yeah, some one retell FFVII. That one I didn't really piece together because of my absence of playing it.

Ok well maybe it would take more than that...but perhaps someone can post a nice link to a place that does explain it (storyline).

DeusExMachina
08-22-2005, 10:11 PM
hahaha...I always feel like an idiot (it's all in being a noob). But I'm really confused....someone should devote 30min of their time to tell the entire storyline of the FF games (be brief).
Which have you beaten? You tell us what you've beaten, and we can all summarize games that you haven't beaten.

/calls FFVI preemptively, in case Vincent hasn't beaten it.

FlyingPaul_83

For tactics?

the story in tactics is very confusing. I only have the meat of the story, not all the extra decieving and double crossing.

please don't do VI cause i haven't beaten that one :(

VII - X-2 are fine.

MAthiAS

Dibs on FFT (even though I still don't completely understand it, that story is so complex)

That's why Tactics has such GREAT replay value, I never remember the story's intricacies.

-:Vincent:-
08-22-2005, 10:12 PM
eh.......let's see I havn't even played all of them. Beaten 6,7, and 8 heh...thats about it.

DeusExMachina
08-22-2005, 10:12 PM
I might be able to help a bit with Tactics, because I'm in the middle of a game. However, that game is so confusing, it's really really hard to follow. Especially since the translating was pretty subpar in places.

-:Vincent:-
08-22-2005, 10:13 PM
anyone know any good sites...?

MAthiAS

Mathias....you are a guy right?

FlyingPaul_83
08-22-2005, 10:14 PM
yeah like every scene someone gets killed and you're like "was he important?", and then you find out he was vital for the hokuten and now the war will rage on only if this man is killed, then there will be no food supply. and these guys poison you at the beginning of battle.

those are just examples I chose , they don't go together. (or do they???)

so confusing yet so awesome.

MAthiAS

Yeah.

Oh yeah and in Tactics there's all the extra books and things you get from Propositions and stuff, and the history stuffs, I never read all of it. (never read Germonic Scriptures either)

I read the germonik scriptures, but they were very long and it was at like 2 in the morning, so I didn't understand it all too well.

Since you've beaten VI, I'm willing to do IV. Unless Red Barchetta wants to do IV, I'd imagine he could do a better job than me.

how you can always load your game before the last fight and go do side quests and stuff. How you can't save after beating the final boss.
Actually, its weird with Tactics. There is a series of battles before the final one, and you can save and manage troops between each battle. But make sure you don't save over your main/only file in between the battles, because you cannot get back out. You could even not be strong enough and be totally stuck.

The series is at Orbonne, so you know ahead of time. :thumb:

If you've done many side quests at all, you should be okay. If not, go back to your outside save file and level some more.

I'm off to watch That 70s Show... see you guys in an hour or so. :)

FINAL FANTASY VI PLOT SUMMARY PART ONE: WORLD OF BALANCE

The story starts 1000 years before the game takes place. Magic is everywhere, thanks to people harnessing the powers of espers, beings of pure magical energy. However, there is a great war between the humans and the espers, the war of the magi, in which havoc is wrought and the world is left in ruin. The espers end up leaving the human world, and sealing themselves in their own world (which has a very awesome theme song).

Almost 1000 years later, the leader of a mighty empire, a man known as Gestahl, discovers a way to, on a limited scale, use magic, a power that has been lost to humans since the war of the magi. Could this be the start of another great war?

Now we're at the point where the game begins. An esper frozen in ice is found in a small coal mining town known as Narshe. Gestahl sends an attack force of three soldiers to confiscate and take the esper. These three are in magitek armor, which is armor that has been infused with magic. Two of the soldiers are ordinary men, Biggs and Wedge, (who are in most FF games, and are also pilots in Star Wars: A New Hope) but the third soldier is a woman without a name who is blessed with the power to use magic. The three easily dispatch the forces of Narshe, and go to the esper. The esper starts reacting strangely, and makes Biggs and Wedge disappear, presumably killing them. The mystery girl is knocked unconscious.

When the girl wakes up, we discover that her name is Terra, and that she was being controlled by a slave crown placed on her by Kefka, Gestahl's top goonie. Soldiers come and try to kidnap her, so she escapes with a "treasure hunter" by the name of Locke, who's a member of a resistance group called The Returners. Together, Terra and Locke escape to Figaro Castle (as well as with the help of Mog, who is one cool moogle). Locke and Terra meet Edgar, the king of Figaro Castle. He pretends to be loyal to the emperor, but is in fact a member of the Returners. Kefka shows up and demands that Edgar give him Terra. Edgar denies having Terra, so Kefka tries to torch Figaro Castle. But, Edgar is a tech freak, and Figaro Castle can submerge into the surrounding desert, which puts out the fire. Meanwhile, Edgar escapes with Terra and Locke and they head to the Returners hideout.

In the town of South Figaro, you run into a man known only as Shadow, who "owes alliegance to no one, and will do anything for money. He comes and goes like the wind..." He also, apparently, would "slit his grandmothers throat for a nickel." He's pretty cool, but plays no part in the story as of yet.

Moving on, the party travels over Mt. Kolts to get to the Returners hideout. There, you meet a man named Vargas, a martial arts master. He accuses you of trailing him on the orders of Sabin, who is Edgar's twin brother. You didn't, but you get in a fight with Vargas. He pwns your party, but then Sabin shows up and defeats Vargas. Apparently, Vargas' father was a martial arts expert who trained both Sabin and Vargas, and Vargas was jealous of Sabin because he thought Sabin was his father's favorite. Sabin then joins your party.

You also learn at some point (I actually think it was earlier, but don't remember for sure) that Sabin and Edgar flipped a coin to see who would be king, and Sabin won the coin flip. However, he fled from the position, choosing to be free over being king. The coin used has is heads on both sides, one side the head of Sabin and the other side the head of Edgar. This will come into play later.

Finally, you end up at the Returners hideout, where Terra agrees to help the leader, a man named Banon. They decide to go to Narshe to talk to the esper there and see if it can help them prevent the war or something, so they go on a raft. However, on the raft, disaster strikes in the forum of Ultros, an amusing (and annoying) octopus that you fight several times, this being the first. Your party gets split up into three groups, each with different scenarios.

SCENARIO 1:
Locke gets split up from the group, and ends up back in South Figaro. There he meets Celes, a woman who is a general for Emperor Gestahl's army. She was infused with magic at birth, and was given the ability to use magic unnaturally. However, Celes was arrested as a traitor, because she doesn't approve of the tactics used by the Empire. Locke takes Celes with him to Narshe. When asked why he is helping her, he says because she reminds him of someone (that someone being Rachel, the woman he loved, but who died).

SCENARIO 2:
Nothing particularly exciting here. Banon, Terra, and Edgar make their way to Narshe, and meet up with Arvis, a fellow Returner stationed in Narshe.

SCENARIO 3:
Sabin meets up with Shadow, who decides to travel with him. Meanwhile, in the kingdom of Doma, we see Leo, a general of Gestahl, setting up forces. Doma is opposed to Gestahl. Leo is ordered to leave, but tells Kefka (who is there) to not do anything bad. Kefka ignores him, and uses poison to kill everyone in Doma. The only survivor is Cyan, a knight of Doma. Cyan's family and lord die and so, being pissed off, he decides to get revenge on the empire. Sabin and Shadow show up around this time, and help Cyan. They escape by stealing magitek armor, and then ditch the armor and head to Narshe through a forest. This forest contains the obligatory ghost thing (seriously, every game has a ghost ship or a ghost train or a ghost whatever). In this case, it's a train. After finishing that off, they head to an area called the veldt, which is through some waterfall. On their way there, Shadow departs.

On the veldt, Sabin and Cyan meet a strange child named Gau, who was raised by monsters and learns from them. He joins the party. After a very roundabout journey, the three of them make it to Narshe, where a battle seems to be shaping up. Before the battle, Terra and Celes talk about how they both can use magic. Terra asks Celes if she's ever felt love, a very important thing to Terra. Then, everyone fights Kefka to stop him from reaching the Esper. He is defeated and flees. Then, Terra has a weird reaction to the esper, and flies off, changing form into what looks like an esper.

Your party then heads to the town of Zozo, where you meet the esper Ramuh. Apparently, espers can live in the human world as well as the esper world. Along the way you get Shadow back in your party. Ramuh has Terra with him, and says some cryptic stuff about her being different from an esper and other stuff. He then says that many espers are being drained of their powers in Magitek Factories set up by Gestahl, and that they might be able to help Terra recover if freed. You then learn that Getsahl is doing it wrong, and that the only way to truly get the powers of espers is to kill them and extract the power from the magicite, which is their remains. Then Ramuh turns into magicite, and you get your first esper.

The party heads off to free the espers in the magitek factories in order to help Terra. They split up, some of them going to beef up defenses in Narshe, some heading to the Magitek factories. Along the way, They meet a gambler named Setzer and Celes has to impersonate an opera singer. Setzer is infatuated with Celes, and agrees to a coin toss; heads, he helps them in battle and with his airship, tails, Celes marries him. Celes uses the double headed coin from Sabin and Edgar, and wins the bet.

The party goes to the magitek factory, where they meet Cid, a professor. There, Cid and Kefka learn about magicite, and the party gets more magicite, and then escapes. They revive Terra, who has a flashback. Apparently, a human named Madonna somehow made it to the esper world. There, she and an esper named Maduin fell in love, and had a child. That child is Terra. However, when Terra was two years old, Gestahl found away to break into the esper world, and kidnapped Terra and several espers.

After the flashback, the party head back to Narshe. They talk with people, and then head to the sealed gate of the esper world. Terra opens it, but Kefka is waiting. The espers all escape, and the imperial troops run off. Then the party head to the imperial palace.

At the palace, Cid says he's become a Returner, and Gestahl says he's had a change of heart and wants to help. He says that Kefka has been arrested for war crimes, and that the espers are on a rampage and must be stopped.

General Leo joins the party, and they split up to search for the espers. Shadow also joined the party. Terra, Shadow, and Locke go meet Strago, an old man who's village has a way to use magic without espers. His granddaughter, Relm, is with him. They join the party.

Everyone heads to the gathering place of the espers, a mountain with strong magical properties where it's said all espers originated. There Kefka shows up, and causes chaos, steals magicite, and mentions the three statues, which are statues of the goddesses of magic, from which all magic originates. Kefka kills Leo, and escapes to a floating continent with Gestahl.

Your party chases after them, but Shadow leaves when you reach the floating continent. There, you find your way to the statues. Kefka has found a way to channel the power of the statues, and kills Gestahl. He then rearranges the statues, which messes with the world. He then destroys the world as we know it, leaving it in chaotic ruins. The floating continent starts falling apart, and your party runs to the airship, trying to escape. They make it, with hopefully Shadow making it as well, and escape. However, the airship is destroyed and the party is split up all over the world.

Thus concludes part 1 of my FFVI story write-up. If you have any comments, critiques, etc. please let me know. A lot of the finer details I got from an online story guide, but most of the bulk was from memory, so it may be wrong. Hope this was enough info.

No. The rule is, as soon as anyone joins your party, you kick them out. You may remove equipment, but they can't stay in. Guests must stay in, so they can help you in battles. There are also levelling caps if you run by the guides on gamefaqs, but I never got to high enough levels to exceed them.

Ramza's the only rep from FFT, my second favorite FF game. I'm cool with him living.

But Delita, Mustadio > Ramza.

I think we need to bring Vincent down to Terra and Tifa though Deus.

Ideally, it will come down to Tifa, Vincent, and Terra. From there, the forum will be split up into FFVII fans and FFVI fans. Since there are two FFVII characters, the FFVII fans will be divided, but the FFVI fans will be united, thus securing a victory for Terra.

Songwriting and composition is talent my friend. Yes, Ringo was poor. No, the guitars aren't that technical (but I assure you there's much more theory behind them than A7X), the singing is great, the vocal melodies own, and they are and always will be the biggest band ever, and have done more for music than pretty much anyone. For that alone, you should at least respect them.

IMO their early stuff wasn't great, but their later stuff is 100% genius.

Fair enough. But be civil on this forum. People don't take too kindly to being told that their favorite bands suck. And if your only basis for whether music is "good" or "bad" is talent, then you've got some head straightening to do. How well a band can play shouldn't factor into how much you like them. It's how much you like the music. Against Me! is one of the greatest punk bands ever, (in my opinion) and plenty of people agree, and they're all awful at their instruments, and can't sing at all.

Blink 182 isn't punk... that's pop-punk crap.

And since you keep talking about Ringo, I need to tell you my findings. I just looked up some A7X tabs, and found (as I expected) that the guitar playing for the rhythm is nothing but power chords. And the solos, while I'm sure they're very fast, look pretty simplistic. The theory employed in the Beatles guitar playing, particularly in the latter part of their career, far surpasses what (admittedly small) glimpse of A7X I've seen.

Also, while lyrics are admittedly subjective, saying that all the songs have the same lyrics about love life is just displaying ignorance.

well I don't care about guitars, I'm a drummer, and in no way could the beatles guitar be complicated. I mean some of them maybe but...not very many. and A7X got some of their lyrics straight from the Bible (of course modified).

There's no earthly way of knowing
Which direction we are going
There's no knowing where we're rowing
Or which way the river's flowing
Is it raining? Is it snowing? Is a hurricane a-blowing?
Not a speck of light is showing
So the danger must be growing
Are the fires of hell a-glowing? Is the grisly reaper mowing?
Yes, the danger must be growing
'Cause the rowers keep on rowing
And they're certainly not showing
Any signs that they are slowing!!

The Beatles' guitar involved a good amount of theory though, so the composition is indeed somewhat complex. You want complex guitar though, go listen to Racer X.

I just listened to Chapter Four. I dunno... the drumming in the intro was very impressive, but it's just not my thing.

Well I'm glad you enjoyed the Revrend's drumming :) Ringo isn't that bad....

I couldnt stand DT at first, so i went to Symph X. Took me a long time to finally get into DT. Symphony X I still like better. The vocals are better, imo. :thumb:

Im going to Gigantour in about 11 hours. 2nd time I'm gonna see Symph X and DT live. :thumb:

Black Sabath is good, just overrated. I take it you like Iron Maiden then?

To understand the lyrics to Chapter Four, you should read Genisis Chapter four (thus the name). EVERYONE IN HERE SHOULD GO READ THE BIBLE, IT'LL BE GOOD FOR YOU!

Check out some instrumental stuff then... I'm on such a Racer X kick right now. I'm addicted to Scarified and YRO. And YRO has an excerpt from a Pagannini piece in it too.

Listening to Chapter Four now... Intro was average I guess, honestly the drums don't impress me at all. Catchy chorus, boring verse, standard guitar harmony, yeah okay, nothing special.

Black Sabath is good, just overrated. I take it you like Iron Maiden then?
There's something I agree with. Black Sabbath are very overrated IMO. Maiden pwn them tenfold.

-:Vincent:-
08-23-2005, 01:36 AM
yes the drums are average...but I don't think you understood that when you said it (after all your not the one who's the drummer). But that wasn't his best song...you should hear some of the ride beats he can do...

I'll check out Racer X.

If you all just want to here some incredible instrumental talent, I have some amazing classical recordings. Yefim Bronfman doing Rachmaninov's third piano concerto... wow.

You could upload that for me... if you've got any Chopin and Bach, could you get me some of that too? Always looking for more classical...

-:Vincent:-

Second Heartbeat has a really fast ride beat at around 0:20 seconds....but you might dismiss it as OK. You have to be a drummer to understand how hard/easy things are.

Yeah I'm listening now. The drums are pretty low in the mix, but I suppose they're alright. They're no Flo Mounier though.

Out of curiosity, have you ever listened to Cryptopsy or Mithras?

The drums (for morbid angel) aren't that great....there electronic for the most part....(maybe drum machine....) it sounds fast cause he's using double bass through most of the song, but there are no impressive solo's or anything...

Finish FFI. Then train to beat Ruby and Emerald, because it's faster than playing through all of FFIV again. Then, play FFIV again.
