I usually get really excited when they announce a new FF, but FF XIII just doesn't look very appealing to me. I feel like they are straying too far from the series' roots. I'll be buying in reasonably soon, personally I don't care if the gameplay is subpar I just want as much of FFVII's story line as available to me, and it has all the characters from VII in it, so yeah, it's a compulsory buy.

Man, FFXII just keeps getting better and better. I had my first fight with Dr. Cid and now I'm supposed to travel through the Feywood to whatever that holy land is called. I decided to try and collect a couple of more espers first and get completely caught up on hunts though. So far I've gotten 14 or 15 hunts done, I have four espers (Cuchulainn, Adrammelech, Mateus, and Belias) and my entire party is level 40+.

Yeah, I'm guessing it'll be like FF X-2, but not aimed at woman and not incredibly average.

I really love the video though cool vibe, mysterious setting, good music (I'm hoping Masashi Hamauzu will be doing the music for both XIII and Versus XIII), and wicked main character.

Although I think the matrix-style stopping bullets was fairly average.

VIII has some things wrong with it but its still a fantastic game that I love to play through.

I mainly don't like how the secondary characters are basically unimportant 5 minutes after they're introduced. But the Squall-Rinoa storyline is so well done its made up for.

In FFXII i just arrived in Raithwall's Tomb and I'm trying to kill the demon wall instead of running away like a little girl. So far I have failed. I chained like 5 quickenings together twice and only got him down halfway. At least I figured out how they actually work now.

You gotta chain more quickenings together with both of your parties. And if that doesn't do it, bring in your best melee fighters to finish it up.

sup, i know that, but not all my characters have quickenings. maybe i should get some more, huh? my characters are all about level 16 right now. also, i read online that if you open certain treasures, it will prevent you from getting this awesomse spear later in the game. do you know if this is true?

And you need to level up to the point where all of your characters have three quickenings.

I think people are shitting on it because it's a Final Fantasy game and didn't live up to the name, not only that, but it's related to FFVII and like it or not, really thats the ones most fans hold dear, so when Dirge wasn't that great people were a bit pissed off.
But, from what I hear from a reliable source (an online buddy of mine, big FF fan and trustworthy on games) it's really not that bad.
He says it's entirely average, it's a fun play through, but it's not crap like people make out.

I'll be getting it soon anyway, I'll report back.

I'm doing some quick evening out of my party here, getting Balthier and Penelo up around other people's levels... them going down so quick is making bosses far harder than they need to be. I went through my entire supply of Phoenix Downs and Hi-Potions against the big green dragon thing after the jungle and Eruyt village.

i restarted my game and moved straight to the quickenings on the liscence boards. i just beat the lhusu mines at around level 14 and totally annihilated the dudes you ran away from. Vaan and Fran both have 3 quickenings, Basch and Balthier both have 2. Basically all the gice that are supposed to be hard get destroyed with one chain of quickenings. The strategy seems to be pretty good...the only real problem is the fact that you don't exactly have the best weapons towards the beginning, but that's starting to change rather quickly now.

XII is pretty cool, but I'm kinda disappointed with the license board. it's pretty retarded that you can jump from a high level light armor to a high level heavy armor without penalty.

the battle system is pretty cool. you can essentially "program" your characters to react differently based on different circumstances.

as a whole, the style and what not kind of reminds me of FFIV (the one with Cecil and Kain)...I'm not really sure why though

in the 10+ times I must've beaten FF7 before, i've never bothered to get a gold chocobo until now. Well I got one last night, got the materia from the secret caves and am preparing to fight ruby and emerald weapon.

I checked a few sites on how to prepare but they all seem to have different ways so I was just wondering how some of you beat them and what you used (if you can remember).

ruby weapon: equip the mystile on at least one person, final attack phoenix on that same guy

emerald weapon: final attack phoenix x a milion, every character with lucky 7's, tons of counter attack materias, enemy attack -> big guard, knights of the round x a million

Normally when a game comes out months earlier in the States before it comes out in PAL regions, I force it out of my mind and forget about it. Then usually I remember it a week or so before it gets released in PAL regions, and agonise over the short wait before its release. But with Final Fantasy XII, I've already started agonising over the wait and still have a month left before it is released. Man this is unbearable.

What are your thoughts on the Sphere Grid? I personally like the normal leveling system better, but it's not bad.

Since my thread about Rogue Galaxy failed, I'll post this here.

Just got the game today, and its pretty awesome. It's about space pirates and whatnot. The battle system is very much like Star Ocean 3. It's made by Level 5, the same guys that made Dragon Quest 8. The US version of this game is the enhanced version of the game with extra locations, hunts, and other stuff. So far its really good, and at 39.99, I think its worth checking out. It got an 8.7 from IGN. :thumb:

Ive done this with IX and XII. Played the rest at least 3 times through. I dunno what it is about XII, it just doesn't keep me wanting to play.

it was really cool for starting off, but eventually all the characters become exactly the same if you did the Cactuar trick.

I liked Cait Sith as a character but I never used him on my team, he's just a joke character to me, even though his second, third, and forth limit breaks are probably decent, I dunno.

He had the coolest theme ever so he wins extra points for that.

It was just stupid how after nearly getting mauled on an airship by badass Mages and other things, how you end up in a swamp with a retarded creature in a nightgown asking ''I hunt frogs now!?''

Then you have to pair up with him later on when 2 of your characters go to each elemental place, he was so weak. That fight was annoying.

Lulu was awesome. One of my favourite characters. Although I guess I see your point about no decent characters. It only had three as far as I can see - Lulu, Auron and Kimhari.

Also, I found out accidentally yesterday (since I never finished X) that Lulu and Wakka get it on and have a kid? That is all kinds of bullcrap.

Yeah, good call. He's been the worst main character so far. Squall was the best because for the most part he was a total anti-hero. I always loved the fact he never wanted to be the leader and always resented having the job thrust upon him.

Of course, Vincent has been the best character yet invented over the course of the whole series.

Rikku was one of the strongest characters in the game for me, I only ever used her, Auron and Tidus. Her ultimate weapon was one of the easiest to get though, so I had that early on meaning she could do more than 9,999 damage.

Final Fantasy XII is pretty awful, IMO. I played it for 30 hours, was completely bored and hated all the characters except Balthier, so I returned it. A huge disappointment for me...

Opinions please. I'm thinking of attempting to get all the way through FFIX for the first time (but the 3rd or 4th try). I remember hearing good things about Freya and Quina in terms of their abilities, Limit Breaks etc. So I'm thinking my team this time will be:

Zidane, Freya, Vivi and Quina. Opinions on this set up?

It's been a few years since I've played IX, but I'm pretty sure that Quina gets a few healing spells using her blue magic/cook ability...

I think Quina can get 'big guard' or 'mighty guard', whatever its called in IX from the Black Mage forest or outside Lindblum, it's a great blue magic spell to have.

I was gonna say try make all of your party have the auto potion ability but im not sure if they can all get it, and you could probably only use hi potions which wont really help a great deal..so i dunno.

Tidus' outfit was really lame but other than that I haven't really cared about outfits... I mean Cloud just had to have that single shoulder pad noone seemed bothered by it though.
