i've found FF8 definately appealed more to the emo sci fi geek even more so than FF7 simply because the world FF8 is set in is so rich in hi tech goodness and the characters talk about feelings a lot.

It's my favourite

I never liked it because I hated the junk shops and drawing magic. It made the game too tedious.;

I found the junk shops in VIII annoying, especially when you needed some hard to find items. Aside from that though I thought VIII was pretty good, sucks how my disc 1 is broken so it skips then freezes on the opening movie meaning I can't begin a new game :(

I remember playing the demo to death before getting the full game the following Christmas.

I even abandoned my game on VII to play VIII, until I got to the space bit on Disc 3 which really pissed me off for some reason so I abandoned VIII, completed VII then went back to VIII.

this guy who used to live over the road from me and was a few years older than me would always come over for a while and show me the new games that were coming out. he let me have a look when he got VIII and I remember another time he came round to show me Resident Evil 2. he had all the VII figures on a table in his room and i'd go on about how brilliant it was  man I thought that guy was god...

Also broken discs can be fixed, provided they are only scratched, just ask around in any local game shops if they have a machine to resurface discs, one of the local shops here has one and they let you use it for like £2.00 a disc. I fixed my FFVII discs with it, and plan to fix FFVIII too.

(Hey I got both games when they first came out, a little rough and tumble is expected :smash:)

Yesterday, for the first time ever I was disappointed by FFVII.

Being able to beat the final Sephiroth using one Knights of the Round with each knight hitting for roughly 6,300hp was a bit lame.

Mister_Che
09-12-2007, 07:16 AM
Oh god. I've just stopped using Knights of the Round on him since it kills any fun factor that fight had.

MrConeman
09-12-2007, 10:21 AM
That's the one problem with outside of Japan having Emerald and Ruby weapon in the game. They have so ridiculously much HP, and are so hard if you're doing it for the first time without a guide or anything, that Sephiroth totally pales in comparison, if you can take out the hardest weapons Sephiroth is a walk in the park.

FFVII, in the grand scheme of things was a fairly easy game, but I mean if you go out of your way to get to a very high level, and to get the best summon move in the entire game you had best expect the bosses to be easy. If they were still hard with all of the best stuff they would be damn near impossible the first time round, or for the less serious players.

I bought FFXII yesterday, its alright so far but I'm not a fan of having to move the camera with the right analogue stick, its annoying. I hate how right and left are inverted

Also the amount of dialogue compared to gameplay in the first couple of hours is annoying.

It only cost £17.99, with £8.40 of that being Gamestation credit for trading in a bunch of old games

i didnt find the marks fun at all, but the main story had its merits. None of the story elements seemed very important to me, and by the time these two swords of destiny things got introduced i found it difficult to take it seriously. It was at its best around a third of the way through.

MAthiAS

I liked the part where they're like imprisoned in that place... cuz it reminds me of the desert prison in VIII.

The rest of the game is just running around man its annoying. Parts of the world remind me of Riven a little bit, which is good, but not... I don't know.

Phalanx

i found FFXII to be pretty crappy. I've got to the bit where you go to that jungle place and so far, I really don't care for the storyline, i've come to the conclusions that quickenings are a waste of time and the gambit system makes the game ridiculously easy. Plus the bulk of the attacks in the game consist of "attack".

Kinda reminds me of Legend of Dragoon except I actually liked the story in that, cliched but meh, im a sucker for fantasies

fingers mccoy
09-15-2007, 02:35 PM

http://www.tudou.com/programs/view/EwsSrlaQh0s/

Blame Square for milking their greatest achievement with all of these spin offs if you like, but I don't care what anyone says, this game genuinely looks like it'll be worthwhile. I mean Dirge was fun, and Advent Children was nice. But this looks like it'll be the better of the spin-offs. Yeah I pretty much agree, although a game like MGS wouldn't be the same without it.

It obviously depends on how good it is... but I mean, in an FF game you can't really go wrong with text. Voice acting is a luxury I don't care about at all.

Super Mario RPG: Legend of the Seven Stars

This Square/Nintendo crossover could be seen as the spiritual antecedent to Kingdom Hearts and Paper Mario -- but it isn't as good as either. It's visually dated and sports a combat system that seems like a primitive sketch of what would be perfected in Paper Mario, and even the amusing hidden boss that parodies Final Fantasy's highfalutin pretentiousness isn't quite enough to make up for the game's shortcomings.

Oh my God, this guy needs to be killed.

Final Fantasy VIII

The follow-up to Final Fantasy VII took the series in new and unexpected directions, much to the surprise of everyone who expected FFVII Part Two. Materia and armor were replaced by a system that allowed characters to fuse magic spells to their various stats, and summoning monsters became a more intrinsic part of the gameplay than in any previous Final Fantasy. Its daring efforts made it a remarkable (and controversial) experience at the time, but unfortunately, it's vaguely unplayable by current standards due to sluggish battles and a story predicated almost entirely on preposterous coincidences. A streamlined remake wouldn't be so bad, though....

There is no way this guy played past disc 1.

Lol I actually thought Tomba, then thought you couldn't have been talking about it.

Loved flinging pigs into trees and stuff in that game.

I'm continuing my game of Final Fantasy XII atm, been exploring Nabreus Deadlands quite a bit. Though the Necrohol of Nabudis still is a bit out of my league, I enter and then I get about 5 or 6 skeleton guys all come after me and I get to the point where my characters are just constantly healing each other.

I think the most fun I have in XII is just exploring all the regions. Though they're not as beautiful as in X nor memorable.

True true.... What I've enjoyed most so far from FF XII is the battle system. Its something new, the license grid isn't all to bad of an idea either. The story was kind of weak, it was good but just not up to par i think. I havent beat the game yet though, so I guess i can't talk. I'm right at the end though.

I preferred X's license grid.

I hated X's grid. I found it really annoying.

XII's grid was retarded. for example: you could go from being a light armor master to a heavy armor master with next to no penalty

And even the characters who didn't fight could do all that too.

Basically they need to go back to a proper levels system that predetermines your stats. It sounds basic or whatever, but honestly, what's the point in customising your characters for a little while, when in the end they all end up exactly the same anyway?

Unless they start giving each character their own totally different grid, there's absolutely no reason for them.
