Personally I love the original. GotY is great too but you just cant beat the original.
I cant wait until TES 4. But that will be on an XBOX 2 and wont come out for another couple years....

I think it will come out for PC first because it might take a while for new x box or the "y box" (is that right?) to come out... Overall its gonna rock no matter what if its on console or PC
I seriously doubt that a PC could handle it (maybe in a couple years, who knows?).
But I agree.

Morrowind is, in my opinion, the only game worth playing. I love it.
Yeah.
It's either hit or miss for most.

i love Morrowind.
my only complaint though is the missions. some of them include:
walking all the way across the continent to an unmarked place on your map, simply to deliver a letter.
going to one city to tell somebody something, then going back only to find that your guildmaster wants you to investigate further and go BACK to that city, talk to the guy again, then have them give you an item that you need to deliver to a whole NEW town, so you go there, deliver it, return to the 2nd town, the guy tells you job well done, so you go back to your guild, and FINALLY the mission is done.
also, before the Bloodmoon expansion, the envirements were dull and terrible. brown and gray hills, light brown paths, with a few ugly brown-green patches of grass.

We're probably not going to get it until 2006, that's my best bet.
I will direct you here though: http://www.elderscrolls.com/forums/index.php?showforum=4

So what's everyone's favorite guild to join in Morrowind?
I personally like the Assassin's Guild, because I always try to make characters that specialize in stealth and stuff. Good times.
Man, this thread really makes me wanna play Morrowind.

Isn't GotY the original with the expansions? Are you trying to say that less content makes for a better game?

I was a theif for the most part. Currently Im getting back into mages. For some reason Ive never been able to get into fighters.
With my old char I was so freaking amazing. I was the leader of every guild that the game would let me join, over 2 million coins, amazing stats, and I enchanted everything I had with jump So I could clear all of Vivec city with one jump. Then coupled with a 100 magnitude jump spell....

Yes the original is in GotY.
I just mean that although the expansions (specifically Bloodmoon) are great, they dont come close to the experience of playing the original Morrowind for the first time.

Great game. I love the story and the depth of the world you play in, with its political tensions, cultural aspects, ruins of lost civilizations and folklore.
What i hate about it is that it has serious bugs on the xbox version.
I got near the end with a Bosmer character, lvl 57, unbelievable stats fortified by alchemy, completed fighters, mages, morag tong, temple, imperial legion, imperial cult, House Telvanni as well as most of House Hlaalu too (even though that shouldn't be possible, another bug), a fair deal of the Twin Lamps missions, various Daedric quests and a whole lot of looting.
Then i figured i'd complete the main quest but by that time, the save game was up to 300 blocks and the xbox couldn't handle it anymore. I can't play 5 minutes with that character or it freezes. Which wouldn't even be that bad if loading didn't take a ****ing month.
A few issues besides the xbox bugs:
It's too easy once you reach lvl 25 - 30.
NPC AI is bad.
Animations are too lame for words.
I hate how it's not possible to get rid of useless loot. For example, you're in a tomb with dozens of skeleton warriors so you end up with tons of iron shields and silver swords. That's too heavy so you have to drop it. But when you do, the item STAYS there, FOREVER. That makes your save game huge, which is what eventually makes the game unplayable.
Also, it relied too much on combat and not enough on magic even if you did focus on magic. I'm glad to hear the Bethesda team is aware of that and working to fix it.
I'd like to hear more music too... Morrowind has a very good score but there's not enough of it. There's the main theme, the battle theme and... well that's about it.
Oblivion looks and sounds very promising though. I hope the improvements in AI they've been talking about are as good as they say.

of course a pc can handle it. have you seen doom 3, or half-life 2? even far cry and painkiller have great graphics. and the graphics for guild wars look amazing. a pc can handle more than a console.

you don't have to take their shields, you know.
also, if you drop an item underwater, it disappears.

Exactly.
Plus I dont even waste my time with skeletons or anything for that matter*. I just run around and complete the quest. Plus you can just get potions of strength, teleport scrolls/spells, or just sell to merchants.
(-*except for that freakish creature with a guy's leg for a weapon on Bloodmoon)

My brother bought The Elder Scrolls III like a year ago, and I played it for 30 minutes, couldn't get the hang of it, and haven't played it since. Since most people in this thread seem to like it alot, I think I might try it again after I beat KOTOR 2.

The ability to do that is just a testament to the amazing freedom you have in the game. One of the many reasons I want to play this game (my computer is 4 years old therefore cant play the game)

I have been playing Morrowind for over 2 years and I'm still not tired of it. I've played through the main quest a few times, plus the 2 expansion main quests. I've completed hundreds of quests. I've found just about every special weapon/armor in the game. Me=Morrowind Google.

I wish i could play it. I saw it in my local EB today for AUS$10. But it had the instructions on the disc, is it worth paying more for a proper instruction book to be included?
LegionsofMarduk
01-18-2005, 06:26 AM
If it's got the instructions on the disc you could always just print them. The regular version also includes a map so be sure you get that. The game is old enough now that you can probably get the regular version with expansion packs for not a whole lot more money.

Ok but if I install the Expansions before playing the original as well does that change the main game at all? Because I want to play it in an unchanged state.
See you auntie!
01-19-2005, 06:22 AM
It doesn't change the main game. The expansions just add a town called Mournhold and an island called Solstheim with their own main quests, and you can visit them whenever you want, and return to Vvardenfell whenever you want.
LegionsofMarduk
01-19-2005, 06:25 AM
No. It doesn't effect the main quest at all. Once you install the expansion packs, the Bloodmoon island (Solstheim sp?) will show up on your map. The first time you talk to someone about "Latest rumors" they will mention something about help needed at Fort Frostmoth. There are a couple of people on the main island of Morrowind that will be from the expansions, but they don't effect the main quest at all. I can't remember exactly when the Tribunal expansion kicks in, but at some point after installing it (I think the timing depends on you characters level) you'll be attacked while you're sleeping and your journal will update saying you should talk to a gaurd. You don't have to go and do the expansion packs right after you install them. I would hold of on doing them until you're a higher level character. Especially Tribunal.

I've got the XBox version, is the PC version alot better, or are they pretty much the same?
thedeadwalk!
01-19-2005, 09:26 AM
the only thing different really is that the pc version has a construction set, so you can basically change the maps in morrowind and put in some uber-loot. it may look a little sharper on the pc as well, i'm not sure though.

Thanks, I guess i'm gonna have to try this game again now.

it took me a while to get into at first too. don't walk to places you don't have to, otherwise you'll be wasting a lot of time and getting pissed at the stupid worms and things that attack.

I still dont have the game but I was curious to jus how big the island actually is. Does anyone have exact figures?

01-23-2005, 08:42 AM
It's big. I'd say that the PC version is better because you can have plugins. Check out this site: http://www.tamriel-rebuilt.org/index.php?p=main
the people that like the other MOrrowind games will like it beuacse it's a bunch of people rebuilding the entire land of Tamriel with all the cities and a bunch of new quests and places.
