So, I was playing FF8 yesterday before I went to sleep and I was just messing around on the items.
Mind you, my characters are like 16, 15, 14 and I haven't saved in 2 hours. And I accidentally hit "Magic Lamp".....
It made me mad.

I was wondering, how long did it take for some of you to finish FF7? I'm about 30 hours into it and I'm almost at the end of disc 2.
And are 8 and 9 any good?
Thanks

It took me about 60 to 70 to beat VII.
VIII and IX are equally as great as VII IMO

took me about 80 hours to beat FFVII. The first time beating FFVIII, took me about 60 hours, but now have it down to about 35. IX took me about 70-80 hours to beat.
agree with FlyingPaul
also, I always use the magic lamp right when I get it, like lvl 11 or whatnot, you get the right junctions and you can make your chars pretty beefy. When I fought Diabolos at lvl 11 or 12 (whenever you get it) Squall had around 1200HP, so it was pretty hard to kill him off. Also, I kept them both in yellow and used my limits over and over, he actually goes down pretty quick.

its always a good idea to kill diablos as soon as you get the lamp, because it has great abilities. also, when you cast demi at it (not casting through drawing), he casts curaga at you, making the battle eaaaaaasy
selphie helps a lot in the battle, cos sometimes she can cast aura 3 times with her limit

8 and 9 are fine. 9 is better in my opinion but i cbf explaining. 7 is the most popular and best of them all. that should remain like that forever. no need for explaining that. :) . majority of the ppl like it most.
btw. quina pwnz :P
I've started breeding Chocobo's, I'm close to getting a Blue/Green one at the moment.
I never knew it was so hard/long/boring/expensive to do :(

You cant die vs Diablos, im almost certain about that. Since his attacks are all grav based, it can only severly hurt you, not kill you. And due to this, it wont matter when you fight him, its going to be the same type of battle no matter when
Plus he was easy,
I completed him with Laguna and co if I remember...
^Oh he can kill you, I've been beaten by him many times in the past.

they're not re-making it, but they're making a series of sequals, but not ff style. they're making a movie 'advent children', a game 'dirge of cerberus' (a 3rd person shooter on ps2 with vincent as main character), and some game for the mobile, which i presume is only for japanese mobiles.

I did it once. I forgot exactly where you had to go for each stone, but you never left the village. I don't think there was any reward for it though, except a few flashbacks to when Laguna was in the Shumi Village. In my opinion, it wasn't worth the trouble, unless you want to know as much about the story as possible.

I'm playing through FFIX at the moment. I love it. One of the better FF games. I seriously misjudged how good it was compared to the others. I now think it's easily up there with FFVII. One of the best. I never completed it the first time I tried, I got as far as that place that looks like it's made of ice or crystal, on the last disc, I think it's fairly close to the end of the game. I hadn't powered up to my liking which annoyed me and made me bored. I'm currently rectifying that situation. I'm about to leave for Burmecia after having won the Festival of the Hunt.

and who was your (as in all of you who read this) favourite character throughout all final fantasies?
mine would be vincent

Play FF3/6 for SNES, my favorite of ALL FF's. Cyan is the italian looking guy with the ponytail. His special ability is SwordTech.

Vivi and Mog, both for their "Look at us we're so cute RARRR YOUR FACE IS ON FIRE!" type of thing going.
Squall, Zell, Vincent, Sabin, Edgar, Locke, Setzer... the list goes on forever.
And wasn't Zidane a clone of some kind? I think that counts as a backstory.

that's quite funny, cos he's a samurai which is the closest any character in ff6 got to being japanese. he still looked a bit italian...
there has to be another ff made which has the same amount/more characters than 6. i loved the last dungeon and the phoenix cave where you separate your characters into several parties.
i was very dissapointed in 9 when the character split into 4 parties, but all you did was fight a boss with one of them :upset:

FF3 in the US is FF6 in japan. The true FF1 and 2 were released in the US on FF Origins and 3 still hasn't seen the light of day in the US.
so it basically went like this:
FF1-japanese originally, released in the US on the FF Origins disc
FF2-japanese originally, released in the US on FF Origins as well
FF3-still only japanese, never has been released in the US
FF4-the US version is named FF2, FF4 is the japanese counterpart
FF5-japanese originally, released on one of the first FF PSX compilations, forgot which one
FF6-the US version is named FF3, FF6 is the japanese counterpart
The rest of the FF's after that were released equally in Japan and US. The reason the original FF's werent released in the US is because the subject matter was way too adult for the US audience(at least thats what Nintendo of America said). :thumb:
And yes its very confusing. :thumb:

Don't know about Emerald, but you cannot beat Ruby weapon without using KOTR. Nothing else even damages him good enough.
*SPOILER! SPOILER! SPOILER!* Oddly enough, to get KOTR you need to Gold Chocobo, but you get a Gold Chocobo for beating Ruby.... it's like a Catch22 thing, only you can get a Gold Chocobo beforehand... thus rendering the prize useless.

You beat Ruby without KOTR???????
What did you use to attack him? I really want to know.
The 9999 attack is from Emerald. Of course, there's a little known trick to it. The damage is based on materia held by your characters. So, if you equip no materia on anyone, it won't damage you at all. Of course, that's a bit unrealistic if you plan on surviving the fight. With the minimum amount of materia needed, you'll only end up getting around 2000-3000 damage from the 9999 attack.

Wow. Lucky 7's? Nice break. The materia I used against him was KOTR and some attacking materia (4x cut).
Dazers. And lots of 'em. That's how I took him down. I kept throwing dazers after almost every attack. Also W-summon with KOTR (Knights of the Round). Not to mention Mime, to copy the W-summoned KOTR. With your third member (who isn't attacking) equip healing materia, time materia, and the enemy skill materia which if you learned a couple of the really good defensive ones like Big Guard they will really come in handy. Ruby is a b*tch.
Edit: Oh yea, forgot to mention, like FlyingPaul said, go into battle with two characters dead. This will save your characters from being whirled away from the start. Then he can summon Phoenix and you're good to go.

Like I said, it's been a long time since I did it, but I'm positive I did it without KoTR. If I remember correctly I used Ultima weapon, Ribbon, and that armor with 50% evade. Pair Bahamut Zero with HP absorb and Mime it to all hell. Make sure that you haste/regen yourself and slow him and that your other 2 party members are dead. Also be sure the first time around that you target his tentacles rather than his main body. That way it targets his tentacles every time they come out. The only unfortunate part is that Bahamut Zero is such a long summon that it takes forever.

Ah, but getting enough stars in the thing to actually use it against the weapons (why it's there in the first place, IMO) is half the battle! But yes, those things are ALOT tougher if you're only in your 50's or 60's and KOTR only has 2 stars in it... and only have one mime...

Using Knights of the Round at all sucks period. It would just totally cheapen it to me. What I used was Demi/quadra magic (or whatever. Double magic? I don't remember) and mimed it. Takes a lot more effort and strategy to beat them without KoTR.

Well, I'm going to have to try that! The last time I played it was two years ago, I believe, and I've been itchin' to play it again. I do remember that besides KOTR, which I only used to attack Emerald and Ruby, magic was useless, because of the unbalancing issue at the end of the game at higher levels (where all your characters attack for like 9999 points).
Knights of the Round is really fun to use on the enemies surrounding the Midgar area... haha.

Next, I think I made the Green put it in his mom(The Blue) to get a black. Then I breeded them again to get 2 blacks. I just breed the 2 blacks to get the Gold.

people always say that there's a way in VII to be able to keep Aeris, and to sacrifice another one of your girl characters, and they insist that they've done it. I've never seen it, and it sure sounds like B.S to me. If anybody has done it or seen it been done, tell me how, because that would be quite interesting. I still think it's B.S though... right?

I think overall 7 is best. All the FF games rock, but 7 has been my fav outta all of em. Square Enix should remake 7. They should just make it with better graphics and sound n stuff like that. Gameplay does'nt need to change. Do you think that new Durge of Ceribrus will be n e good? It looks pretty sweet. Vincit was a cool character.

Hell Masker is cool. Even if its the most unreliable one, and normally is used against enemies that seem to eat fire too often.

I have Faith in FF XII coming out and FF as an MMORPG is great, but that's my opionion.
And don't forget you have FF:BC, FF: DoC, and FF VII: AC coming out so hopefully that'll rekindle the flame that is FF.

The funny thing about FF X-2 is I remember back in the day my friends and I used to pray that they'd make a sequel to some of the FF's. It's just too bad they had to do it to one of the weaker FF's. I wish they had made follow ups to FF4, 6, 7, 9 and just did something cool. Especially 4 and 6.

6 and 7 were my favourites. I liked the storyline of 8 but the gameplay was ...... different (sux). And I liked 10's lvling system but the movement was kind of limited and such. Oh, and I'm getting a ps2 for 50$ today

i really liked it. the characters were great - much better than the ones of 8. the only problem with it though is the speed of the game - it takes a really long time to finish one battle. still, the story and the graphics are good, and it has an awesome soundtrack. i love 'melodies of life' and 'vamo alla flamenco'

I would have to say the best FF would have to be 4 (first was released as 2 but then re-released and 4 with crono triger) its story line is the best one out of every Final Fantasy the play was great, its just an all around great game.

I don't believe Tactics is a remake of FFII. They're done in totally different styles. Tactics, like it's name imnplies, is a tactical strategy game, while FFII is an RPG/Adventure game.
I believe Origins is FFI and FFII adapted for Game Boy. I'm not quite sure, but that's what I remember, anyway.

For sure....or atleast sequel a DECENT final fantasy! I didn't mind the final fantasy x lvl system but I heard they took it out for x-2(yeah, let's get rid of possibly the only good feature of the game besides the speech and amazing gfx)

I think FF8 is a great game...but there's just something about it (which I can't put my finger on) that makes me think that ff9 < ff8 in storyline (and possibly graphics) where as ff9 > ff8 (Magic system, characters, upgrading system, blah blah every thing else.)
