Apocalypse is a sword for Cloud in VII
You can draw it from Ultimecia's final form. It does 9999 damage to all enemies
I need help. I recenlty bought FF7 again...and I'm stuck at the part where you fight Hojo. He is constantly putting me to sleep and poisoning me. Any easy way to beat him?
Knights of Round?
Just equip the Ribbon other status preventing accessories. It's a pretty easy fight.
Oh, if you equip counter-attack materia, you can counter his every multi-attack move.

if you have a Ribbon, equip it to one character. if you have more than one, equip them to the others (although not very likely). for those who don't have a ribbon equiped, combine the materias 'Hades' and 'add-status' to the armour, to get (nearly) the same effect as Ribbon.
make sure at least one of your characters can use the enemy skill 'Big guard' (learned by manipulating Beach plugs) and use that straight away, you get barrier, m barrier AND haste for all your characters.
then just use your best attacks (ultima, bahamut-zero, limit breaks, 'contain' materia etc.)
anyway, i reccomend everyone here to get this (if you have a GC, that is):

Probably not as well as on an older system. I'd recommend buying the psx version, and then downloading epsxe to run it.

Hey Mathias, did you get your Pod yet?
Nope :upset:
If you allow yourself to learn magic from other classes, calculator is the best class to solo. By far. But if you limit yourself only to abilities directly in class, then monk is best.
Calculator is so broken though, it makes it really boring for me.
I've kind of decided on Samurai, since I've never really used em before. I read up on all these cool challenges at GameFaqs, one sweet one I thought was all mages, Black Mage, White Mage, Oracle, Time Mage, and Summoner in every battle. Straight skill usage.

Did you read about that all calculator challenge? That sounds like it would be insane to me. You can only use calculators, and aren't allowed to learn any abilities not directly in the calculator arsenal.

Calculators are too freaking slow. Each of the enemies gets to move twice before you go once. A speed-boosting accessory is a necessity.

The whole challenge has been done, actually. There's a guide for how to do it on gamefaqs. It's crazy, he talks about spending like an hour making sure your characters are PERFECT. Like, everyone you recruit needs to have just the right brave and faith, and their zodiac sign has to be right, and everything. It's crazy.

Woah, that sounds more hard, tedious work then it would be worth. I'd rather spend the time building up fighters with all kind of insane abilities like a Knight that flies, weilds two Chaos Blades, can't be hit, and jumps all over the place. Calculators are really useful, but only if you can spend the time building up and mastering the spells from lower magic jobs.

if you have any, use ribbons, but i dont think you can have 3 by the hojo fight.
use add-ons that protect against poison and sleep, or you can use esuna constantly, also equip barret with deathblow, it works really well if you get a good shot in depending if your lucky or not, also, if you havent already got it, get barrets best weapon on the stairs just as your going to fight hojo. i forget what its called but i think its in a green chest.
is anybody wants to know how to get as many ribbons as you want, just use morph on a tonberry ( i h8 'em) :p

Double Dare you can only have 2 characters, Ramza and a generic, and they can only use main action, support, etc. skills from one job. You can have them both as different jobs though, and they can use 4 action abilities from another job, also of your choice.
Old School you make your party like that of FFI in jobs and whatnot.

True, they can be very helpful, but I felt the uses of it weren't worth the trouble. I rarely play guitar at my computer, so I prefer something I can just print out and take into my room with me. I also prefer to listen to this song and mimick what's being played instead of watching a screen and hoping it's right.

Yeah, those erasers are such a hassle to use.
Ironically I do tab things at my computer now because I don't have a hard copy of the OST's, and my burner is messed. But its infinitely easier to write down tab with a pencil than with a keyboard. Sure its good to figure out the note values, but its not really worth the effort IMO. Plus I can't play MIDI on my comp anyway.

I don't really think it matters what the thread is named... if you think its more appropriate to have 'community thread' in the title, so be it. It'd be a waste to talk strictly on topic. I said it before, after 500 pages most of what there is to be said about FF has been said.

After all this time we've covered just about anything Final Fantasy-related. All we really do now is compare opinions on various aspects of the game, which often leads us to completely unrelated subjects. That being said, I don't think we were going off topic as much or as badly as people percieve.

There's so many possible names... every sweet town, a few song names would fit, airships, etc. Though I guess it should be something common to all the FFs.
Yeah, I can't wait til I get it though... its so hard to write working non-direct harmonies without recording.
And I'm realizing that Tactics definitely has the most well thought out story of any FF. Just the way its presented, its similar to that of VII's but more involved. There's no comic relief either, which is cool. I think politicians should be required to play it and then write a thesis on it before they can be put into any office.

Does your PC version of VII run good on XP?
It runs perfectly. The problem with FF7 and 8 on the pc concerns modern graphics cards. A lot of cards make the game look all gridlocked graphically during the pre-rendered areas, battles are usually perfect though. If you go to that Qhimm site, and go to the forum you can probably find a thread about it.
The game was created around much older graphics cards and the newer graphics cards tend to mess with the old graphics coding, especially when you add anti-aliasing or anistropic filtering. Makes me MAD.:thumb:
Update: I just checked the forum again and there seems to be a FF7 High resolution patch that one of the users are making so the game can run in 1280X960. I'm not sure if this fixes the gridlock problem but its interesting nonetheless. Also, theres another user that has made a High Rez Cloud model, so instead of the "chibi" cloud on the world maps, you get the more realistic looking "battle" cloud, also a more detailed version of the "battle" cloud. It can be seen here:
http://forums.qhimm.com/viewtopic.php?t=3203&postdays=0&postorder=asc&start=0
(mods I'll edit that link if you dont like the idea of me linking to that forum)

Start by singing a major scale along with your guitar. I usually figure stuff out by singing the notes individually, one at a time, unless there's a common pattern and I can just follow the scale for the most part.
Start with some simple punk stuff too.

you mean like say the notes aloud while your playing the note on the scale? or hum the note while playing the note on guitar?

If it helps you to sing the note, that's cool. I prefer to sing as opposed to hum but I can go higher humming. I think singing is more accurate for me and as a guitarist its just a good idea to be able to sing to make yourself as versatile as possible.
I usually sing vowel sounds as well as singing the notes. Also play and think about intervals. http://www.guitarknowledgenet.com/ has a really good ear trainer for intervals as well.
Also playing piano has helped me a lot with this because my teacher has me sing everything; lyrics, notes, and rhythm.

I ordered PC FFVII and FFVII soundtrack, I'm gonna patch the PC version up, then exchange all the FFVII midi's for .wav's. Since I read on the Qhimm forums that there's a problem with looping .mp3's.
The FFVII soundtrack is brilliant.

Converted like how?
255 is the highest number for all that stuff because 256 is the limit for a byte, so they can store information of 255 on a single byte.

Hexidecimal coding. It's base 16, as opposed to our base 10. So, 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, 7, 8, 9, 0, A, B, C, D, E, F. Kind of like the card values in FFIX. Anyways, that's the language that the games are coded in, and the highest two digit value (FF) is equal to 255 when converted to base 10.
Edit: In reference to the whole 255 = FF thingie.
Edit the Second: Come on, guys! The Black Mages one is the best, it references the music aspect, and isn't targeted at a single game (unlike the Sector 7 Slums one).

Oh and how about just 'The Black Mage Village'. I think that'd be the best name for it, Black Mages feature heavily in the Final Fantasy games. The Black Mage Village is also a good representative of this thread being that it is kind of tucked away in the forums, just like the village in IX. Plus it also encompasses the music side of things with The Black Mages being an FF cover band.
Personally if I sawa thread called 'Ninja Editors HQ Featuring Chaos Blade Baseball' I'd have no idea what the hell goes on in it. But most people would associate Black Mages with Final Fantasy, or at least RPG games.

A. he'll let me borrow it whether he likes it or not
B. if you did send me it the chances of it being returned are VERY slim
oic. You're a thief?

In England we got VI by itself with a demo of FFX, then FF Anthology was IV and V.
Haha I remember the only reason why I bought VI was because it came with that demo, luckily for me it turned out to be one of my favourite Final Fantasy games (VI not X).
FFXII is reviving some of the "gothness" of FFVIII and Vagrant Story. I loved those two games to death, so seeing some of that again would please me to no end.
That's good to hear, after having the overly chirpy Final Fantasy X and X-2 it will be a nice change to have it go for a more dark feeling.
I personally wouldn't object to a bit of the futuristic feeling making a return as well (esque VII and VIII).

I actually agree. The futuristic bit can work quite well, especially when fused with fantasy (FFVI, FFVII).

Just as long as it's not OTT futuristic FFX-2 laser style fighting eh?

I might be wrong, but I think that's in there.

Are you sure? :|
From all the videos or screenshots I've seen they seem pretty unfuturistic, although my memory might be a bit shoddy.

I never did complete Vagrant Story, I'ts a brilliant game, I love it but I never had time for it.
Same, it was pretty cool, but never got round to finishing it.

Anyone seen this yet? My mate gave me a (subtitled) copy, and it's awesome. Millions of times better than spirits within. But that sucked. So what do you guys think of it? Or at least, who else has seen it?

I watched a few minutes of it on my friend's laptop the other day. He said he got it from Limewire.
It looked amazing.

How can XII be a return to the 'gothic' style with another Tidus as the main character...

I saw it, its pretty awesome. If you're a fan of the series, you'll like it, but if you don't know anything about FF7 then you'll be clueless. (but the pictures are pretty!)

I think what put me off of Vagrant Story was the visual style. It looked good, but the colors seemed a little drab. I like the battle system though.

Sector 7 Slums blows, but yours are the polar opposites of profoundness and wit.
