Crap...1 hour 45?

It's going to be far too short.

If, hypothetically, they were ever to make an FFVII film, it would have to be in a lord of the rings style- 3 3 hour films to cram it all in, even then they'd have to cut a chunk...

I don't think so. Maybe if they were making a movie version of FFVII. But this is a movie sequel, so there's really no "required" length for it to be complete, because we don't know what it means for it to be complete.

As for taking out bits of the FFVII story, I'm sure there's a lot that could be taken out. Namely, about 95% of the battles. Seriously, those are such filler. So many boss battles could be taken out that wouldn't seriously effect the story at all.

This is true of all FF games.

MAthiAS
09-07-2005, 03:25 PM

The gameplay of FFVI is setup in such a way that would convert into a more interesting and better (and shorter) movie, even though I prefer VII as a game. Not that VI is anything short of brilliance.

For example, the scenarios of VI would allow for multiple things to happen at once.

I should break you in half and throw you in a wood chipper. :p

But really - I could go on and on about that. To me, new Bodom couldn't have been better considering the style they chose to use. They are no longer power metal, and remembering that is key to enjoying the new stuff. You have to stop comparing AYDY to Hatebreeder and Follow the Reaper and consider it something all new - because that's what it is. I think the new album is incredible. The riffs are amazing, the solos are still orgasmic, the vocals are as bad as I thought they would be (but I'm getting used to them), the lyrics are much better than usual, and the keyboards are there in full force. This release is so original and unique - I've never heard anything like this from any band ever.

Hahah...that was kind of long. :)

My biggest problem is going to sleep late, so I usually sleep for a few hours after school, in time that I would be practicing. I may try to get out of my Art I class for a study hall, even though its the only class I have without loads of crap (besides Law), and the teacher is hot as hell.

Did I mention my lunch starts at 1:30, so doing homework at lunch is not an option for most classes?

Ah, I don't start my real lessons until Monday. I'm kind of dreading the amount of work I'll have to put in. I chose RE, Geology and Music, so I'm kind of hoping they'll be 'easy' options. But I have 15 2000 word essays for RE for starters, just in the first year. No real coursework for it though. No coursework in the first year for Geology, and the only coursework in Music is composing, so I get time to play my bass

You need a Pocketstation to play Chocobo World. The game was tedious and sucked though. I have VIII on the PC, and that comes with Chocobo World for the PC. If you have the Playstation version, there's no Chocobo World.

However, the PS version owns the PC one. My computer couldn't handle the music (I only had sound effects, no music. How dull.) or the cutscenes (they went hella awful looking).

You have to have Odin. When you fight Seifer at the end of the third disc, he manages to kill Odin and soon enough Gilgamesh finishes the fight. Unlike Odin, Gilgamesh will appear whenever the hell he feels like. He uses 4 legendary swords in his attacks:

1. Zantetsuken: Instant kill
2. Excaliber: Strong Holy damage
3. Excalipoor: 1 damage
4. Masamune: High physical damage

Oh well, we went to an Ice cream factory..that makes up for it :D

Andyhainey, you need the GF Odin first, and when you fight Seifer in...disc 3 is it? Odin dies and Gilglamesh appears.

Hey everyone. Haven't posted in a couple days.

So, the H&H is done, huh? Well, I'm glad that Terra outlasted Vivi. Thank you MAthiAS, for healing Terra!

Why is it that Odin seems to be an evolving summon? He becomes Gilgamesh in FFVIII, and Raiden in FFVI. Any other instances of this? None come to mind for me right now.

When would Odin appear? Did something have to happen, or was it random like Gilgamesh?

It took me an hour to find drivers for my sound card which was a bum :(
My computer was slightly unprepared to handle XP, so it took days to transfer everything. Once we reinstalled everything and thought it was good to go, we got a weird virus. Everytime someone tried to log on it would automatically log off...meaning it was impossible to use the computer. It turns out we needed to update BIOS, which meant we had to wait to another few days for our neighbor to do that since everyone (except me) in my family is computer illiterate. It was a long, grueling battle. :(

Random, yeah. He always appeared for the Seifer fight though.

If you didn't get Odin, you don't get Gilgamesh then? So what happens in the Seifer fight?

I'm blessed/cursed with a pretty good work ethic. So, I do my homework right when I get home, which often results in me working from 2:45 to about 10:00 at night, with food breaks in the middle. And then I'm so exhausted, I just collapse. But, it's senior year, so after december or so I don't have to worry about anything!

That was a really good recording MAthiAS. I liked it. I wouldn't have the guts to put up anything I recorded, I'm paranoid people will make fun of it.

One piece of advice, however, if you're still going to edit the song at all. The last section, Legend of the Warrior. It seems a tad monotonous, because you're going to the same note at the end of every arpeggio. If you made a melody out of your climax tones, it would make that part a bit more interesting. Other than that, though, the entire song is very well done, and very creative.

Alright, writing down my thoughts as I listen.

Cool intro, very Opeth style riffing.

I can just taste the DT influence just after it. Cool lead, doesn't stand out too much though honestly. Try raising it in the mix a bit I'd say. Lead tone is awesome.

Really love the part at like 4:00. The riff after it (the one that's been repeated a few times) seems a little our of place though. Awesome part after that.

Sweet part at 6:50, and I like the variation to the riff before it. Again though, it just sounds out of place to me. Maybe it doesn't to you, we've all got different ears.

Outro part sounds screams Metallica instrumental to me.

Impressions after my first listen, I'd say maybe half or a bit more of the riffs strike me as great, killer material. The other half sound good, but don't jump out at me as something special. I'll say though that you did a really good job of moving the piece forward throughout, and its way better than anything I've ever written/recorded.

How were the drums done? And I didn't really hear any bass... was there one, or was it low in the mix? I'd say add some bass melodies to it man, I love that kind of stuff.

Overall very good job, keep it up. And I can tell the effort you put into this thing man, bravo. :thumb:

If you don't have a bass, you can do what I do then. Neck pickup, clean tone, bass at max, mids at 12 o clock, treble at 0, tone knob at zero. Good to go.

I'll usually take a power chord and fool with the notes and whatnot. Flat 5th, sharp 5th, 1-5-7, 1-5-flat 7, etc. Sounds really cool to me, and I'll have the bassline follow with major and minor thirds, 7ths, 5ths, whatever is missing from the chord, or colors well.

FlyingPaul: Start with learning basic (major/minor) scales, key signatures, and basic triad construction. Once you've done that, learn more advanced scales, chords, and harmonization. However, after the basics, try and tailor what you're learning to the style you play. Like, if you're a blues guitarist, you probably won't be using the altered scale. And if you're a metal guitarist, you probably won't be using the lydian scale. If this wasn't specific enough, or if you need more help, feel free to ask for help on here or on AIM (deusexmachina107).

I'm not sure yet, I'm trying to find a good one. But, right now I'm leaning towards a fender jazz fretless, as they're supposed to be good, and they're much more reasonable than other fretless basses I've found. Do you have any suggestions?

nah, the fender jazz is a good choice. I personally <3 ibanez, but ive never played one of their fretlesses. Jazz basses are respectable +1

DeusExMachina

sr800? What's that?

Also, this is a noobish question, but what makes a bass amp necessary? Can I just plug a bass into a guitar amp?

Shadows
09-10-2005, 01:10 PM
No. I strongly adive against that. Bass amps are made specially to handle the low fequency signal of a bass. Guitar amps are not. Plugging a bass into a guitar amp would very well blow the amp. Also, trying to play bass in a guitar amp or guitar in a bass amp always produces a terrible, terrible sound.

I've played many Ibanezes but I could never see what was so great about them. I always thought they looked cheap and had mediocre sound. Meh, whatever I guess. I'm content with my Jackson.

fatbandit
09-10-2005, 01:15 PM
Bass amps can handle guitar.

Guitar amps are often used in a lot of pro bass setups for a bit of added high end, but never rely on one as your main setup. High register stuff at low volume may well be okay for a while, but I wouldn't suggest it.

If you do play both through the same amp, I'd siggest something along the lines of a keyboard amp.

Oy vey. This is looking to be a bigger hole in the pocket than I thought. Are there any decent bass amps for reasonable (around $300, I guess) prices? I don't need a monstrous amp or anything, just something to get by on. Preferably a tube amp.

fatbandit
09-10-2005, 01:24 PM
Right. Ask yourself if this is a gigging amp, or a home practice one. If its a home one, look into the Roland Cube 30 (my recommendation). Plenty loud enough until you're practicing with a band/gigging.

If you're looking for a big gigging amp, you're going to want at least a 100W methinks, and for that price, look second hand.

I suggest you check around eBay. If it's a home practice then then $300 isn't bad. But if you're looking for something with outrageous power or something to gig with, than $300 would be extremely tight.

I'm quite a n00b when it comes to brands and models of amps, so unfortunately I can't help you.

Well, look for a Peavey? Often quite easy to find second hand, and are reliable workhorses for the most part.

But yes, the biggest factor is what you're going to be using it for. If you can narrow that down, I can help more.

DeusExMachina

I have a Peavey classic 30 guitar amp right now, and I love it.

I'm not going to be using the amp for gigging much (not yet, at least), but I'd like to have something with decent power. The classic 30, for instance, is a great practice amp, but it has also got enough power for small gigs.

fatbandit
09-10-2005, 01:46 PM
Right. Any amp is enough for a small gig. ANY. As long as the venue uses a PA system, you can mic up/DI the amp to it, and the soundguy does the rest.

For home use, a small amp would also be fine.

Its only in band practice situations, where there's no sound tech, no huge PA, etc, that you'll need the extra noise.

Its always nice to have a bigger amp though :)

No, but its one of the best SS amps out there. My recording was done with my Cube 15.

At least its good for metal, I don't know what kind of tone you're looking for.

fatbandit
09-10-2005, 02:22 PM
The Roland amps are all very good, and mine has a tube simulator. Obviously not as good as the real thing, but it adds some warmth and stuff anyway.

The thing is, with bass amps nowadays, there is sometimes only the tiniest difference in tone between SS and tube, with the technology in some of these amps.

And my Roland also has a tremendous amount of tonal versatility. The Cube has a bunch of inbuilt effects if you're into that stuff too.

Behringer are cheap, especially second hand. I've not played one, but I've had several mixed reviews. Some say no problems, but an equal number seem to say it broke easily and quickly. I guess its all down to the amp. If you buy Behringer, I'd definitely try it first.
