Who will they sign? Trade for?

I believe that they will make Varitek a priority, as well as Martinez. Kapler will probably return. Lowe, I am sad to say, appears to be gone. I think Cabrera will dissapear as well, due to Hanley Ramirez, and Pokey Reese, Mendoza, as well. Mirabelli will most likely leave due to his limited playing time.

Do we keep Bellhorn at second base? Sign Radke or Pavano to replace Lowe? Trade Nixon and sign Glaus?

I think the options are huge right now, and the organization has been close lipped. All I can predict right now is a definite signing for Varitek, and a 50% chance of Pedro signing a two year deal.

i'm not a huge fan of the Sox and don't know much about what's going on with their organization (go jays go!) but seeing as there are no other threads i think this is a good place to offer congratulations on the big win

it's good to see new teams winning :)

I believe Pedro will sign; he said that his heart is in Boston, and if they really wanted to get him they could.

I also believe that Varitek will stay.

If Lowe does go, Radke would be a huge addition to the staff. He's one of the better pitchers in the AL, and would make that pitching staff even better. Imagine that staff: Schilling, Martinez, Radke, Wakefield, Arroyo (has his days..). They'd be unstoppable.

Glaus would also help them a bit, but I think they'd benefit more with a speedy player. I also believe they should try to replace Bellhorn. He was inconsistant, although he had his sparks of brilliance.

Good time to be a Sox fan, eh Jeremy? ;)

I don't think Pedro will sign at all, the Yankees have been pretty keen on him for a starter (which was probably why they lost the ALCS.)

Varitek will almost certainly stay, especially with all the glory he got here.

Lowe actually sounds like he might stay, in my opinion. Theres definitely been no word on him looking for other offers, although he's probably expecting a high end Boston offer.

Kapler will probably stay, as he has really no where else to go.

I can't see Bellhorn signing a multi-year contract, even though he stepped it up in the series.

Pedro has already said that he won't sign with the Yankees. A quote given by him is that "I promise I won't play for the Yankees"

Lowe has not been given an offer by Boston

If Pedro plays for anyone else, it will be the Angels

I think Pedro will stay along wiht Lowe and Veritek but Bellhorn is gone as well as Cabrara

Who do you think the Yanks will sign?

I believe Pavano will sign with the Yanks.

They need pitching, and he's a solid pitcher.

I think Johnson might sign with them or maybe even Carlos Beltran

Let's hope not..

They might as well be the AL All-Star team.

Anyways.. back to the Sox. I think the Sox need a better #5 starter. Arroyo doesn't cut it. He's great at times, but he'd be a much better reliever.

Yeah, Arroyo comes out sometimes with great stuff but also comes out and gives tons of runs. He's inconsistant we need another good pitcher.

Then again, Lowe didn't do to well in the regular season either but really did great in the Playoffs

Lowe is gradually getting worse though. They do need to get another pitcher, unfortunately.

When was that? Early, early in (this?) season he was quoted (controversially) to say that he would sign with them if they offered him more money.

I just said Lowe is probably expecting a high end offer from the Sox. They haven't had anything official yet

Arroyo lives 2 blocks away from me, on the same street, and I see him walking his dog a lot. /random

Lowe got much, much better in the second half of the year as the defense improved.

The Sox will re-sign Varitek and hopefully re-sign Cabrera. I want them to keep Pedro and Lowe but something tells me some stupid team like Baltimore or Anaheim is going to grossly overpay for them.

it would be sick if they got nomar back and traded cabrera and bellhorn for a good 3b or 2b i think

but i dont get why pedro would test the FA market if he plans to return
they could possibly repeat

They won't get Nomar, and don't want to. Pavano has said he would prefer not to go to the Yankees.

Speaking of the Red Sox, what's up with all these curses being broken recently? :p First Boston, then the Redskins.

Oakland might be willing to trade Barry Zito for a big bat... that would be a a key acquisition..

Oakland should stick with their rotation in my opinion. They're all great friends, splitting them up would be bad.

They have a talented team, the team just didn't produce up to expectations last year. If they make a big sign in the post season they should have a great team next year.

yea, I think the A's have a solid starting rotation but they were talking about Rich Harden emerging as a possible future Ace and since Dye, mclemore, maybe byrnes, maybe durazo, and maybe hatteberg might be leaving town, a big bat might be needed.

I heard they might send him to Baltimore. For who I don't remember, but that's what I heard, and the O's desperately need pitching.

Hudson and Mulder are free agents after next year, and Zito has been in free-fall since the 2003 All Star Break. Oakland needs to shake up their team desperately.

I think Pavano said he would prefer to play in Boston.
I'd love to have Orlando Cabrera back, I really hope they resign him (Looks unlikely though...). If they don't resign him and try to have Pokey Reese and Mark Bellhorn playing, they better drop one of them. Pokey Reese: Injury waiting to happen. Mark Bellhorn: Strike 3! I'm betting their trading deadline would end up being for a second basemen or shortstop if they tried to take that route... so hopefully they can avoid that. Keep Cabrera! Sign Pavano, drop Lowe. Varitek's back no doubt. Pedro... I just don't know. Anything is okay if he doesn't sign with the Yankees.

Are David Wells and Jose Lima free agents? I ask because Eric Neel brought them up about the MLB off-season in a recent column. They're both solid pitchers who the Sox could get for cheap, and they would both definately fit into the Sox' clubhouse.

Pedro- gone. He's not half of what he was when we first signed him. He's a great guy, and it would be weird to see him in anything but a Red Sox uniform, but he just doesn't have what he used to have anymore.

Lowe- gone. He's too random. One day he's a beast, the next he's benched by the 3rd inning. He did nothing the entire season. Yeah, he stepped it up big in the post-season, but the Sox can do better.

Bellhorne- I'd like to see him gone, but I'm guessing he'll stay. The Sox have much more faith in him than the fans do.

Cabrera- Gone, unfortunatly. He has huge potential, and will be a big player in a few years.

Varitek- He'll be the first one resigned.

Nixon- Needs to go. He sucks. Everytime he gets up to bat he tries to hit a homerun.. he just isn't a homerun hitter. He screws up in the field all the time on basic plays. The Sox can do MUCH better.

Arroyo- Resigned. I think this guy is great. If they don't keep him as a starter, he'll definatly be around as a closer.

We don't need Arroyo as a closer. Keith Foulke fills that role pretty **** well, I'd say.

And back off of Trot Nixon. He's had OBP of .377 and .396 over the past two seasons. For a "home run hitter" he gets on base a lot.

I think the Sox will end up keeping Pedro, though it's too early to tell...
