I like all of their videos, they are really funny.

yeah man, especially at the end of Still Waiting when they start to break everything for no reason.

TheBassicBassist
03-14-2005, 07:46 AM
yeah, they've got some good videos. they had like 3 versions of makes no difference...
then fat lip, in too deep, motivation, what we're all about, still waiting, hell song, over my head, little know it all, we're all to blame, and pieces.
did i miss any?
i've liked every one of them. we're all to blame was a little weird though.

I think they had 2 versions of Makes No Difference. But I could be wrong. I haven't seen the one's for Little Know It All or Pieces, but I mean too.

himynameistweek

there were basically 2 but they had a "censored" and "raw" version of one of them. the differences were more than that, though. they actually had some different footage.

Does anyone else think that track 10 (i forget the name) on Chuck sounds kinda like The Offspring?

the guitar is similiar to "all i want" (one of my favorite songs of all time, that's weird because my 2 favorite bands are sum 41 and the offspring)

I went to the Sum 41 concert in Hawaii on the 9th. Best night of my life. When Deryck walked on stage and yelled "We are Sum 41!" I almost cried. :p But yeah the concert was great. The set list was awesome. It satisfied old and new fans. I was right up front. Cone spit on me! It was so awesome.

Oh yeah 88 was the best live. It was so awesome. I didn't think they would play the last part of the song (the losing control part) but they did. Sounded perfect. I also liked Moron live, mainly 'cus it was the first time hearing it live.

^ yeah Cone never sings on the albums, but he'll do backup live. Anyway, i haven't been a huge fan of sum 41 until recently. i just couldn't get into all killer, but now with the new single and hearing stuff from DTLI, i really like them again. which cd would you suggest to get first, DTLI or Chuck?

Defently DTLI its got The Hell Song, Still Waiting, Mr Abmsterdam (how ever you spell it) and they do all sing in that song , and Cone sings back up on Still Waiting in the choruses and Verses, and Hooch those are all the good ones but i also really like the interlude to No Brains

Chuck is ok my favorite song is No Reason and next would be We're' All To Blame and im not into Bitter End at all. the lyrics just dont feel right the music good

Oh anyone know if they are coming to Georgia any time soon i noticed they never came here in their past tours according to their web site

that was the first solo i learned use this tab
http://www.mxtabs.net/tab_versions.php?path=Guitar,s,1324,Sum+41,Hell+So ng,64496 its correct some of its timing is a little bit odd but if you got the CD it should help when it comes to hammering well you play the note before it and then slam your finger on the next note or fret and to practice try hitting it alot of times over and over again it should help with your speed and accuracy

hey, back to the sum41 thread. internet went downfor a while
anyways, noticing bassicbassist isn't around, what happened? he had 80% of the posts on any pages, this worries me.

but anways, man, the video for pieces is awsome. it makes the song seem so much better also. very VERY sadly, its the most meaningfull video i've seen in a while, and i DONT live in a bad neighbourhood. meh, go figure.

but anyways, I cross my fingers everyday that bitter end or 88 will be their next singles, they haven't released ONE single with a decent solo.
Plus the video would kick ***.
Again, should i send forhelp to find bassicbassist? has he been kidnapped or somethin, since when did he stop posting here. probably a simpleplan fan beating him to death. **** queers.

Hey I was listening to Half Hower of Power... I noticed, the intro/beginning of Fat Lip sounds like part of Grab The Devil By The Horns And **** Him Up The ***, but slower.

thats bs. they're not even written in the same scale even if the key could have been different. If your trying to say playing moderatly fast notes up and sort of down a scale (in different patterns and sequences) are the same, you're not very musically 'learned.'
Not that writing in the same scale makes a song good or bad. Look at metallica, mainly all of their good songs are written in the E scale without getting repepitive or old.

I'm pretty sure I know what songs they're going to play and the exact order and stuff but I'm not going to tell you. Let it be a surprise. I'll tell you one thing, they're most likely not going to play In Too Deep. All their other singles they will.

A few pages back, people were discussing which songs had everyone singing. I'm suprised no one mentioned "It's What We're All About" (both versions, the one at the end of Daves Posessed hair and spiderman) but Cone doesn't sing in the Half-Hour of Power one I don't think.

I'm so happy that my little Sums are growing up. I bought HHOP around the time of it's release, and everyone either had no idea who they were or hated them.

and all im sayin about fat lip and grab the devil is how in the intro to fat lip, they play three lower notes than a high one, and in the middle of grab the devil they play three lower notes then a high one, but faster, and diff. notes
im just sayin that they are kinda alike

and whats wrong about the tab books? my friend got The Best of Sum 41, which has stuff form AKNF and DTLI, and everything in it sounds right... I know Motivation and In Too Deep are, or at least, the bass parts are... But most of the other songs sounded right, too

K i sorta see where your trying to come from, but NO. Say that to anyone else and they'll laugh at you.
1. Fat Lip, the first 3 notes are played, and they skip to a note about 3 steps up.
Grab the Devil.... plays just the C minor scale (I think) up and down with all consecutives notes, no skipping.
2. Thats the worst basis to set a comparison for. Thats like saying the chorus of fatlip and the intro to Still Waiting sound the same because they use power chords.

Just a little lesson for next time (Trust me, I'm in IB music)

nope, they lip synched (the entire song was just a backtrack, plus instruments) because they had faulty wires i believe.

i don't think that's it, they've done it twice. and it's a show that people regularly lip synch on. i think that was just the plan.

Yeah there is a lot of lip synching on top of the pops but I saw The Offsrping do Original Prankster on it and they weren't lip synching. Well a lot of the background vocals were synched but you could tell Dexter was singing. Oh well Sum 41 doesn't lip synch at concerts so that's all that matters.

They were pop-punk for AKNF and HHoP, but for DTLI and Chuck they were more metal-influenced.

and i always just refer to sum 41 as a rock band now. i think that's about the best label you can give them. they're pretty diverse.

I missed Ellen but I saw them do it on Letterman, Kimmel, and Leno, all with piano. I also have some concert vids where Deryck played piano. That's why I was surprised at the concert I went to, he played guitar instead of piano. I was so happy because I think it sounds much better with guitar.

I don't consider them as pop punk at all anymore. That's why I get so mad when they're still refered to as pop-punk. If you listen to what everybody calls pop-punk and think Sum 41 is then you're just plain dumb. So yes I agree with you I think they're just a rock band with some metal elements.

Meh, the way I see it, Pop-Punk is probably the genre I listen to most, soI come here, but I also like it here because there are less elitists here than in most of the other forums. Apart from Alt/Indie, the guys there are cool (not as cool as the pop-punkers though :p), just I prefer the music here :)

OH MY ****ING GOSH THAT CONCERT KICKED SO MUCH ***

we got there late and dind't see hawthorne heights, but got to see unwriteen law.... they were sweet

anyway,

first, they had this hugeass sheet. they played a video of sum 41. steve and cone are playing basketball, and cone wins. steve kicks his *** and chops him up. deryck and dave come over and say whats for dinner. steve says YOU

They started with The Hell Song. I don't remember the exact order, but they played A.N.I.C. (Anna Nicole is a Cunt), Never Wake Up, Motivation, Fat Lip, Makes No Difference, Grab The Devil By The Horns and **** Him Up The ***, Machine Gun, Welcome To Hell, Intro/No Reason, We're All To Blame, The Bitter End, Some Say, My Direction, and a few others that I can't remember... It was so ****ing awesome seeing them live... They were going nuts and all sorts of ****
and deryck was yelling and talkin and **** it was awesome... at one point, hes just like "bye" and they walked off... then they played the intro song (cd) and came out to play no reason
and after ANIC he said Anna nicole can never wake up then they played never wake up... but i think he sang something different than the AKNF song

lol cone was throwin his bass around but they guy there caught em and stuff
like, when he switched basses
i wish i had joined the goon platoon, i woulda been able to seem them after the show and stuff... but im gonna join next week i hope
there were some ****ing hot chicks... but a lot of them smoked

the bad parts being people smoked and drank and ****... people had weed and it smelled so bad... i've never held my breath that long ever.... poeple were throwing bottles but they were all plastic...
i woulda got a shirt and all but the lines were long and i was gonna save my money... and, my friends dad who was there said i could get one online for like half the price

i think dave baksh is one of the best guitarist in pop punk today.... (although are sum41 even pop punk anymore... there kinda pop metal punk..????).... . anyway does anyone agree that its his guitar playing that divides sum41 from anything else in the genre..... and this goes to show that whatever you are initially influnced by can highly effect how you play in the future.... he was and still is a big iron maiden and anthrax fan.... and its easy to see how he tries to get that out in sum41 without over doing it too much....

I love all Sum 41's music but it seems like their choice in what kind of music they play evolved with my taste in music, which is why they are still my favorite band to this day. IMO, dtli and chuck were their best. And in 2000 and 2001 they were still "punkish", considering HHOP was 2000 and AKNF was 2001. DTLI came out in 2002.

The best thing about Sum 41 is that they can do anything they want, and get away with it, mostly because it's cool. They can do immature pop-punk, they can do metal, they can play anything. They're excellent musicians too. On thier first CD, the opening track 'Grab The Devil By The Horns...' the sheer musical talent there is amazing. Especially as they were so young when they wrote it.

Half Hour Of Power is their best CD in my opinion, although I havent really heard much of Chuck.

yea grab the devil by the horns is awesome.... i was surprised when they played it at the show a few weeks back
they played like all the good stuff, i was surprised they had any of it in 'em... machine gun, grab the devil by the horns, makes no difference, nothing on my back, fat lip, motivation, hell song, anic, no reason, were all to blame, no brains

TheBassicBassist

they watched alot of horror movies while they were making DTLI and they were on tour when they wrote it, so they were in a different mood and they stuck on rock after that.

I love What We're All About, it's amazing, it's the only rap I listen to, other than that one they did with Ludacris (mainly for the bass intro and dave's solo). Cone needs to get more vocal time. This is like one of the few songs he does anything in vocaly.

he doesn't sing in that... its dave, deryck, and stevo. in the non-guitar version, he does the beat-boxing. all cone ever sings is backups in fat lip, still waiting, and a few other songs. even when i saw them in concert, he barely sang.

Cone does a lot of screaming backing vocals for songs like No Reason, Still Waiting, and We're All to Blame. When I saw them live it was really funny because Cone was spitting a lot when he was screaming "All! to! Blame!". But that's only live, I don't know about on albums.

Ordered my ticket for 6th July show in Manchester.
Can't wait, I hope they only play a few of the good songs off Chuck though. I don't really like that album.
I love the other 3 though.
