View Full Version : The Black Mage Village (Final Fantasy)
I have a girlfriend, she gets annoyed when I spend too much time on games.
But yeah, NSM is far too addictive. Thing is though...once I'm done playing through as Mario I'm thinking about starting a game up and playing through as Luigi...

I'm a nerd. :)
Anyone still doubting Crisis Core should read this
http://uk.psp.ign.com/articles/860/860615p1.html
The videos are awesome too. Honestly, I wouldn't even care if the game play completely sucked, a decent story, and just seeing those locations in those graphics is going to be fanboy splooge material for me.
"But also, a number of the locales in Crisis Core are actual 3D redesigns of the original environments in Final Fantasy VII. Any fan who remembers walking through the lobby of Shinra Headquarters will feel nostalgic when they see it so accurately re-created in Crisis Core."
Yes.

Everyone keeps saying it is. It isn't.
Hideo Kojima said he'd like to develop games for Xbox and Microsoft in the future, but never said anything about MGS4 and it's been widely misinterpreted. It's possible it will come out eventually on the 360, but as of yet, it's PS3 exclusive.

Wrong. There is a lot of story (a good one to imo), but there are just so many non-story parts of the game in between the story segments of the game, that it becomes hard to remember what's going on, what you're doing and why etc.

stfu there's clearly a story
i get that there's not much development in your primary goals, and that it seems fairly mission-based, but you have to realise that it's a different kind of story in this. The chapters represent political developments and it's entirely based on the machinations of warring states.
The story is still entirely there, it is just less complex, and paradoxically harder to follow.
I got like 13 hours into XII, forgot what it's all about and had to restart it. played about 17 hours and forgot the story again. Iguess I just didn't care enough :)
the only thing I can vaguely remember is that assasination scene

Have any of you played Lost Odyssey? I thought it was surprisingly good and refreshingly FF-esque. It was mostly like FFX, but that's what made it good :) . The story line was pretty absorptive, I ended up finishing it in less then a week. I decided to try a new play strategy this time: finish the story, but leave a save before the end to finish all the side-quests later, as opposed to not finishing till all the extras were done.

FlyingPaul_83

^The more you use a weapon, the better your characters get with it. So say you have someone with a spear and he sucks with it. Just keep using it and he'll gain experience with it until hes good with it.
That game has an interesting leveling system. Basically The more you use it the better you get with it. Same with magic.

lol linear gameplay and predictable story? Go play something else if you don't want those things because they are defining features of ff.
x was definitely one of the best ones. It was huge, had a well-realised and consistent universe, great animation, a good battle system and an infinitely rewarding levelling system, good and extensive sidequests, a good score, the list goes on.
If you can't see that then you've been blinded by some irritating voice acting and a few significant changes to the form.
I'll be the first to admit I thought it was the biggest mistake square had ever made when i first played it, but I got over it.
There isn't a 100% perfect Final Fantasy game to be honest. Not even VII.
I keep getting beaten by Bahamut on III at the moment, I've currently got a Dark Knight/Monk/White Mage/Evoker party all at lvl 38.

My Dragoon came in very useful vs Bahamut
Have you beaten Odin yet? Before you do, you should get a (some sites say 70+) high level theif to steal the Gungir from him first considering its the best Dragoon weapon in game
Its probably why my Dragoon helped vs bahamut
EDIT2: Actually I had already gotten more then just a good Dragoon when I faced him, he was really hard.
EDIT: And no, there really isnt a 100% FF.

I don't really think it's due to the merge, I think it's due to them trying to evolve in different ways, and them seriously not working out.
Examples include, changing the battle system, removing world maps, making the games much less about story and more about graphics and fetch missions.

Liberi Fatali
04-05-2008, 05:32 AM
Well given what they accomplished in XII in terms of expansive landscapes, a return of the world map might not be such a stretch in terms of hardware, though I doubt they will. I'd love to see a GTA approach to the world, with a focus on one expansive world.
Then again even if that is possible on the current gen consoles, it would take such an incredible amount of time and effort.
fingers mccoy
04-05-2008, 05:43 AM
yeh i don't really see the point, the way final fantasy games play a world map is redundant nowadays because you don't need it to have a gradually revealed infrastructure
it would just be archaic revisiting a world map because what makes it? Sacrificing of textural detail for an illuminating representation of the game world's landscape? With the detail we can now achieve with real-time rendered graphics it makes more sense to have the accessible parts of the game world mapped out along routes, and any additional geographical information to be provided by cut-scenes and the narrative or a reference map or something. The game world should be able to look consistent and complete without such an unrealistic method of portraying and having your party traverse it.
Yeah loading times suck, but they're necessary.

tru say the world map in VIII was awful, a bunch of invisible barriers and slow travel in all non-ragnarok vehicles made exploration incredibly boring, not to mention that there was nowhere near enough shallow coastline for the Garden to use
i missed the world map a lot, but i think it's done.

It wasn't the vehicles. It was the size of the map. Either it was too big, or too small. Never medium. I liked Final Fantasy VII, and Final Fantasy IX's maps. I wish that older FF's had them such as 4 & 5.

I was planning on using the Sage to help with Curaja/Arise when needed and Flare/Meteor otherwise, Sage + Summon in a boss fight is too un-reliable.
