Favourite FF game has to be FF6.. Never completed it, only got to the half way point lol, could never get past the island.

Other than that FF5 was amazing, again never completed it :upset:

7 was good

8 was well not bad from where i got to but others say it was crappy

9 seems cool need to play more though

10 and x-2 were brilliant games! nice grphics pretty good story, and if you can put up witht he powerpuff moments in X-2 the job system was nicly restored/revamped

FF1 still kicks arse though

Infact FF > almost all other RPG games :D (i say almost becasue i still love Chrono Trigger and Chrono Cross!)

Final fantasy: the spirits within, sucked... and was overhyped.
and like another poster said, it had nothing to do with anything from any Final fantasy games.

there was another Movie... Final fantasy: Advent Children
the story was based a few years after the aftermath of what happened at Final Fantasy 7. The main story character is Cloud! and there were some flashbacks at his past(sepiroth etc.) I saw some of the trailer and some screenshots, and it was awesome.

Final Fantasy is, in my opinion, one of the greatest game series around, up there with the Zelda series and the Metroid series etc. In fact, I would get a PS2 simply to own all the FF games. But anyway.

I think that VII was amazing, VIII's been pretty good, XII looks awesome, and Tactics for the PS was brilliant. Honestly, Tactics was an RPG masterpiece. Compelling, sometimes confusing storyline, great strategy and solid roleplaying elements mad ethe game absolutely fantastic. In case everyone didn't know, you can actually get Cloud (one of the coolest FF guys ever) in your party by buying flowers from a flower in some town and going on doing as arseload of sidequests from there on. No lie.

I am also interested in FFXI, but I a)don't have a computer that's up to it and b)don't have a life already and c)do enjoy getting a little sleep at night.

Oh, and I saw some trailer action for the FFVII movie involving Cloud, and I am stoked.

Oh, and for those that were asking earlier, FF Tactics Advance is very similar to Tactics, but the battle system has a Judge that enforces restrictive rules. In every match, there will be at least one thing you can't do without being penalized. For everything illegal thing, there is a bonus points counterpart. With the addition of Judges also comes Judge Points, which allow you to use really special moves (more like victory-ensuring blasts) and Combos. You get a bonus judge point for a character using a recommended skill/thing/whatever, but you get penalized or sent to jail (depending on severity) for breaking the rules. There are also Law and Anti-Law cards that can be found and traded to change fights in your favor. It's a very quest-oriented game, and you can be running many quests at once. It has a more non-linear feel, though having a direct storyline (pretty good story) - it's more free-roaming than PS Tactics. It's a pretty solid game.

VII>X>X-2>IX>VIII

There you go. I haven't bought the online version. It may be a long while if VII get's remade or a new one (XII ?) comes out; is there a XII on the way? I have 7-X2 and I loved VII for the story, best one ever. I also liked the weapon upgrade system better with the materia and all, sort of like X and X-2 with slots. I hated the systems in 8 and 9. Battle in X-2 was awesome, I like the movement and rotation.

Biggest peeve: Yuna and company in an all girl pop group? Gayness added to even queerer cutscenes and dialogue.

My favorite character was that little wizard thing in IX. I forget all the names cuz I always rename my characters.

Has anyone beaten X-2 (100%)? I beat it once but never replayed it to get what I'd missed. I was thinking about starting it over again as soon as the semester starts winding down (almost done with Dark Cloud 2 -another good RPG); either that or playing VII again.

Favorite series ever :thumb:

what was the hardest game in your opinions? i think ff8 because it was the only game here were levelling up made things harder because enemies levelled up with you.

my little trick was to keep everyones health low and keep resurecting them with pheonix downs so i could contantly use limit breaks like renzokuken. It was the only way i could beat that Ultima weapon.

and yes another trick i fell across from playing it way too much as a kid was that you could get almost everything you wanted right at the start of the game in balamb garden if you got a huge amount of time on your hands. You can get every card up to page 5 or 6 and then some if you play people and come across them and one of your GF's gets the abilities to turn cards into objects and magic. This means you can get some rare items at this point just by collecting cards, and therefore get the best magic to junction to your abilities, best weapons for each of your characters, and the best everything. Thing is though you DON'T want to level up. So just card fish down by the shore you get all the AP you want to level up your GF's with no exp for your characters. This isn't really cheating if it's there to abuse right?

actually thats an interesting question. i have done it yes all you get is 100ap and a random item one that is sometimes the item that teaches quistis ray bomb. however it does not seem possible to defeat it the first time you face it after it jumps off the tower. it just will not die. even if i use the method i posted above, where i have had the best limit breaks, weapons and junctioned magic for all my characters, it does not die. if anyone has beaten it in that first confrontation i would like to know.

the second time you fight it they way i beat it was that i had the second best weapon i could find for squall, some random magic that boosted my str stat huge and kept my health low. ihad one chracter use pheonix downs on squall if he died and the other use thundara or quezacotl i dun remember. then i jus hit it with renzokukens and thunder, the idea here being to wipe it out before it recharges while its unconcious on the ground, not to simply knock all its hit points off over time. you can kill it in seconds depending on how powerful you are, but i don't think it is possible to beat it the first time

Has anyone defeated the Metal Spider on FFVIII?

You know, when you have gone to Dollet on your SeeD test? I have come close a few times but never done it.

I never had any problems with that spider. I've played VIII twice. I think I never had problems with it because I waste ungodly amounts of time in every area fighting and collecting items. Usually my characters are at much higher levels in the earlier stages (I checked up on it in gamefaqs.???). I don't think I've ever spent less than 100 hours on the first two discs of any of those games except maybe on the first time I played them.

How I usually play ff games:

1st time: play through without worrying about secrets, ultimate weapons, etc...except what I find randomly or using my experience from playing FF -sort of like an instinct thing; you just get used to the way these games are set up and it gets easier to figure things out on your own.

2cnd time: play through like it's my life. If all else fails, use the interent for tips (above).

Fave is FF7, story, music, characters, i got so sucked into it, my fave game ever
FF8 is still amazing, the card game is so addictive
FF9 was great, nice story and characters, although the card game sucked, so much to do
FF10 wasnt bad i guess, nice graphics and Blitzball was fun
Am waiting for FF to come out on multiplayer :D
If anyone liked the music in the games http://www.ocremix.org/
go there, people have remixed songs from the games and alot of other games, if no one has mentioned it already

FF6 still kept my interests with regars to story and strangness lol

I can't say VII was crap because it wasn't, just not my fav FF game.

Now FF5 WAS dodgey and the most fun once you got into it although never completed it i did get RIGHT near the end but i lost my save game when my old PC died and i can't be arsed to get back to where i was.

to be honest i can't give a favourite FF game because i liked them all (that ive played, never played FF tactics)

FF online looks very interesting and rather weird. Only know small amounts about it, but it involes one of my favourite things in the FF series.. The job system woot!

At least in X you get some control over your players. But both get repetitive quickly, and are only an ego boost to do really.

it was the best ability in the game, cos levelling up was useless in FF8 - it just made the enemies stronger. my friend's brother keeps on going on about how good he is at FF8 because his squall's level 99 - even though you only need 99,000exp to achieve this.

i didn't like FF8 that much, because the attacking magics were so weak - ultima only did 3000 damage to ultimecia when my quistis (magic 235) used it, although aura is the sexiest magic ever :)

Forget him, has anyone ever killed the Omega Weapon? That fight is seriously impossible.

am i the only one that managed to kill at my first attempt, without using the zombie trick?

i just had zell, irvine, and squall, all with hp9999 (you have to have 9999, because one of omega's attacks does 9998 damage to everyone, and you can't block it, unless you are invincible, but then you can't cast aura on them), and they all had the aura magic and a way to recover someone fully even if they are dead (full life, revive, recover, elixers, curagas).

first, get everyone to cast aura on themselves, and then get them to cast protect (or whatever that magic was called, the one where it raises the physical defence) on themselves - this will protect them from terra break. if they get hurt, recover them FULLY (VERY IMPORTANT)

then get one of your characters to cast MELTDOWN on omega. this will lower its defence to 0. then get squall to rezokuken, and for zell, keep on using punch rush and heel kick. for irvine, shoot as many fast ammos as possible. you could use eden if you run out of auras

that should kill it. sorry for the long post

I think you're gettiig confused with the CC club quest, because Quistis was the Card King. The Queen of Cards is the lady in red who you find outside the Balamb train station.

And I have seen the Omega weapon being beaten, but that fight needed about 30 Heroes, which I don't think you can get anywhere. (The guy didn't use Holy Wars because when it wore off all the characters lost their invincible status together, and then get finished off with Terra Break.)

It took me next to forever to do it. I had Zidane lv. 61, Eiko lv. 59, Amarant lv. 58, and Steiner lv. 57. Ozma uses LV5 death, which kills any characters on a level the multiple of 5. Zidane kept on stealing, Amarant uses a move called 'no mercy' (=7000 damage), Steiner uses shock (9999 every time), and Eiko either casts Carbuncle (reflects his holy and flare spells back at him), Full life (to revive, duh...), or cast holy.

It's definitely not easy. Be prepared to throw things, and watch out for curse. Set your magic stones to guard against status (e.g. antibody, clear headed, etc.).

If we can't agree about Squall, can we at least agree on two things - that Cloud may well be one of the coolest characters ever, and that Titus was one of the least cool main characters? And on the side note of lesser characters, I think we can all agree that Auron is just plain awesome. (My personal favorite is the Black Mage Vivi...)

-Mike

I pretty much agree with all of that

FFX should have been about Auron, story wise he is a badass, and he is always the best in battle. :thumb:

I was supposed to do an essay tonight, in for tomorrow, but as I sat down in the kitchen to have a drink before retiring to my room to begin, the thought "Hey, maybe I should start Final Fantasy VIII again!" made it's sinister way into my mind. Four hours later, and I finally pulled myself away from it. Five hours later still, and I'm less than a third of the way through this essay. Stupid Final Fantasy :(

^Why do you hate FFVIII?

I quite liked it, the draw + junction system was great to use once you'd figured out how to do it effectiveley.

A few things made me dislike the game:

1. - The Draw system. I didn't like having to draw magic from enemies. Personally, it made the battles to long.

2. - Junk Shops - They blow, I don't like the way one has to roam around the contry side looking for a particular monster, who may drop an item needed to create a weapon.

Thats pretty much it.

Im just saying that ive always been happy with standalone games. Now its becoming like the movie industry, anything that does mildly well warrents a sequel. Its easy to see how SE is trying to suck money out of the FF name. This is quite apparent after the FFX-2 dissaster.

FFVII does not need 3 sequels, theyre was plenty of diclosure at the end of the game (More so in FFX). If any game would be best fit for a sequel, it would be FFVIII. But FFVIII will never get a sequel. EVER. Why? because it doesnt have as big a fanbase as FFVII. FFVII has so many fanboys that the game will do well no matter how much it sucks.

Even the type of sequel.

Before crisis is a cell phone game available only in Japan.

Advent Children is a movie, and while it looks to be amazing, I wish they had chosen to make a whole new movie, A la Spirits within. But SW was a risk and didnt do well. AC will make money no matter what.

Dirge of cerbeus is a Devil May cry styled action game starring Vincent. Again, this game will do well, even if they leave FFVII's RPG rotts and slap on an M rating. Fanboys will flock to it even if the soon to be released DMC3 is 10 times better.

On top of all this, These sequels are delaying the mainline games, like FFXII, that longtime FF fans wish for. I cant tell you how bad I want to play FFXII, but delays keep piling on thx to SE and theyre spinoffs. Also delayed are games like KH2 and the next Brave fencer Musashi game.

This is my opinion, dont flame me, I have good reasons for not wanting more spinoffs.

X-2 didn't have a storyline. It was the *** to FFX. (basically just the continuated endings)
I thought the peak was at FF7 because I loved the (more so) realistic dialogues. The conversations had better flow, and it isn't told like a sissy fairytale, rather, an actual story. Given, FF8 had achieved that better than FF9 and FFX, I didn't like the actual storyline itself. FFX was what killed me. The story, and dialogue was too childish/storybook based.

Final Fantasy VIII's ending in a nutshell:

They all defeat Ultimecia, and are time compressed back to their own world (I guess) everyone's there except for Squall. Rinoa comes looking for him, but can't find him. It cuts to Squall, who is alone. Then it cuts to a scene at the orphanage, where big Squall can see little Squall running around. Big Squall tells Enda all about what's going to happen in the future, then Ultimecia comes and gives Edna her powers, or something. Then we see him collapse in this huge desert, and Rinoa finally finds him, and thinks he's dead, but he's not. Then you see the ship, and it's a very happy yet sad ending. There's a cool camera that Squall might be holding, it's like a camcorder running all the way through the credits, which shows some humerous stuff, like Zell finally getting a hot dog

This might be all out of order, I haven't finished it in a while. It's a weird ending, you really should complete it

Fu ck I forgot what an awesome ending Final Fantasy 8 has.

Well I took down some notes, and I'll just ramble on, and hopefully everything will make sense

OK, so you beat four bosses, Ultimecia, Griever, Ultimecia junctioned to Griever, and then the final Ultimecia. When the final Ultimecia dies, the screen (which is already all black) gets engulfed in white light and then she explodes. There is this white screen, and everyone's in there, apart from Squall of course. They all ramble, but Quistis says "Make sure you pick the right time!" which probably indicates that they are in the compression and are trying to get back to their own time. Rinoa looks for Squall but can't find him.

It cuts to an all black screen. Squall is running around looking for everyone. Then he hears a voice "Squall where are you going?" and it turns into the old orphanage. Edea is there, chasing after the young Squall, old Squall went too far into the past. Ultimecia appears, and Squall wants to fight, but Edea says "For a sorceress to die in peace, she must pass on her powers" and willingly accepts Ultimecia's powers. Edea asks who the old Squall is, and Squall tells her about SeeD and the Garden, and how she came up with those ideas. Edea asks him if he'll be OK, and if he knows where to go, to which Squall replies "I know, Matron" (or something)

Squall briefly goes back to the black screen, where he admits he doesn't want to be alone anymore, now he's found the group, and admits that he can't go on without them. It then cuts to the FMV (ooh yeah) and Squall is in this huge desert, with nothing around him but ground. He starts walking, and finally gets to the end, and then stumbles over.

You see Rinoa in a field (The same field as the opening credits) running about, then Squall sees a white petal, and he grabs it. Squall is suddenly in the same field as Rinoa (Yeah, I'm confused too) and calls out to her. She turns around, and we enter probably the coolest, yet most confusing part of the ending. White wings briefly flash before this part, I don't know if that means anything. You see the clip of Rinoa when we first see her, at the dance. But her face is all mucked up, for some reason. All these random clips come and go, it gets pretty confusing. The final bit is especialy cool, she is walking towards you with the muddled face, and it keeps cutting back to her walking, and you're spinning around this random room, it's great. I don't know what this signifies though.

It cuts back to the desert, and Rinoa is now there, and she finds Squall, who is presumed dead, I guess. But he's really alright. Then it gets really good. Seifer is fishing, and he's not catching any fish, but Raijo (I think that's his name?) is catching all the fish. Seifer cuts it, and Raijo is still celebrating, so the girl kicks him in the ocean. Seifer laughs, but looks almost sad when the Garden flies above. Laguna is featured next in probably is the best bit in the ending, him proposing to Raine. And then, he walks up to a grave, when 'Raine Loire' is etched. Quite cool. He smiles when the Garden flies above.

That is the end of the first bit. There is a cool camcorder thing going on in the credits, Selphie initially holds it, but Irvine does towards the end. The camera goes on Rinoa, then it cuts to another FMV, where Rinoa holds up one more finger, signaling the last dance perhaps? Squall gives us a smile, and then the two kiss, the first kiss in video game history!!!

then I skipped ff9 for awhile because I hated how the characters looked, and went on to ffX which I didn't like too much. I went for X2 anyways but it didn't redeem that chapter of ff.

I did get ff9 since it eventually became like $5. it was much better than I thought, although I still couldn't get over the goofy looking characters.

still waiting for advent children; its looking pretty cool! :thumb:

www.gamefaqs.com

I was going through a phase where I was trying to win without using a FAQ for once.

They aren't that hard to find, anyway

Wow, thanks for making me feel better.
