Take it to the Rage thread, it could use some new posters. Theres also information about Zacks performance on October 7th, and some info about his solo album. And no, he's not lazy, he has his reasons for taking so long.

Not bad for a 40 year old.
Bah, Pete Townsend can, and he's like sixty. But then again, trying to have better stage presence than Pete Townsend is like trying to be more powerful than god, except harder.

He said on the Bodokan DVD that if he had no chance at being 'cool' because he holds his guitar so high. I don't have a problem with it, it's the music produced that counts.
I think he was half joking. He doesn't care.
Well, anyway, anyone know where i can get a DT shirt in Melbourne, Australia?
Melbourne is the best place to get shirts!
I'm not sure the name of the shop, or even the street for certain, but I believe it's somewhere on Swanston, you can't miss it, the front of the shop is all decked out in bongs etc. Your usual metalhead place :thumb:

6. Kevin Moore:
Hated his bandmates.
Was the funny guy in the band.
Quit DT to play classical piano.
Is a technically superior player to Rudess and Sherinian.
7. John Petrucci:
Is not a founding band member.
Slings his guitar low just to look cool.
Built a plexiglass shield around his stage amps.
Made a guest appearance on the OSI album.
8. James LaBrie:
Shares a hometown with his bandmates.
Should start wearing a beard again.
Studies opera.
Hasn't released a solo album since Mullmuzzler.
9. John Myung:
Is loud and boisterous.
Was high-school buddies with Portnoy.
Cut his hair off after SFAM.
Is known to tackle bandmates on stage.
10. Mike Portnoy:
Loves his alcohol.
Is known to 'llama' several times in a show.
Thinks Neal Peart of Rush is a great guy.
Eats *** and balls.
11. Jordan Rudess:
Graduated from Berklee.
Has a paper fish on the side of his stage keyboard.
Sings backing vocals.
Chose to join DT instead of the Dixie Dregs.
12. Charlie Dominici:
Wrote for the 'Images and Words' album, even though he didn't sing on it.
Was the original vocalist back before DT was called DT.
Reunited with the band for a commemorative show in 2004.
Is roughly the same age as his former bandmates.
13. Derek Sherinian:
Cut off all ties with DT members after being fired.
Is a big Elton John fan.
Had no creative input for "A Change of Seasons," despite playing on the recording.
Was DT's top choice for a keyboardist after Kevin Moore quit.
What kind of answers are these? This test is crap.
Edit: In the end I got 82% and a salute by Mike Portnoy :)

Well that gig may be different than usual as there's no support band. Usually unless you want to get right to the front (against the barriers) you're fine getting there for when the doors open. But I'm guessing for DT everyone will get there on time, so about 30 mins early to que up maybe? I take it you're on about the Wolverhampton gig right?

For Symphony X, we went up straight as soon as the act before them was done, and we still got pushed back to like the second row.

When Dream and Day Unite, its back when they had a different vocalist before Labrie...not a very good album but its got its moments
I think it's a good album, ruined by poor production and a annoying vocalist.
I rate Train of Thought and Octavarium as among their worst. So that little smiley was a little unneccesary, wouldn't you say?
Fine then, maybe a  would have been more appropriate.

yep, its all opinion :thumb:
ToT's only decent songs are Vacant, and This Dying Soul. Honor thy Father is all right also. The record is remarkably soulless, lacking in harmonic sophistication or tone, and certainly cannot be remotely defined as a progressive album, however.
This Dying Soul is, even then, a little iffy, being a sequel to "The Glass Prison," which was already the best heavy song they ever did. Stealing riffs, lyrics, and subject matter from it doesn't make "This Dying Soul" great though.

I personally prefer TDS to TGP (but both are awesome, and much better than The Root of All Evil).
I think ToT is excellent, and it's the album that first got me into DT.
In The Name Of God is one of DT's most under rated songs. The live version at the Budokan is superb.
What's so great about "In the Name of God?" I thought it had one of the most terrible vocal melodies in DT history.
I am open to other perspectives, however, that's just my opinion.

I agree, its such an awsome album. ITNOG is one of my favourite DT songs and it is one of the best performances by DT on Budokan I've seen. The keyboard and guitar solo in ITNOG are just intense.

I really like ToT, and don't care if it's not "progressive". The songs are brilliant.

No he doesn't tap it, I've seen live videos of it (although a lot of tabs have it as tapping.) I find it quite tricky to play it the way he does though.

It's because MP wanted FII to be a double album, they had enough material and many of the songs that made it were originally longer and quite different. But the label insisted they cut it down to 1 disc, and I think they wanted DT to make a more radio-friendly album. If you read interviews MP now seems very dissappionted in how the album turned out, and says if he'd had his way it would have been very different.

Was he being sarcastic? I could (just about) understand him saying it immediately after the album release, but he can't seriously believe that, surely. When actual members of the band (particularly Portnoy) come out and say that it wasn't the album he wanted to make, I can't believe they'd disagree that much.
He was saying it just after they'd recorded the album. But then again I guess he's got to say that really, the record label wouldn't be too happy with him saying, "This is the worst album we'll ever make" right before it's released.
I'm watching 5 Years in a Livetime right now too.

Well it was during the recording process, and Derek Sherinian did say at one point during the studio footage that they were "making history". I know FII was supposed to be a much different album than what it turned out to be, so possibly Petrucci thought it was their best album before Kevin Shirley got his hands on it. Regardless, FII does have some fantastic songs on it.

3.) When Dreams and Threads Unite
4.) MXtropolis Part II: Scenes of a Thread (4)
5.) A Change of Underwear (lol)
Post any that I forgot and edit them in, if you want them as thread titles.
EDIT: For a new page. Vote count is next to the title. This post will be edited as this goes. #4 has about four additional potential votes, but they need to vote again.
I like 4

Thread Of Thought
I would have voted Thread From A Memory but it doesn't look like it's got a chance. Unless we compromise and say MXtropolis Part II: Thread From A Memory?

I believe I counted your vote for thread of thought, also, since you and scenestheater posted right before I made the vote official.
That compromise is ok too, but I think it makes more English sense the way I had it. But maybe that's just me being defensive. :p

I really don't like the Scenes from a Thread part, the MXtropolis part is cool though.
How did something like Thread from a Memory get up there and not Thread of Eternity?

I like Thread of Eternity probably the most, but that wasn't counted like Mathias said... I'd vote MXtropolis Part II: Scenes of a Thread, Thread of Thought sounds kind of stupid..

I think When Dream and Thread unite, without the S's would be better. I think is flows better without the S's.
Heh, I like Thread of Eternity the most...
But otherwise the When Dream and Thread Unite is the best imo.

When Dreams and Thread Unite shouldn't have an 's' after 'Dream'. It should be "When Dream and Thread Unite".
I vote for Thread of Thought.
Edit: Thread of Eternity would be ace.
