Ok, so with the release of the new album about 2 weeks ago, theres been an increase in sum41 threads and with the tour for america and europe coming up im sure they'll be more, so now they get an official thread YAY.
ALL Sum41 related stuff must go in here, and if you've come in to slag the band off, then fuk off.
Thanks, Butler :thumb:

They are one of the few bands I can think of that actually got BETTER after every album.
I'm impressed with Chuck. Sum 41 are probably the most popular band that I like.

i was wondering when someone would finally make an official sum 41 thread. Sum 41 is one of my favorite bands. Their old stuff was really good and so is their new stuff. I really need to pick up Chuck next time i go to the store.

yes. Sum 41 needs an official thread. they may not be as popular as green day or blink, but at least respect++ for their major advancement in popularity as pop-punk/metallic punkish music genre groups.

Chuck is amazing. Almost all the songs are extremely catchy and the solos that Dave puts out just shows you how talented he really is. This is the first album where you can tell how much other bands have influenced them; such as "There's No Solution"-Linkin Park, "The Bitter End"-Metallica. And the chorus of Some Say sounds so similar to Handle This it's eerie. I think Chuck is uber compared to D.T.L.I.

I couldn't really stand Sum 41 in the least for the longest time, but with the release of their new album...I have become very very impressed. I enjoy the new almost metal like approach they took on Chuck...it's something else. And the soloes in the Bitter End...wow...I had to check and make sure I was still listening to Sum 41. To TheBassicBassist: yes, in part i did.
Billy Talent are just a great band.
And, i think it doesn´t exist a Sum´s song where they all sing, cause Cone doesn´t sing in anyone, maybe Nothing on my back, but Stevo doesn´t sing it...
4stringslap23
10-22-2004, 08:07 PM
^ yeah Cone never sings on the albums, but he'll do backup live. Anyway, i haven't been a huge fan of sum 41 until recently. i just couldn't get into all killer, but now with the new single and hearing stuff from DTLI, i really like them again. which cd would you suggest to get first, DTLI or Chuck?
TheBassicBassist
10-22-2004, 09:11 PM
which cd would you suggest to get first, DTLI or Chuck?
I would get Chuck first, and DTLI second out of the two, but I don't think there's really any reason to get one before the other
TheBassicBassist
10-23-2004, 07:27 AM
yeah, I think cone only does background vox in one song, and I believe its at the same time as Dave. Steve only does lyrics in Fat Lip, Thanks For Nothing, Pain For Plessure, WWVII part 2, Reign In Pain (Heavy Metal Jamboree) that I have heard or can think of right now, and I don't think cone does background in any of them
Deryck
10-23-2004, 02:08 PM

If you really mind the order, you should get first Half Hour of Power. You can hear the teeny lousy voice of Deryck but it´s a GREAT album.
TheBassicBassist
10-23-2004, 06:14 PM
yeah if I was choosing from all four albums I would have to go for HHOP first, I got AKNF first though, not my choice, it was just the first one I could get ahold of. But of the two that the question was asked about, my previous answere remains the same.

A mellotron is a keyboard with an effect. The intro to strawberry fields by the beatles is done on a mellotron.
After listening to the new album Chuck i was very disappointed. Their Single We're All To Blame is the best song on the album by far. The rest of the album is unoriginal, predictable nu metal. The intro to the album is also one of the only good parts of the album. DTLI is a much better album, no question. Im surprised all of you are giving praise to this generic crap. Sum 41 is a great band (especially live) but they did a horrible job on this album.
Keep in mind this is all imo.
BridgeToSolace
10-27-2004, 04:42 PM
For an MTV band, this is a huge step forward.
I would hardly say nu-metal...metal influenced pop-punk. Or pop-punk influenced metal depending on the track.

There were great, Daves guitar kept shorting out though, so deryk(sp) made a little song about it. Also some guy threw a bottle and it cover Bizzy in water, so they got him up stage, and him and this guy had a water fight on stage. This guy was so much taller then him though, but Cone and Dave sunk up behind him and soaked him threw. Ahh good times.

11-10-2004, 08:15 PM
neh. im just proud that i have the only The Bitter End drum tab on mxtabs =P
Good for you! And yes the drum part is easy. It's just a normal song with a bunch of metal riffs. Newbie drummers thinks its hard because of the double bass.
ClayTheJ
11-10-2004, 08:18 PM
I was tryin' to make a guitar tab for The Bitter End but then I saw someone else did and he shut me down so I stopped makin it lol
drumfreak
11-10-2004, 08:19 PM
you should still make it to give users more options to find the tab.
ClayTheJ
11-10-2004, 08:21 PM
But you don't understand, this guys tab was like, better than tab book stuff lol, my tabs suck, I made a tab for welcome to hell (guitar), short and easy song

11-10-2004, 08:23 PM
ahhh, I see what you mean. I'm the same way with drum tabs.

ClayTheJ
11-10-2004, 08:35 PM
Bout 8 months probably
drumfreak
11-10-2004, 08:37 PM
Can you play blink, sum 41, greenday and all their stuff. I mean not all of it but some of their stuff?
ClayTheJ
11-10-2004, 08:39 PM
Play all Blink stuff, can't do all Sum 41 stuff but most of what I've heard, some of Dave's solos are really hard, and yea Green Day stuff is pretty easy
drumfreak
11-10-2004, 08:40 PM
So your a pretty good guitarist. Well then again none of their stuff is that hard. I can play most of it on guitar. Yes I play guitar too. I'm just 80 times better at drums.
ClayTheJ
11-10-2004, 08:43 PM
I wouldn't call myself a good guitarist, lol, but I'm pretty good for 8 months, and my band that I've been with for about 4 months is startin to get pretty good but my bassist quit cuz he was b*tchin about not gettin enough vocals, I tabbed some of my guitar parts for the songs at mx, under Unneeded And Unwanted, if you wanna look at it go for it, but those are the easy songs that I can tab quickly
drumfreak
11-10-2004, 08:46 PM

Don't play bass, and the part in Welcome To Hell sounds hard, all I can do to help you with it is to say good luck, just kinda look off the bottom note of the powerchord, that might help a little bit
TheBassicBassist
11-12-2004, 06:26 AM
no, because the bass part is independent for this song, and its really not too hard at all, I just can't figure it out, I have a bad ear for figuring out music
ClayTheJ
11-12-2004, 08:24 PM
I can only figure out powerchord stuff and thats all Welcome to Hell is, very unlike sum 41 lol

"We are all to blame" sounded like it was ripped off from System Of A Down's "Chop Suey". Not only do they have similar melody, the structure to the song is similar too.
Well, I'm sure many others have noticed this.

Don't belive many others have noticed this cuz I see no resemblence other than there being guitar bass drums and vocals that are put into the song to make music out of it, other than that I see no connection

he always sounds off key live  , its not the best live show ever but they are a good group :thumb: :D
okay they were shooting a documentary with the group War Child Canada in a country where a serious war broke out a few years back and almost everybody fought in it, including kids who hadn't even hit puberty yet :upset:   , it was a very serious and brutal war and Sum 41 felt really bad for the kids and people, so they decided to help with the documentary, and while filming a small war broke out and there were guns and explotions and stuffand Sum 41 ran and hid in a bathroom for awhile, and Chuck organized an escape for them and some other people, they were grateful to him even though the experience didn't make them appreciate their lives any more than they already did but they felt indebted to him and decided to call their new album Chuck after him, I respect that guy for saving their lives like that. If you need anymore information go to http://www.sum41.com and skip the intro and when the site finishes loading go over to the left put your cursor on the link labeled something like music & videos or something and do not click then move down to the sublinks and click on WHO IS CHUCK and read the story
anyway, I hope thats good enough for you, enjoy the new CD
metal_milita
11-23-2004, 10:43 PM
honestly, thanks for that post i most likely won't go to that link, but its nice to know that.
and actually, they don't usually sound off-key live. i've seen most of their performances live, its just that one time. his voice doesn't sound off key, it seems like the mikes volume was too high and he was trying to sing softly so they don't drone out the guitar (which is so not metal and rock tutut). my opinion.
but honestly my favourite songs are like "welcome to hell (awsome bass line, cone shows his stuff)" "88 (best metal feel in entire cd, kick *** tapping solo by dave (once again))" "we're all to blame (obvioulsy, that song is pretty good (the still waiting or fatlip of their new CD)" "the bitter end (best song in entire CD with a kickass metallica style solo (literally, it sounds ripped off of battery/but dave still does do an awsome job)) and "the reason (has their old punk feel, but with more meaningful lyrics and a better musicial structure).
we're all to blame (obvioulsy, that song is pretty good (the still waiting or fatlip of their new CD)"
I love we are all to blame. Two thumbs up :thumb::thumb:
ClayTheJ
11-24-2004, 08:52 PM
We're all to blame is a good song, but I think '88' is the best song on the new CD
ya. three thumbs up :thumb::thumb::thumb:

88 is still better than "we're all to blame" however.

last year at my church camp talent show, my performance group (not band) played Makes No Difference, it was a really good show, alot of people thought it was amazing, but our vocalist turned up the mic too loud and he overpowered the instruments more than we liked.

I hope they do 88, its better than Pieces, Pieces is good but 88 deserves a video better, and a video for No Reason would be amazing, and Welcome To Hell would be one of the coolest vids ever, and for the guitar nuts, a video for The Bitter End, then a new album, the perfect lineup

buy (or downlaod if your a cheap bastard lol) a program called Guitar Pro 4. Its a program that will not only show you tabs of songs, but it will play them for you. It teaches and involves certain amounds of musical theory, knowledge and techniques. Its really user friendly and handy also. Download "tabs" over a site www.mysongbook.com. In creating music, you need to know over a certain amount of musical structural knowledge such as note lengths and rests... You can add different parts (practically any insturment you can think of) and not only that, but get different sounds for them. You can pick up songs in hours with that program, i love it.

I think they should have played 88, We're All To Blame isn't their best work, don't get me wrong its really good, but they should have made 88 their single, and it was a really good show, I think Pieces was a good choice to perform in order to demonstrate that Deryck can play Piano
forgetting something........ BIT-TER END!! *cue yelling it out like deryck*
haha i made my friend listen to sum41 cd, hes hooked to it so badly holy crap. Im responsible for the addition of a hardcore fan lol, he thought sum41 was "goth" with their new metal vibe. After a small asskicking, he realized the error of his ways and never shall his loyalty sway (or god help him)
holy cow i have a lot of posts at once... maybe i should stay a bit more updated on this thread instead of replying each post at a time.

The Bitter End wouldn't have been a good single, people would have been like, "The new Sum 41 Cd, I heard their new single, and it sounded like a total rippoff of Metallica", not a good choice
its cool that you commited a hardcore fan, but not cool that thinks they are goth, thats weird

yeah, but they are only allowed to do one song, so I think they should do 88, people would get to hear a solo by Dave, and Deryck would get to play a little keyboard, its upbeat, and longer than the rest of their songs, I think people would kinda like it

That's the first I've heard of them being similar to Iron Maiden. I don't listen to them so I couldn't say if Sum 41 sounded like them or not.
By the way guys/girls/all who want to see Sum 41 live, they are performing on Jimmy Kimmel Live tommorrow night, that's December 15, 2004. Be there.

did anyone else ever catch on to the fact that the initials for the song T.H.T. off of their album Half Hour Of Power stood for the title Tables Have Turned I just recently picked up on that, but I still can't figure out what the initials A.N.I.C. mean, it eludes me

hey i havent been on this for ages...anyway, ANIC does mean anna nicole is cute but stevo is the only one that thinks that (and even though he says that i cant figure out if he's saying it sarcastically or whatever)....on the dvd sake bombs and happy endings before they played ANIC deryck was like "this is our only love song....i dunno if you know this person, if u dont ur lucky, this song is about a person called anna nicole smith.....this songs called ANNA NICOLES A ****EN STUPID CUNT!"....words to that effect anyway...i dunno about u all but i wouldnt like that song to be about me. good song though. sorry for going on about this but i just know alot about sum 41 and feel i should share what i know, relevant or not.

ok, that's pretty cool, but on your website, there is no Sum 41 stuff, there is a section devoted to them, but there is nothing in there

I thought Dave and Stevo did the HEY's. Did Cone do them alone, or did he have help from Deryck or anyone? I want to see them perform No Reason live, maybe they'll do it tonight, that would be awesome

oh man, I hoped that wouldn't ever get asked, its really hard for me to say, they've never made a song that I didn't thoroughly enjoy
well I guess I never really listen to Another Time Around, its not because I don't like it, its just I never really get around to listening to it, for those of you who don't know the song, it is off of the album Half Hour of Power, it's the 11th track, and once its over there is just a bunch of blank nothingness after it for about three minutes

back to the ANIC thing, in interviews theyve said it stands for "Anna Nicole Is a Cunt" i saw them at ryans ballroom in milwaukee and they said "Anna Nicole smith Is a ****ing Cunt" im betting they just stuck with on the cd ANIC cuz it has a ring to it, but they change the words in it whenver they say the name in concert. i guess its just a matter of how they feel at the time.

wow man. honestly, there isnt a sum 41 song i dont like, but i guess the one that i like the least would have to be All She's Got. now don't get me wrong, i like this song, but out of every single sum 41 song i'd have to say that's my least favorite. back in the sixth grade when i first picked up all killer no filler it was probly the song that least appealed to me.

oh man, okay I tried to make a thread about them in Punk, got posted raped for a deffinate failure, their advise to me was try pop-punk, so I did, it caught on for a good long while, then Untitled258 (now known as Untitled) started the Official thread, and it was supposedly mod endorsed by PDWAB (Punk Drummer With A Brain) and it really caught on, its my favorite thread, and the people that post here are cool, but to answer your question, if this went to the Rock/Metal forum, there is no telling what kind of hell would break loose, it would be a disaster, if the people from any other forum like Sum 41, they are just going to have to accept the fact that they have to post in pop-punk
