess i said it because its my fav song. I just like the feel of the guitar, keyboards and his singing. Its just so atmospheric.
Get yourself another Dream Theater album QUICKLY!!! If "As I Am" if is your favourite, then you better keep an ambulance on speed dial.

Ollie. It must be cool having a girlfriend that has good musical taste. Most of mine like My Chemical Romance, Papa Roach, Blink-182 and Dashboard Confessional. I try to convert them to real music fans, but it never works.

Haha, you should see the goons at my school. About 5 or 6 of them have the exact same Bullet for my Valentine jacket. "The Bullets" is the name we've given to their little crew. They were all walking together once when they were all wearing the same jacket and they looked a right ol' load of losers.
Sad? No, I'm cool.

I do beleive 5 years in A Livetime and images and words DVD includes once in a livetime, does it not??
Any chance that the DT 20th anniversary show might include Kevin Moore?
I'm definitely going to make it to that if he is. By themselves, DT don't interest me too much. I blame Petrucci's guitar tone and Rudess/Sherinian.

I couldn't have Octovarium AND ACOS in the set, that would be ludicrous
And there is no liklihood of there ever being a live version of space dye vest in there.

They'll never play Space Dye Vest, which is a shame since it's a great track. Kevin turned down Portnoy's proposal to play at the 20th aniversary show so my friend said.
