That's his puppydog, right?

Yup. Looks like a doberman or something.:thumb:

Did you beat him yet? The Phantom Train isn't much compared to some other bosses in the game.

I used to think Ultros was so hard when I was little, because Terra kept on dying and I didn't know how valuable the fire spell was.:thumb:

I remember my first FF boss. So much fun.
It was the first one in VII.

when Barret says "attack while it's tail up, it'll counter attack" I thought that meant I had to hit it. Cue me dying.

MAthiAS
07-21-2006, 10:06 AM
I always (and still do) wonder why he tells you to attack.

I remember when I bought VII they were like 'you can get the strategy guide 20% off' and I was like 'wtf is a strategy guide' and somehow I ended up buying it though. Its funny that it has like zero help against Emerald Weapon. They're just like, it has 'well over 500,000 hp, so you'll need final attack-revive, and good luck'. It also doesn't tell you where to get Final Attack, nor does it mention the fact that Final Attack-Phoenix is so much more better.

MrConeman
07-21-2006, 10:08 AM
I thought as a kid the game was trying to trick you into getting killed if you didnt listen to his next line "It'l counter attack with its laser", but now being older and wiser I think it must have been a mis-translation or something.

MAthiAS
07-21-2006, 10:11 AM
Well the translation in VII is very ****e..

Lord Abortion

Final Attack-Pheonix you need to have mastered both materia, pretty much.
Otherwise Aire tam storm will rape you.
And never use ultima against him, otherwise he will rape you.

MrConeman
07-21-2006, 12:51 PM
After the first time I played the game when Emerald and Ruby repeatadly raped me, I've never found them hard since tbqh.

Its just a case of getting everything first and being decent at the game. Start the fight with everyone on their limit break (lvl 4 preferably obviously) then move onto W.summon, Knights of the Round, Mime. Have Final attack and Pheonix at the ready as a precaution, wash rinse repeat.

And a buttload of cures and repeats later either one of them will die, its honestly not that hard.

MAthiAS
07-21-2006, 02:32 PM
Those fights were boring as hell. Hardly worth training for them.

MAthiAS

Lionheart1827
07-21-2006, 11:35 PM
For some reason, I liked the Junction system better than the Materia system. I dont know why, I just liked the way it was setup and how the GF's and Junctions affected your stats.:thumb:

I just wished that there was a weapon system in FF8 rather than like 4-5 weapons per person throughout the game.

Phaedra
07-22-2006, 03:50 AM
I liked the way they tried to create a 'negative effect' from using the GFs, losing your memory. I think Squaresoft could have developed the whole concept slightly more, but still it was a nice touch.

I certainly wouldn't mind seeing the Junction system appear again in an edited format.

I'm also more of a fan of the ability to use summoned creatures with anybody rather than just one or two characters. The whole relationship with between summoned creature and character system makes sense to me. Makes sense that Shiva wouldn't want to be assigned to the same person as Ifrit. Really I think VIII was the best FF game for summoned creatures, even the Boost function was nice, at least I thought it was.

Sorry I haven't posted in here in awhile guys, I guess I forgot about it after I stopped using my Liberi account. Plus I've been lusting after XII, Okami and Xenosagas 3. :p

Lord Abortion
07-22-2006, 04:57 AM
Yeah, VIII's system was much more in-depth and important to the actual game and story than most others along the way.

I'm finding Terra after she went all esper-y on VI.

I would've liked there to be a kind of multiple storyline with the GFs depending on how much you use them. Like if you didn't use them that much you'd remember more.

Phaedra
07-22-2006, 05:38 PM
Yeah it would have been nice to have an in-game effect based on your GF usage, as I said they developed that whole sub-plotline, but they could have done more with it.

Edgar because Chainsaw is awesome, and Cyan because he owns.
I don't use Sabin becuase using his moves is hard, and I don't use Gau because he can't fight properly, I never used Setzer, either, but Celes is useful, but Terra has all her magic power, really.

Well, it is usually, I'm at the point where the Empire troops all withdraw and I have to go and persuade the Espers to stop ****in' everything up...if I could find the damn town I'm supposed to leave from, that is:mad:

I love how Street Fighter is very fast paced compared to 3D fighting games. I can't stand the stupid like 'super combos' and million other same kind of things in the newer ones.

And I think DOA is pretty sucky.

I could have done it easily if I had pheonix...Life 3=Auto life, revives me after Ultima, but I accidentally left it on Terra when I chucked her out (in order to make way for Mog and his moogle charm, no-encounters:)) and therefore I had to keep scanning, and Summon Palidor when he was down to 200hp, as that's all it takes off with Jump.

Lord Abortion
07-26-2006, 09:29 PM
It's a pretty short, and fairly straightforward game, I like the storyline alot.
The characters are pretty great. Edgar is very cool, Setzer dresses awesomely, and the general character development is very well done.
There are too many characters, though...

There are alot of cool moments, like in Narshe, when Locke picks the locks on the houses and winks at the rest of the party.
It stands out as a very individual moment in the FF series, for me.

This was my only real problem with the film, all my other issues, like The Turks being made fools of the entire time, Sephiroth barely being in it, and so few locations from the game in the movie, all of those I can forgive.

But making the main characters of the game take a back seat, that was cruel

I hope Dirge of Cerebus (I beleive all the characters are in that, not just Vincent) kind of reveals more of the other characters stuff too, and doesnt repeat Advent Childrens mistake of making them very minor characters.

i am going to buy that today. my freind has it and i got all the character and am only at level 16. requires a lot of training in order to beat the bosses though. you have to train and fight a lot and here is a tip. when the alchemy pot is finished mix the Iron Nails and Bronze knife and also mix iron nails with the boomerang early in the game. those are two vital peices of equiment the thiefs key and the reinforced boomerang. beleive me they help early on.

I've seen 2nd hand copies of FFVII and FFVIII in Gamestation in Bristol being sold for £24.99 each, they're platinum versions of the games so the £24.99 price tag is £5 over the RRP for PS1 Platinum games from back in the day (£19.99)

Ruby and Emerald are pretty much a cake-walk if you put the time in.
Start the battle with all 3 of your party's limit breaks.
have Pheonix-Final attack equiped on someone.
w.summon - Knights of the Round
Mime.

Wash rinse repeat.

Lord Abortion
08-15-2006, 11:34 AM
Yeah, I know this, but mime is erratic. And you have to remember to take counter attack off, as otherwise it breaks the chain and the character just mimes the counter.
I managed it easier last time through. But even with mastered final attack-Phoenix, 6 ATS attacks will kill you.

In IX theres a piece of land near Dagueroo where you can level up quite well, I'm pretty sure you need to look out for Green Dragons that are weak towards Ice, when killed they give you somewhere between 36,000 and 50,000 EXP points.

The music in both of the games are so atmospheric.:thumb:

Are all of the star ocean games tied together. Or are they seperate stories like Final Fantasy?

/Hope that made sense.

They are connected, BUT, by hundreds/thousands of years. I believe SO3 takes place centuries later. Other than solar system/planet/galaxy names that show up in the SO3 built in encyclopedia(theres a encyclopedia that logs every word in the game and categorizes it into races/worlds/names/etc and it tells you everything there is to know about it). They aren't truly tied in, and you dont really need to play the others to play SO3.

Really? Seems a bit unfair that they charge you even if you dont play. Although I suppose they dont exacty care whether you do or dont, much like gym membership.

Happy

I guess they have to. They can't really charge on how active your account is.
