Meh, some tracks in IX are great, but VII still has the best soundtrack for me. Maybe nostalgia, I don't know.
Infact, everyone keeps going on about the fact that Square would ruin FFVII if they remade it, and make everything look wrong and play wrong... Has anyone given any thought to the soundtrack? I'd love to hear all the FFVII music fully orchestrated in full audio, not General MIDI. But maybe that suckiness of the General MIDI is what gives part of the soundtrack its charm. Hrm.

And as long as they were the AC cast, all would be well.
Anyone know a good place to level up on the PS remake of FF1? I'm on easy mode and want to get to level 99. The zombie dragons in the Citadel of Trials were effective up to the late 40s, but I'm level 52 right now and my "exp to next level" is getting too big for them to remain effective.

The orchestral arrangement of the VII Overworld theme (pre-meteor) is one of my favourite sounding pieces of music ever.
And yeah, they'd use voice actors. They've set a precedent with AC really. Steve Burton would definitely be Cloud. Though in fairness, from the moment I heard him in Kingdom Hearts, I thought they had the right guy for the job. But I can imagine them having a really annoying gimmicky voice for Cait Sith that would grate on me for the whole game.

Honestly, I think it can stand alongside pieces of well regarded classical music. Often Uematsu just writes music that is clearly video game music. Sometimes really good video game music, but video game music nonetheless. But that piece goes beyond that and succeeds as a great piece of standalone music in its own right, with proper musical progression, not short loops.
Pity it just keeps getting interrupted by random encounters in FFVII and you never appreciate it fully!

Random encounters don't bother me too much. Though in some games they happen way too often. VII isn't too bad for it at all. I just like the map music in VII without it being interrupted ;D
As for limit breaks, you get the second limit in each level by using the first one a set number of times - for example I think you use Braver 8 times, and you'll obtain Cross-Slash. To get the first limit in a new level, you need to have killed a certain number of enemies. I think for Cloud to learn Blade Beam, he needs to kill 80 enemies, but I'm not certain. A kill could be through a limit break, physical attack or magic - just as long as that character finishes the enemy off.
Each character has to use their limits a different number of times, and kill a different number of enemies to advance their limit, but once you know how it works like that, it is easy to storm through them.
You can't learn the level 4 limit until all 6 other limits are learnt. Exceptions to this are Vincent, who only has one limit per level, and Cait Sith who only has two limits. Slots becomes available after Dice has been used a set number of times I believe.
RetiredAt21
07-15-2009, 10:27 AM
I never use Cait Sith or Vincent. Cait Sith is just annoying and Vincent's limits are pretty meh.
Happy
07-15-2009, 11:40 AM
I've noticed Vincent has been pretty lacking in my squad. Low Damage, Low HP, Low MP (have been equipping loads of magic and summon materia on him though). Only thing he has is long range.
Still I love him.

People just seem to like because he looks "cool".
fatbandit
07-15-2009, 12:59 PM
He's awful.
Okay, he can do overflow damage. But so can Barret. And by the time you've got to that point, all your characters will be absolute titans anyway.
And long range is pretty moot. If you can't spare one materia slot to put a long range materia in it, then you're doing things wrong.

On the character discussion ... as with most RPG's the battle difference in the characters becomes moot after a certain point, I usually base it on who's actual character is better for the story progression scenes, and well... who's limit breaks/attack looks coolest :p

Well, regardless of whether Vincent heals the enemy or not, losing control of him indefinitely does not help with any strategy whatsoever. And the Chaos limit is kind of lame. By that point you can have general badassery from your materia and do just as well, with complete control ove rhim.

I'm not level grinding at all, Cloud just happens to have used Braver a bunch, I'm in the Shinra building on level 11 which is perfectly average.
I did one grinding game in VII, where I set out to do a perfect game, and did, like every stat and level maxed, every item, mastered every materia, got learned and used every limit (including Great Gospel). A very, very, very long time. More time than I'd like to admit to :-/.
I can tell you the game clock stops at 99.59, and I was looking at that for probably longer than it took to count that far. I think I did this when I was 15 or 16, on my third play through the game, with the use of a guide for certain things (especially for not missing any items/materia)
I always looked for shortcuts too of course, HP/MP plus materia ftw ( though it got to the point I didn't need them) and weapons with 2x/3x AP ftw.

Trees: It's 2xcut from the Sunken Gelinka, level it up or master it, you'll do 4 attacks in one go, with Clouds Ultimate Weapon you pretyy much ruin anything. Yeah your accessory can get broken, but it's easy to time the slots to choose the best of a few bad things. Tap square repeatedly when the slots are rolling, easier to see what you're dealing with, also helps with Tifa's limit break timing.

Mister_Che
07-17-2009, 04:02 PM
For the second limit break in a level, you have to use the first limit break a set number of times (usually less than 10). To unlock the first limit break in the next level, you have to kill a certain amount of enemies (not necessarily with a limit break, around 80).

For the battle arena in 7, the first rounds make virtually no difference to your final score. The only one that has any meaningful impact on your points is the last round. And the result on the reel that will give you the most points is All Materia Broken. So aim for that one on your final slot choice. If you can finish the battle, great. If not, and your item command isn't sealed, you can use a Smoke Bomb to escape the battle, but with your BP intact. Using this method can net 10000 BP (give or take a few thousand) per entry :)

Just listened to a couple more. The Clash on the Big Bridge is pretty neat, but the bass is too bassy and I don't like it (same can be said for all of these, it seems!). The drum fill at 33 seconds in is WEAK, haha. Digging The Decisive Battle though.

Yuffie Level 1
Greased Lightning - Beginning Limit Break. Yuffie attacks a single opponent, inflicting great damage. A solid starting Limit.
Clear Tranquil - Unlocked after using Greased Lightning eight times. A blue barrier surrounds the party and restores a small portion of HP.
Level 2
Landscaper - Unlocked after defeating eighty enemies with Yuffie. Yuffie causes an earthquake beneath her enemies, greatly damaging all of them. Great against groups of enemies.
Bloodfest - Unlocked after using Landscaper seven times. Yuffie assaults her opponents with a barrage of 10 hits. Effective against groups of enemies or a single enemy.
Level 3
Gauntlet - Unlocked after defeating 160 enemies with Yuffie - Yuffie creates a blue vortex around her enemies, causing great damage to them all. Very useful against groups of opponents.
Doom of the Living - Unlocked after using Gauntlet six times. Similar to Bloodfest, Yuffie moves around and strikes her opponents numerous times. Stronger than Bloodfest.
Level 4
All Creation - Acquired when defeating Godo, Yuffie's father, at Wutai during Yuffie's side quest. Yuffie summons a destructive beam of light to crash down on her enemies. Devastating against a single enemy or groups of enemies.

07-21-2009, 05:28 PM
Barret has the highest natural HP, and a good strength. Plus he is a back row fighter without the aid of a Long Range materia. His relatively poor offensive magic capabilities are offset by the facts that a) he's a 'tank' - why is he using magic? b) the stats of the characters actually vary very little in real game terms and c) by endgame, why are you using offensive magic? It is just a waste of MP when physical attacks are quicker, cheaper and more effective. A flaw in the game? Yes. A flaw in nearly every FF title? Yes.

He gets decent damage, it just seems like Cloud, Yuffie and Cid always did a lot more damage.
fatbandit
07-22-2009, 12:10 PM
Cloud's ultimate weapon does more damage the higher Cloud's HP gauge is filled. Cid's is the same, with his MP gauge (incidentally, so is Red XIII's). Yuffie's ultimate weapon does damage based on the enemy's level.
Barret's one however, deals greater damage the more AP is on the materia he has on it. So stick a mastered Knights of the Round materia in it and go pwn some monsters.
He is infact so powerful that he can one hit KO Emerald Weapon with it.
RetiredAt21
07-22-2009, 12:15 PM
What?
fatbandit
07-22-2009, 12:38 PM
A glitch in the way FFVII calculates damage means that two characters can actually do enough damage to one hit KO Emerald Weapon in what is normally known as overflow damage - Barret and Vincent. However, Vincent needs to kill thousands upon thousands of enemies to achieve it. Barret just needs lots of AP.

How do I get Vincent again?
Go to the Shinra mansion in Nibelheim. There is a note in the first floor room on the left that gives you clues to unlocking the 4 digit combination to the safe in the second floor room. Note that these are out of order:
1. The box with "the most oxygen" in it is the chest in the greenhouse upstairs. Check the box a second time for the code.
2. The number "short of tea and ray" can be found behind the piano in the first floor.
3. Although you are given specific steps to take from the creak in the floor upstairs, you can mash confirm in the left hallway by the window until you find the number.
4. The last clue, similar to FFVIII, is actually hidden in the text bubble. It's the fourth invisible choice.
The numbers are random.
Once you unlock the safe you'll be tossed into a boss fight against Lost Number.
As you can see, he's an ugly bastard split into a purple and red side. If you're fast, you can crush him quickly and come away with little lost.
If you're slow, he'll eventually transform into either a full red or a full purple, enhancing his magic or physical attacks per the respective color. If he's red, his magic hurts bad, but he's a softie on physical attacks. Opposite if he's blue. Thankfully he's vulnerable to stop, so use that and Choco/Mog.
Once you beat him you'll get Cosmo Memory, an Odin materia, and the key to the basement. go down to the basement and talk to Vincent. Ask him for his name then leave. He'll join you afterwards.

yesterday I said to a girl that I would like to play final fantasy 7 while I was getting head and she said she thought that was normal and that she would do it if her boyfriend asked her. that made me laugh that she thought that was normal.

Is she a fat goth anime nerd by chance?
surprisingly no, i guess she just has low self confidence because most girls i know said they would find that degrading.

It makes the enemy have a chance of being given a status effect every time you attack the enemy. It's unbelievably useful. It gets ridiculous when you get that and have 4x cut at a really high level, then you start doing 9999 4x and putting a status effect on an enemy every time you just hit 'attack' because when you have 4x cut every slice is another chance to give an enemy a status.

When you get that strong the game isn't even fun anymore.

It's in the sunken Gelnika. I would wait until you get the submarine and then just search ff7 map. There are a lot of maps on google that will show you where to go to get to the sunken Gelnika, can't remember off the top of my head sorry. That place has ****ing strong monsters though, they whooped my *** when i first went to get Hades and the double cut from there. The key is to just get an item and then run back to the save point. If you go there below level 60 you'll get destroyed. I am going to play this game now, you got me into it.
