I'm on disk 2, I just haven't played it for a week, Personal problems ftl:(

Dont you just hate it when something like that makes you lose interest in your beloved games?

So guys, is FFXII really not coming out in the UK til the end of Feb 2007? Cos that's the crappest thing I've ever heard. By that time everyone will already be enjoying their PS3s/Wiis. These long delays are just annoying. I've really lost interest in Zelda too.

Edit: On the plus side, I've found second hand copies of FF 6-9 on amazon. Might get a couple of them.

PAJJ

and do, they're all brilliant, 7,9,6,8 is probably order i'd put them in

Ah yes, it's delayed til March. I guess that means we get FF a couple of weeks before the PS3 is released here. Lucky us.

FF6 is such an awesome game. And considering it came out in '94 just adds to its greatness. The 3ds don't do much for me, but I'm looking forward to x-2

I agree, 6 was the best.

It just combined every element that is awesome from FF and made a superb game in the end. I think you can only really fully recognize how amazing the 2D final fantasy's were unless you were grew up with them. There are exceptions however, but realistically, MOST FF fans nowadays started with FF7 and just shove away everything that came before it. The regulars here in this thread have sense though. They appreciate all that FF games have to offer.:thumb:

Prolly got the best music as well. FFVIII is fantastic, the only flaw I really see is that most of the characters have no part in the story after their introduction sequence role thing.

Speaking of FF music, all the reviews I've seen so far of XII have spoken unfavourably about the music. I've downloaded a few songs off the soundtrack, and they just seem over-grandiose and lacking in emotion. Damn it, bring back Nobuo!

And it looks as though I'm going to have to wait until Feb next year to play XII, god damn it.

Not to mention the fact that I'm having to wait till Feb next year to play Okami, god damn it again.

I started FF8 for the first time a few weeks ago. Gave up once I got to the fake president fight but started again last week now I'm getting used to everything. I still don't like the junction system much, but it's easier now I know how it all works more.
Do all the enemies level up with your characters though? Squall's around level 30 and the T-rex in the training centre takes endless GF summons for 20 minutes to kill, as did Diablos. I haven't fought anything else for hours though so I don't know if the other enemies are the same.

and about FFXII's music, I bought the soundtrack the day it was released, but I haven't listened to it much since I've got no idea what any of the track titles mean, having not played the game. The title track, Symphonic Poem - Hope, is one of my favourite FF songs, but from what I've heard of the rest there aren't many memorable themes. I doubt I'd like some of the previous soundtracks as much if I didn't have the places and characters to relate them too though, so maybe that'll change once I play the game (in 5 months time).

Yeah exactly. When I heard Theme of the Empire playing in a trailer for the game I got all excited and giddy. Yet when you listen to the entire song, it ponces around, with goes in a whole myriad of directions. Every 30 seconds you're moving into a new area, a new verse. And in a 7 minute 50 seconds long song, you just get lost.

Do all the enemies level up with your characters though?
Yeah the enemies level up with you.

I would LOVE to see them live, some people think I'm weird for liking a band doing music from a game, but I'd see them in a heartbeat if I had the chance, not only is the music good, and from games that I love, but as musicians they are all pretty sweet.

I'm there too, I'm starting to like it more now that I'm used to the junction system, and the way the enemies level up along with your characters so bosses are actually challenging.

one thing I don't know though, is there a limit to how much magic you can hold? I remember there being a question on that in the SeeD test, but sometimes the characters can't stock a certain type of magic when they should be able to (ie they have less than 100 stocked already), and other times or for other magic they can.

I love FFIX but as Ollie mentioned leveling up does become a bitch at higher levels.

That would be the reason that I've never finished it. Levelling up in that game is so damn tedious and above all difficult. It doesn't help that Garnet and Steiner disappear for a large chunk of the game and don't keep up with the rest of my party's levels.

I remember the first time I ran through the game - great story, great graphics, decent FMV but the levelling up sucked hairy goat balls. I got to that other dimension where everything is made of crystal or whatever and my team were only in the 3000s HP-wise. I knew it was near the end, I could just tell and I knew the last boss would just blow me away with HP that low. I got totally demoralised and deleted all my saves.

Since then I've tried to play it through again a few times and every single time the levelling up ruins it for me.

Yeah, decent but not great. I was surprised that the IGN review thought X had a better soundtrack than XII. That means XII must be pretty damn average musically.

I was even more appalled that X's music got a mention but VII and VIII's didn't. Those games have killer music.

For serious. VII and VIII are fantastic musically, I know (or I think I know) that Nobuo had less or no involvement in XII's soundtrack, I know that he left and all, but did he do anything for the music in XII?

FlyingPaul_83
10-30-2006, 05:10 PM
^ he did vocal theme song "kiss me goodbye" which is amazing. Hitoshi Sakimoto did the XII soundtrack, and I think his sytle will be perfect for this game.

MrConeman
10-30-2006, 05:21 PM
Thanks man :)
Yer, it's a bit of a shame Nobuo is leaving when technology is pretty much brilliant for video game music, it all sounds great these days, production wise he could have had his best stuff in front of him. Oh well.

I've seen the sound track for XII available on the net for download, but I think I'd rather wait to play the game, some of the music works so much better in context of playing the game, Aeris' theme wouldn't have been as special to me without the events of the game going on around it.

That's what I've though since I bought the soundtrack. Symphonic Poem Hope (which I think is just a promotional track that's not used in the game) and a couple of other songs are some of my favourite FF tracks, but a lot of the music doesn't seem that interesting. Like you said with Aeris' theme though, you probably just need to hear it in the context of the game.

There are also a couple of other Nobuo songs on the OST besides Kiss Me Goodbye, but they're just Sakimoto's arrangements (like the chocobo theme). He's obviously still doing work for Square though since he composed most of the AC soundtrack, along with the Black Mages' guitarist. Apparently they've already got someone else doing the FFXIII soundtrack though so he wouldn't be scoring another game for a few years, unless an FFVII remake really is planned/in development.

Hey guys, I found a great shop when I was in France last week.

It had every Final Fantasy soundtrack (including Piano Collections) along with a few other soundtracks (I saw the Chrono Trigger soundtrack) all in one glass cabinet. I have the VI, VII, VIII and IX OST's, but not on cd form, and this was the first time I'd ever seen them in cd form. I was quite excited, but annoyed about not being able to afford them (€40 for a 4-disc OST, quite cheap really)

They also had a copy of Bahamut Lagoon (apologies if I got the name wrong) which I'd never actually thought I'd see in real life.

So yeh, a nice little shop in the centre of Limoges if anyone's in that area anytime soon...

I think its awesome so far. The battle system I need to get used to.

The fact that I spent 3 hours in Rabanastre doing a few hunts and levelling up/licensing at the START OF THE GAME makes it feel like a VERY promising game. It seems like its going to be brimming with content.

And I love how the load/intro screen is the classic FF epilogue music. Its so amazing. :D:thumb:

The first level II hunt is pretty tough. Mostly because of the random enemies that you have to fight with it.

If your gambits are setup well it should be doable at a moderate level, not much harder than the big turtle. Just a lot of damage flying around.

well kaktor island is pretty much the best place to gain AP as far as I can remember (leveling up isn't that necessary in VIII since all enemies level up as you do, if you have the minus lvl ability (forget the exact name of it) it's pretty cool)...
anywayyyyyyy kaktor island is somewhere around that big desert island and there's lots of kaktors running around givng lots of AP. those bastards are quick as hell though, you should junc. 100 water spells to Squall's attack since they hate water and Squall being the only one of the few guys who can hit them from the start.

What Timm said. Get your current GFs to full AP. Start leveling only when you have Strength, Magic, etc. Bonuses available so that you can cap your characters' stats while they're leveling.

Because us Americans have to do our own thing. Same thing with the whole metric system thing.

Japan is NTSC and they make a majority of all video games, so America wins by affiliation.

Just run around for an hour in the desert mopping up enemies. I'm at the Tomb of Raithwall right now and everyone on my party is level 20-21, but I think I need to level up some more. I defeated the demon wall in the second chamber, but the first one keeps kicking my ***. Most of my party members have three quickenings and even unleashing that doesn't really do much damage to that first wall. :(

Ugh. That pseudo real-time fighting system bugs the crap out of me.

I'm only 1:30 into the game and I just defeated that Rogue Tomato, now I have to find an invitation to the Fete. I have no asipirations to play this solely on that lame fighting system. It's an ugly mesh of real-time and turn based.

I like the new combat system a lot more than the old stationary, random encounter one. Plus, the environment plays a heavy role in a few key boss battles. I don't want to spoil anything though.

You can actually run far enough away from the enemy that they can't reach you to attack, then once your gauge refills, turn around and swing. Plus, the more augments you earn on the license board, the more effectively you can block, recover, etc.. there are even augments that reduce your time gauge by 10% every time you purchase one.

The system doesn't seem great at the start, but trust me, it gets way better.

great way to judge an entire game and it's battle system with a level 2 character

The key to defeating the first demon wall is how many quickenings you can chain together. When I first fought that boss, I got owned. So I went back to the land sea and leveled up big time. Then I went and bought better weapons/equipment and most of all, accuired three quickenings for all of my characters. Then I went back, fought and beat the boss. Start off a quickening chain using your weaker characters(try to get a good, long chain) and when they're done, bring in your heavy hitters. Try and get a good quickening chain with them and with luck, you would've depleted a rather large portion of the Wall's health. Then try and finish him off with your stronger, melee characters. Hope that helps!

Plus when you defeat him, you get a cool sword! :thumb:

I'm at that place and getting owned by the bird thing outside because I didn't get the Ixilo Seed... Where's that thing at?

I actually beat that avion in one attack using my quickenings. I just set off a 6-hit combo and finished with Inferno, and when the screen cleared the avion was toast.

My party is totally un-balanced at the moment. My weaker characters are at level 22-23 whilst my stronger, primary characters are at level 35. And yet with those weaker, secondary characters, I did the following:

12 quickenings = 21, 364 points of damage = one dead boss. :thumb:

What are these quickening things? From the way you describe them they seem like a bit of a boss cheat?

Apollyon
11-16-2006, 03:42 PM
Search around the license board for grids that say "Quickening". They're marked with an orange dot like Techniks. They're sort of like limit breaks from the other FF games, except they run on MP charges. One charge = the equivalent of your max MP. You can purchase up to three Quickening charges for each character.

Also, the more charges you have, the more powerful quickenings you can do. There are quickenings that cost 1 charge, 2 charges, and 3 charges.

Not really. Quickenings and their chains will deplete your MP and there is no garuntee of doing massive amounts of damage each time.

I just beat the mines in FFXII. I thought that the dude that joins your party right before that was a girl. One thing that I have been wondering is, while you're SUPPOSED to go to certain places, you can wander to different areas. Is there any benefit to this? For example, (SPOILER!) when being chased out of the mine, you can re-enter and travel through it. I didn't go to far back in, but should I have?

You are pretty much expected to do things like that. XII would be far too difficult without long leveling up and LP building adventures. Its fine to do in the middle of a twist in the story or w/e, as long as it doesn't ruin the flow of the game or story for you personally. Plus money is real hard to come by, so getting the loot is nice too.

The best way to get gil that I've found so far, is when you get to the Paramina Rift, look for Skull Knights and Dark Skeletons. Everytime you encounter one, steal from it and you should usually end up with a sturdy bone. You can steal one and then kill the skeleton and it'll sometimes drop another one. If you sell about 30 of those you'll get over 10,000 gil.

Oh, everyone on both of my teams is now level 30-32, and I'm about to buy the second Forgotton Grimoire. I've got the first one and the monograph, so I'm wondering what this next one will do.

I finally finished FFIV Advance a few weeks ago and am now working through FFV Advance. I'm not sure how well I'm utilising the job system at the moment though..is it worth mastering one job then moving onto the next or learning upto about level 4 of a job then moving onto the next?
