A good starting combo amp, everything you can expect from a 15 inch speaker and then some. Decently loud, though I believe you'd really need a 2x10 extension for it to be ideal. Some say the Peavey tone is an aquired taste, I loved it immediatly. The 7 band EQ on this thing is to DIE for. It's simply amazing, you can shuffle any tone out of this thing. It's got a few faults by my standards. I think the highs could be clearer, but again, that goes along with the 15 inch speaker, and playing at high speeds seems to get a little muddy, though you can kind of get through that if you don't mind boosting your mids. This amp is built like a tank, as are most Peavey things, it'd be one tough cookie to break. But that goes with reason, this amp weighs 85-90lbs...it kind of sucks. My room is the basement, so lugging it up stairs isn't fun. There's a single handle on top, almost useless, a design flaw I'm sure. I'm looking to put casters on it. This amp should keep you over the drums and guitar if they don't get TOO crazy. I'd recommend playing it, puzzling out the EQ, then deciding on a buy. You'll be satisfied until you want to move on to something larger. (I currently am.) If that doesn't work out, you may look into the 2x10 extention, people say it does wonders.
I give this a 4.25/5.
Good solid amp, it'll keep you going for a long time, but in the end you'll want a little more.

I just bought one as I'm just starting to play the bass. Could you maybe explain what the shelving and crossover is all about. I can't figure out what it's supposed to do. Spanx

Shelving controls (Low/High) are active tone controls that simply boost or cut your low frequencies.
I'm not sure what you mean by crossover.

Heyy man, funny to see you out of the bass forum!
I have the same amp and we think the exact same things about it. Awesome.
Tryxx gets a GP for the awesome review.

I have the same amp, though mine is from 1982, it still kicks ***, though i think the old school peavies sound better, they are indeed built tough as nails, cause mine is 22 years old, and still kicking strong, and it has been through many a gig, dropped, kicked, bled on, even some booze spilled on it. :D

And mine is also 150 watts. :p
But that aside, i think peavy makes great products, highly underrated brand.

Mine was a TNT130 from something like 1986. It was basically just what you described except the EQ wasn't as evolved, as I recall. I added an Acoustic TC-210P cabinet and it made huge improvements.
BUT I couldn't use the Acoustic as a simple extension, because of low power issues. So I ran a line from the effects send to the powered input of the Acoustic. And the acoustic had an extension plug on its panel, too. So I plugged the Acoustic into the wall, plugged the Peavey's power plug into the bag of the Acoustic, powered both up, plugged my bass into the Peavey, and then plugged a line from the peaveys 'effect out' jack to the Acoustic's 'power amp in' jack.
It was an ugly rig. Sure, but darned effective. Good tone, good reliability, and seriuos power. 150 Watts from the Peavey, 400Watts from the Acoustic.
So the short version is : Yes. An extension cabinet makes a big difference, especially if it has its own power amp.

I have a tnt 130. Its a top amp!! Can get a great sound out of it, its tough as fek and its loud too. At gigs i only put it about half way and that does fine. Really good speakers too, black widows are one of the best :D

I'm just starting out, only been playing a year, and I want to know if it makes a difference what bass/amp combo you use. I mean, I had a Fender P w/ Fender Rumble 15 combo, but I hated the sound of the guitar. So I got a Peavey Millenium BXP, and I like the sound w/ the Fender amp ok, but will a Peavey work or sound better??
Any you guys try running a 5 String through the TNT 115? Im interested in the amp but i am just wondering how it would handle that low B.
Cheers

I could be wrong, but...
Crossover: that is when you have more than one cabinet (or an extension on a combo), and you are able to somewhat control which frequencies are being directed to which cabinet. ie sending the lowest frequencies to your 15"er, and the higher ones to your cabinet with 10"ers, rather than simply sending all frequencies to both.

Nice review :thumb:
I bought my Peavey TNT 115 a few months ago and this thing is great for small gigs. I hardly ever have the volume past 12 o'clock. And it is built like a tank.
This is my first post. yay.

This amp lacks of treble, I had to boost them a lot and switch the "bright" control on to make it work.

They have a very deep tone. The TKO's are nice (and have an even deeper tone), if you actually play a good model, but the TNT has 7-band EQ and other options.

How do you date them? I bought mine used, and I don't know where to find the year on it.

Absolutely not.
What? Yours has TONE?!?! I must've gotten ripped off!
Especially if you like "suck".
Painful, painful memories...
Absolutely incorrect.
Greatest under-statement ever.
I owned one, and I give it a 1.8/5. Insanely heavy, ridiculously quiet, and the tone is mediocre at best.

ive got a TKO.. i can vouch for weight, goodness... but you can drop it down a flight of stairs and it'll be just fine :thumb: i know from experience.. haha.. stupid low ceiling..
but i think the tone is good, ive played a TNT a time or 2, they seem quiet similare to a TKO, only they're a bit louder.. over all, a good amp. cant really go wrong?.. im thinking led ^ got a bad amp. heh..

What would be a good, cheap 2x10 extension for the TNT?
(I'm talking around $300-$500 CND for the extension.)
(I'm also willing to order online from musiciansfriend or music123.)

I think he's referring to something like an Avatar 2x10 cab.
But I am not sure as to how well a TKO would power an extension cab.

the TKO 115 has an extension jack for another cab... its 75 watts w/o and....... im actually not sure about how it would be with the extra cab? haha.. i'll check next time i get a chance.

The TNT 115 is 150 Watts at 4 ohms, 200 at 2. On the Peavey website and on the message boards they've all recommended adding a 2x10 to it. Several reviews mention it too.
Nice review next time try and get a pic of it ;D

I hooked up a custom outfitted 4x10" cab to my TNT 115 when I still had it and I had a great sound out of mine. When I'd slap/pop the highs just flew out of the smaller speakers and that low thump....mm...well, you know what I'm talking about.
Nice basses, btw. Have you done a review of the Michael Kelly?

I have that bitch, and I have to say, it is the best amp I have played on.
Maybe the Ampeg BA-115 I played had some tone I adored, but the peavey is amazing for the price (I bought mine at $220.00). I would defintely reccomend it, and it would be pretty close to perfection, if it had casters or side handles included.

I hear you there. That single handle on top is horrid trying to traverse stairs with.

I need to really, really, do a review on the Michael Kelly... gah, I've put that off for so long.
And the Peavey has ALWAYS beat the Ampeg in my mind, especially for the price and volume. If it was the Ampeg with the built in effects you MIGHT be able to change my mind, but there are some issues there that I won't compensate with.
I'll probably try and plug my Epifani T-212 into my Peavey tomorrow. This is honestly the first time that ever crossed my mind, though it's two different worlds of tone.
