Why would you waste time reading 100 pages worth of discussion about games you don't even like?

And you say you've determined its a horrible thread, elaborate please? There has been little flaming and generally good discussion.

And you say you've played 10, if you've read the thread you'd know that's one of the poorer FFs.

There is no way to say one FF was better than another. You can say the grfx in X and X-2 were amazing, or the game play in VII was superb. However in my opinion, obviously, there is no BEST. Square thought of it as there last hope..hence FINAL FANTASY.. and out of that last hope came the greatest game saga EVER! and yes i even enjoy returning to mystic quest once in a while

When you think about it, all games are repetitive like that. Every FPS game is similar in gameplay. Sports games... you're playing one sport. Any series or genre of game has its common gameplay similarities, and like each FF game, each game throws a different spin on it.

Its like people criticizing Iron Maiden for having similar sounding songs and solos. If its good, who cares if its similar and 'repetitive'? (I don't like the term repetitive because of its negative connotation...)

And you are missing the stories, which are all unique and awesome (for the most part) in their own ways. FF stories are always always always my main reason for playing them.

If you don't like the gameplay, I guess you probably don't like many other turn-based RPGs, because FF are the best of them. Your problem, because you're missing out on some awesome storylines (and music, and gameplay, and characters, and...)

An understandable point I suppose, but I guess what keeps me coming back to the FF series is the stories, and I understand that there are different types of gamers

1.Those who love to be emersed in a good story, get involved with characters have memorys of the worlds and such, most likely a final fantasy fan

2.Those who like to turn on a game shoot some people and wait for the next shooting game to come out

now those are two extremes of course there are other gamers

and on the FF gameplay, there is much more to it than just menus and spells each game has its own side games, the battling is also fun and much more complex as you go through the game and aquire more things and fight different enemys

(This is in no way a flame, and is all in my opinion, just providing my insight)

EDIT: and also what MAthiAS said

I myself enjoy the deep storylines, the great magic/attack animations, and large, majestic worlds that the creators of the game come through with on each FF release. The music is ALWAYS superb too; the composer is dead on with the emotion of pieces he writes.

Ah, that happens a lot when I replay games. Like when I replayed VIII I played the whole game through, did every sidequest and all, but stopped before you ram into Lunatic Pandora and didn't play again for 6 months.

And Tactics now I'm stuck at the fight with Elmdor where you can steal the Genji gear, I just can't get it but I won't move on, so I haven't played for a month or so.

IX too, stopped in Fossil Roo a month ago.

But VII I played nonstop for two weeks and completed it all, Emerald and Ruby included

i would use freya or quina instead of vivi. freya should use rei's wind to get everyone in regen and attack with either jump or dragon crest, or if you use quina, s/he should use mighty guard and white wind for support, and use a strong frog drop if you get the chance.

steiner should just shock until he runs out of mp, but that shouldnt happen.

dagger should just use curaga every turn. but dont do it before ozma's attack. use it straight after it attcks.

zidane should just support with items, or use thievery if its good enough.

level up if you're still having trouble.

greyghost
07-14-2005, 06:07 PM
lol, my quina sucks and frayas about 20 levels behind who ive got...... probs should have thought about that before ah well, is shock the move you learn with ragnarok?

red barchetta
07-14-2005, 06:09 PM
yup, its the best move for steiner. does 9999 damage almost every time

another tactic is to use the blue magic 'magic hammer' with quina, which deals damage to the enemy's mp. since ozma only uses magic attacks, he wont be able to do anything with 0 mp. he can use osmose, but if all your characters have low mp, he wont get much back.

after that, just do physical attacks if you've done the friendly monster sidequest. otherwise just jump with freya (since you wont have any mp ;) )

That's the party I used. Have everyone trance ready. Have Zidane use the weakest trance attack he has (it should be doing 9999 damage by this point in the game) have Steiner use Shock, and have Vivi double cast his strongest spell. Dagger can summon or heal or whatever. It takes some luck, but you should be able to beat him after a couple tries.

that happened to me too, the boss at the end used ultima and killed my characters. the second time i fought him, my celes had 9000hp so she survived the ultima. my party now is invincible
Your avatar is sooooooo awesome.

First time (and second, and third I think) times I got up the tower, I died. But I was at like level 35 or so. Everyone was under level 40. How I avoided Ultima was by scanning him occasionally, and when he was super low on life, I had someone jump, so that they weren't hit by the Ultima.

Edit: Also, blitz can be pulled off on an emulator. I managed to pull off blitz on my snes, and that didn't have the little toggly stick thingie.

It seems to me that the biggest problem about remaking old Final Fantasy games for the playstation is the ridiculous load times. That was never a problem in the old days. And it absolutely RUINED Chrono Trigger.

I may be wrong...but for the UK we got:

Chronicles - I and II
Anthology - IV and V
Final Fantasy VI with a free FFX demo
I'm pretty sure here in the US we have:

Origins - I and II
Chronicles - IV and Chrono Trigger
Antholoy - V and VI

EDIT:Yeah, I just double checked, and that's what we have in the US at least.

And blitzes can be pulled off in emulators no problem. I do it every time Iplay. Doing diagonals, rolling, whatever. It's no problem, you just have to know how to do it.

Now that I really think about it, the UK had Origins as I + II aswell.

I'm not sure why I keep thinking of Chronicles.

Instead of getting Chronicles, I got Dawn of Souls for the GBA. The better looking sprites are cool, but I just love the original NES version of FF1.

Lol yep, good times good times.

Two things I noticed last time playing FFVI:
-Sabin's Blitz is the coolest idea ever in FF battles.
-The load times from field to menu and vice versa are painfully long.

Yes Sabin's Blitz rocks a ton of boxers. Zell was kinda like Sabin, but, Sabin >>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>Zell.

And for load times, its always good to have the snes version. *pets snes version of FF3*

Cyan's swordtechs are really cool, too, especially Quadra Slam. :thumb:

it emulates stuff.

no really, you download a ROM(like an SNES game, its called a ROM image). You load up the emulator which is like a program, and then load the rom in the emulator. and boom, your playing a console game on your PC. :thumb:

That's the party I used. Have everyone trance ready. Have Zidane use the weakest trance attack he has (it should be doing 9999 damage by this point in the game) have Steiner use Shock, and have Vivi double cast his strongest spell. Dagger can summon or heal or whatever. It takes some luck, but you should be able to beat him after a couple tries.

i just kept using shock with steiner, flare with vivi and used a dark matter with zidane, worked fine and i just used dagger to heal people.... i hate meteor just about wiped out my whole party, i got lucky i guess lol, thanks for all the advice ppl

I thought Hades, was a cinch. My party was Zidane, Dagger, Steiner, and Amarant... this was my first file, and they're the only ones at high levels... :upset: not the best team. So i'm working on another file to beat Ozma, because i don't think i can do it with that team.

Hades was pretty easy to beat, just hard to find.

In Memoria, the part where Quina thinks he's in water and swimming, Hades is around there somewhere. To the right of something I think...I can't quite remember.

Where do you find the second Pumice Piece in Final Fantasy IX?

DeusExMachina

I got to the little thing off the path, and even got Zidane to say something, but no battle ever started.

I thought his sythesis shop was the best in the game, and that was why he was so hidden.

And also, at the end of FFVII after the end FMV, and the credits have rolled, did everyone get a screen as if flying through space? I have this screen, and i was just wondering whether there was any extra clip at the end of it because it never seems to end. And when you use the controller the reset it, it doesnt reset.

It's supposed to be a "legendary" synth shop... and there you can synth Pumice (to summon Ark), which I already had by that time, plus it wastes two pumice pieces and they're pretty useful; Save The Queen, which is a sword nobody can use apart from Beatrix, who you don't actually use after disc 2; Robe Of Lords, which you can get from playing Chocobo Hot & Cold; Tin Armour, which is great but means you lose the Hammer and thus the extra ending; and all the summon jewels, which you've probably already got and can be synthed at the shop in Daguerreo.

So basically it's more or less useless. The Daguerreo one is way better.

And yes, everyone gets the space thing at the end of FFVII, no it doesn't have anything after it because it never ends. People have actually left that on for over 100 hours and nothing has happened.

That's why I like RPGs that have it to where when one of your parties gets exp all the other members who arn't fighting do as well. It just works out better if it's like that.

Don't kid yourself, you know its bad.

I just realized I think one of the biggest reasons FFVII was awesome was that there were two real enemies in Sephiroth and Shinra, and they were both badass. The Empire in VI kind of combines the two.

And so I just got the airship for full usage... I guess its time to find some sidequests.

FFIV is absolutely amazing. Really really good. And for people who say the hardest boss should be the last boss, (that discussion was going on a little while back) I found that that was certainly the case in FFIV. Truly top notch game.
