Zack was a friend of Cloud's from when they were both with Shinra. If you recall the cutscene, Zack and Cloud were used in Hojo's experiments with Mako exposure and were kept in huge tubes in the Shinra mansion in Nibelheim. They managed to break out, left the Shinra, and hitched a ride down to Midgar to become merceneries. Shinra soldiers caught up with them just outside Midgar, killing Zack but leaving Cloud. Cloud took his sword and uniform, collapsed at the train station, was found by Tifa, and that's where the game picks up (it actually picks up sometime after, but that was the first time Cloud and Tifa had met in five years).

Jenova was some kind of ancient being. I don't think it was ever made prefectly clear what exactly it was. Hojo did it just as an expermient I think - it might've been an attempt to clone or give birth to another Jenova-like organism, but Hojo was a ****ing psycho so it's tough to say.

Presumably, it was Hojo that impregnated her. The Jenova cells were what caused the child to 'mutate' (not really sure how to describe it, but you know who Sephiroth is) into something more than human. This child was Sephiroth.

Red XIII (Nanaki was his real name) was the last remaining member of his ancient tribe (can't remember what it was called). When another ancient tribe attacked Cosmo Canyon, his father sacrificed himself to protect the Canyon. His mother took him to protect themselves. I can't remember how exactly his mother died, but his father died back in the sealed chamber in Cosmo. He was taken by Hojo and experimented on as the latest Sephiroth clone - hence the number XIII tattoo'd on him. He was called Red XIII by Cloud and the others for obvious reaosns, he was red, and had a XIII on him.

I'm not completely sure about that, but I think it's pretty accurate.

Probably my favorite GBA games of all time is FF Tactics Advance, but otherwise I've never really played any of the "real" FF games (save FF2, which I played on an emulator) The real reason I decided to post in here was because I had a reeeeeally strange dream last night. I was at a Books-A-Million, and there was a copy of FFVII just sitting on the shelves with the books. It was $15.00. I decided to buy it, but for some reason I was thinking I had to pay for it at an EB Games. So I left the store with it, but then I realized I was stealing. Then all of a sudden there were like helicopters and **** chasing me.. Basically the entire dream was me running from the law with my copy of FFVII. I never even ended up playing it.

So, do you think this is an omen? Do you think I should get FFVII?

Both of those games I have never beaten. I love VI and Tactics to death, but I always finish all the sidequests, get to the very end, and lose interest. :( It's terrible.

Man your harsh. I thought Sin was a great villian, and over all I thought the story was interesting and moving. I would personally hate for every single FF villian to be some long haired katana wielding pretty boy. I have alot of respect for SE for not simply pushing out Sephiroth clones for main villians throughout the series.

It wasn't. Clouds mother actually made an "appearance" in FFVII. She told him to settle down and find an older woman to take care of him. This memory, however, was created by the Jenova cells in him. so no, Cloud has no parents.

They didn't add him into her memories. There was a real person named Cloud that she knew from Nibelheim. The Cloud that we know was made to think that he really was part of Tifa's memories. It gets complicated.
