True, but Odin is pwnage.
indeed...he has to be my favorite summon, next to bahamut zero.
has anyone played the super mario RPG?
if so, i know you noticed the final fantasy references and that boss. You know, the one with the crystals, the FF4 boss music and fanfare?
EDIT: i didn't notice this stuff until way later when i realized square had made it and then i played it again.

best summon: Odin from FF7.
worst summon: The chocobo one from FF7.
It felt so good to pound them into dust.
Zorn & Thorn were ****ing gay.
They were amusing yet annoying.

Every status effect, hoo hah! And he worked on bosses too!

I remember when my FFVII disc 3 was seriously screwed up. It froze everytime at the scene where Tifa and Cloud are outside the airship. It was unbelieveably annoying. I had to borrow my friends disc 3. Lol.
I remember having the rom the FFIV, i got stuck on this boss somewhere...
I just realised, the Brothers GF from FF8 was awesome.
This page is good: http://www.ffquest.com/ff8guardian.html
Brothers weren't that great.
They were annoying to fight and get though.

not to mention a cool FMV. Rarely does bahmunt get so badly owned.
Still, biggest summon owning = Odin in 8. Seifer's only cool moment
That was awesome.

actually, that has to be the best in-game FMV i've ever seen, such an awsome battle between awsome, summons (eidolons, gfs, what have you)
You have to have Eiko in your party, and not Dagger or Armarant.
Go to Maidan Sari (Only when the mist is around) and you talk to Lani.
She says "There's some writing in that cupboard over there" (where you got the memory earing) It says something, so you go to the Eidelon wall and walk round a certain number of times, after this you're able to view all of the Eidelons and their messages, it finnishes off a cool story point too

SPOLIER-ISH
Yeah, like anyone here has to worry about spoilers now :p
But during the fight with Seifer in Lunatic Pandora, Odin appears at the start (if you got him in that place-where-you-get-him). Seifer waits for him to charge with his instant kill attack, then just simply slices Odin in half in Odin's style.
But then, later in the battle, Odin's replacemement (name?) appears and smites Seifer down

That's what mine did, i had a demo disc which would load a save game onto your memory card and that would start you on the second disc during the Laguna story.
On VII ive just recovered Cloud after the Mako poisoning and im trying to get Yuffie (i forgot to get her) she just wont show up. I messed up twice and she ran away with my money.
The first time i bought VII i had an Xplorer so i put the cheat in to allow you to have Sephiroth on your team, but when you talk to someone and the whole party comes out Sephiroth doesn't so the game just freezes. I had him saved on my game too, so i got so annoyed i sold the Xplorer.

I never bought FFX. I saw it at a friend's house. It didn't capture my attention in the same way as FFVII did. Plus the lack of a world map put me right off. I doubt I'll ever buy it. Or XI for that matter. The series peaked at FFVII I think.

I had Vincent with his limit bar flashing, it really sucked when he had little to no MP left rendering him unable to cast Ice2 and unable to use normal attacks.

I beat Emerald badly, so I haven't bothered with Ruby. Had three Mimes equipped, Cloud having W-Summon, Knight of the Round linked with HP Absorb, and Red with Final Attack-Phoenix. I casted it fourteen times, with Emerald only getting three single hits of 4000 off. Absorbed 9000 HP every cast, which were two in a row, so I was set.
And it seems like lots of people use the Cloud, Red, Cid party.

Just got back from work.
How do you think FFVIII could of been improved to be made a better game?
I think it would of been a very good game if the Magic (Draw) system wasn't so ****, and the storyline didn't primarily revolve around Squall and Rinoa's relationship.
In my opinion, there are numerous ways in which it could be bettered.
#1: If they made it a tad easier, the spaceship part was laughable.
#2: Character development, I mean, honestly, who the **** cares about Squall and Rinoa's relationship? I knew I wanted some more development in Zell and maybe Irvine.
#3: The weapon system, and how you learnt new skill.s What the hell was that about!?
#4: Limit breaks, one word "Bollocks".
#5: Storyline, sure, it was decent enough, but to be honest, FF9 and FF7 pissed all over it.
#6: Transportation, The airships were cool, but I hate the whole ethic of "Running out of fuel" when you're in your car, it's annoying and unneccesary.
#7: Music, I know it's not very important, but there was one stand out piece of music, the world map theme.
#8: Some graphics, allthough this could be said about numerous other FF games, were slightly patchy, don't get me wrong, they were decent enough, but they could have been a lot better.
#9: Ammount of characters you could obtain, compared to the likes of FF6 the characters available were poor, and generally boring.
#10: Lack of adventure early on in the game, it's ok I suppose, but could be miles better.
#11: The opening sequence (Not the FMV), were you're in Balamb and SeeD, man was this crap?!
Some may think I'm going over the top, but I'm not.
I genuinely didn't like this game, so much I stopped playing it altogether when I was in space.

Yeah, i agree with all of the points that you made there.
The space bit has to be one of the worst FF bits ever. It was so damn boring and wasn't really needed in the story.
O.K so here's Cait Sith's interesting and cool limit breaks:
Cait Sith
1,Lucky Dice:Throws two to six dice, totals added up, multiplied by 100,200, 300, or 400, and enemy takes that much damage.

O.K so here's Cait Sith's interesting and cool limit breaks:
Cait Sith
1,Lucky Dice:Throws two to six dice, totals added up, multiplied by 100,200, 300, or 400, and enemy takes that much damage.
2,Toy Box:Item at random dropped from toy box onto a single foe.
3, Toy Soldiers:Small army of toy soldiers attack all enemies for fairly heavy damage.

The FF9 one is better, in my opinion.
It's up to you, don't EVER get the FF8 one, unless it's the world map one.
And yeah, Joker Death was a sucky limit break, it was a cool novelty thing though.
What I really never understood about FF7 was the optional characters, Vincent, Yuffie and Cid all had more storyline significance than Cait Sith who was a character you had to choose

Who was "Badass"? Barret?
Of course.
And they just needed someone to fill in for "Shinra spy." They didn't really care if the character was good or not. I hate the stupid thing. Who the hell fights with a megaphone?
And Cid's not optional, is he?
He was yeah, and ironically..he's the best character in the game.

Next to Cloud and his Omnislash. I only managed to beat the Battle Arena reliably by Miming that over and over, since I forgot to get Ribbon the last time playing.
Did you ever get the KOTR summon materia?
If you have mime equiped you can take Sepiroth out without even a scratch.

Yep.
Oh, and level 3, as well.
Hmm, Emerald and Ruby weapon have over 1,000,000 HP I heard somewhere, is that true?
Otherwise, good tactics.

I attempted the weapons and failed miserably.
I found Emerald a lot easier, even though they were virtually exactly the same.

Considering each hit did 8500 points of damage or so, there are 13 Knights, and I cast it at least 14 times (I stopped watching after the second), it's safe to say Emerald has well over 1,000,000. Ruby, I don't care enough to try.
And if you do try, keep in mind you get 50,000 Exp and Ap for beating Emerald. For some reason I thought you didn't get any, so I used final weapons for Red and Cloud, Cid, too, I think. Lost a lot of leveling for some materia. But you do get Master Magic, Summon, and Command from Emerald. Sweet.

In my opinion, there are numerous ways in which it could be bettered.
#1: If they made it a tad easier, the spaceship part was laughable.
I don't understand. You mean harder? If so, take on Omega
#2: Character development, I mean, honestly, who the **** cares about Squall and Rinoa's relationship? I knew I wanted some more development in Zell and maybe Irvine.
I liked the story, development in other characters would've been nice as well, but seeing Squall change wasn't bad.
#3: The weapon system, and how you learnt new skill.s What the hell was that about!?
I'll agree with this one.
#4: Limit breaks, one word "Bollocks".
So, Renzokuken, Duel, and Angel Wing (If you know how to use it right...) were crap?
#5: Storyline, sure, it was decent enough, but to be honest, FF9 and FF7 pissed all over it.
Story is down to preference, but I didn't think 7 and 9's stories "pissed" all over it.
#6: Transportation, The airships were cool, but I hate the whole ethic of "Running out of fuel" when you're in your car, it's annoying and unneccesary.
You hardly need to use the cars anyway. I don't know what to tell you if you actually used them to get from town to town.
#7: Music, I know it's not very important, but there was one stand out piece of music, the world map theme.
Thats it? You didn't even like the boss theme? I think 8 displayed some of Nobuo Uematsu's best work.
#8: Some graphics, allthough this could be said about numerous other FF games, were slightly patchy, don't get me wrong, they were decent enough, but they could have been a lot better.
I think you might be forgetting when this game was released.
#9: Ammount of characters you could obtain, compared to the likes of FF6 the characters available were poor, and generally boring.
Well there aren't 44 like in Chrono Cross.
#10: Lack of adventure early on in the game, it's ok I suppose, but could be miles better.
The Dollet Invasion is pretty early on. I wouldn't say that that was a lack of adventure.
#11: The opening sequence (Not the FMV), were you're in Balamb and SeeD, man was this crap?!
I think you'll find that many people see FFVIII's opening as one of the best openings in FF history.
Some may think I'm going over the top, but I'm not.
I genuinely didn't like this game, so much I stopped playing it altogether when I was in space.
Personal preference I guess.

I think you'll find that many people see FFVIII's opening as one of the best openings in FF history.
Definately the best Final Fantasy intro ever. The game had probably the coolest cutscenes I've ever seen. Can you say, Garden Battle? That whole sequence was amazing. The ending was awesome too. Final Fantasy 3/6's ending was better, but it was very good.
FF8 is my 2nd favorite FF next to FF3/6. FF7 is way overrated imo, still good though. I'm just worried about the direction FF is going now. In the wake of FFX-2 and FF online(not a fan of mmorpgs), along with the fact that FF12's battle system isnt going to be turn based anymore, it makes me wonder, wtf are they doing to the FF series? Hopefully FF12 can rekindle it, but it looks like the main character, once again is going to be even girlier. First it was Tidus' whiny bitch voice, now we have an even girlier looking guy coming in. What happened to the badass characters like Cecil, Sabin, Edgar, Cyan, Cloud, Barrett? :upset:

I wouldn't mind them having a slightly more complex battle system, as long as they keep some strange element to leveling, either materia, skills from IX and the early ones, and not so much the Junction system. Maybe I should give the Junction another try...
But yeah, Grandia II's battle system is by far the best I've ever played. The turn-based mixed with real-time gave it a lot more depth.
And I hope they're not pandering to the new whiny youth that's become trendy...

Wait... FF12 is no longer turn based...?
Bah... ever since it went to PS2 the series has died. I haven't played a Final Fantasy since 9 and I don't care to. 8 was, in my opinion, the beginning of the downfall. 9 was a small attempt that could have saved the series, but Square went in a completely different direction with 10 and is continuing to go downhill.
They should have stayed with Nintendo instead of selling themselves out to Sony. They only produced 1 and a 1/2 good games on Sony's system compared to the many on Nintendo.

What's a good team for FFIX. I usually use Zidane, Dagger and Vivi giving me a physical attacker, a white magician and a black magician but the problem with that is I'm weak physically, I'd never ditch dagger, I need her healing powers, but to ditch vivi means I'm weak as far as black, attacking magic goes. Help me! Whats a good all round team to use?
Zidane,
Steiner or Armarant or Freya,
Vivi or Quina,
Eiko or Dagger.
(The ones that are first are the ones I usually use)
Steiner + Vivi = a lethal combo.
Vivi's magic against Kuja is pretty useless though...
It's a shame really.
Meh, it worked fine for me, seeing as I didn't have anyones arse-kicking weapons or any of that crap.

She's my least used character.
And yeah, who thinks Ozma is hard?
If you know Shock with Steiner you can end that (and all the final battles even the chaos guardians) in around 5 moves.
I ****ing love Steiner!
Especially when he has seiken abilities!
ozma aint hard. all you do is shock with steiner, trance with zidane and summons and healing with dagger, and reflect flare2x with vivi

Help me! Whats a good all round team to use?
have zidane, quina, steiner and eiko, or zid, freya, amarant and eiko
use zidane to steal and use thievery once its strong enough (mine does 5000 damage  ), quina support with mighty guard, angel's snack and white wind, and have eiko use haste, reflect and cure (again for support).
for steiner, just ATTACK!!! don't even stop to heal other characters (why if you have quina and eiko?)
freya, use reis's wind to cast regen on every character (very useful during summons and other looong attacks), white draw for mp for eiko and lancet to attack. freya's just a really good all-round charcter.
amarant should just throw
i never really used vivi that much.. although his auto reflect + reflect damage x2 + return magic combination of abilities kicked butt (not against kuja, as iam jim page said)
The reason I didn't use Freya was because you have Armarant and Steiner, who let's be honest, are both superior.

Vincent was great, can't wait for Dirge of Cerberus.
I saw a trailer for Dirge of Cerberus yesterday and it looks kinda interesting.
It showed Midgar being destroyed like at the end of FFVII, then Vincent running around shooting what looked to be Shinra guards, and there was a quick glimpse of Cait Sith.

Try to use all of the Summon materia you have (excluding weak ones), Neo bahamut and Bahamut are helpful. It's weak against thunder attacks too so use Bolt 3. Comet/comet 2 is helpful aswell. Just keep charging up your limit breaks and it might be good to take the arms out first so it cant pick up two of your characters.Good luck.

its also a good idea to fill your limit gauge fully before entering the battle
I normally end up entering the battle with full limits, everytime I've done that though the boss rapes with with the Lapis Laser twice in a row, giving me no time to heal :(
I'll get him nailed by the end of day, if not you'll all hear about it.

Have you tried pairing "all" materia with your Restore materia so you can heal in one of your characters turns?
I'm not that retarded
I have two char's with Cure-2-All equipped, but the thing is he can do the Lapis Laser twice in a row, before one of my char's gets chance to cast the Cure spell.
I don't have Bolt-3 yet because I suck, I normally hit him with Cloud's Climhazzard, Cid's Dynamite, then hit him with Neo-Bahamut and Bahamut, then get Vincent to transform into Death-Gigas.
Then its just hitting him as hard as I can with Bolt-2 and any other lightning based attacks.
Bah :upset:
I didn't find it that hard, you should have some decent summons and good limit breaks by this point...(?)
I've got Cloud and Vincent on lvl2 limit breaks.

Here's my sad, tragic, and slightly humiliating FF7 story. I purchased it for PC about 4 years ago, and sort of got into it. I bought the BradyGames strategy guide, and got to The Bone Village, and just got bored ( ) This summer, I picked it up again, and I got to the Crater(the 2nd time) but my computer started freaking out, and every time I enter the Crater, it just freezes up before I can get anything accomplished. I tried to get everything on my way there, too. (Chocobos, materia, etc..) So, yeah, that's what happened. Sucks. :upset:
Go buy a Ps1, they cost about £30 these days.

Try and locate some patches for the game, I read somewhere that it was a big buggy and crappy on the PC at times.

i personally thought FFIX was pretty good... i heard a lot of bashing on it though... i thought it was great. the use of 4 characters again was a kick*ss feature, and the characters were all really unique. one of my beggest quarrels about it though was that the guide truly sucked. it told you to go to some website for all the information, and now that website is even gone (or is it? if anyone knows if it's still around with all the final fantasy nine info, please tell me) i've pretty much played all of them through at least 5 times each. Now i'm waiting for XII to com out.

Thats because FF7 runs really weird on newer pcs. Go to http://www.qhimm.com and go to the Boards. It has a lot of useful information like running the REAL music from the PSX version instead of the MIDI music and other fixes to the game. Also discuss FF8 PC. It helped me a lot because I never owned a PSX, and im proud of it. :thumb:
It also has editors where you can rip the cut scene movies from FF8 PC. AWESOME editor. :D
