I just saw something last night about Iommi, turns out he cut his middle and pointer finger before they started sabbath. He plays with artificial finger caps, I just think that's amazing.

This is a Ozzy thread too though. But that's okay.
^No its not.
Hence Offical Black Sabbath.
If this was also an Ozzy-solo thread, we should also make it a Dio, Gillan, Tony Martin etc..solo career thread aswell.
So this is for Black Sabbath only, nothing more, nothing less.

Hello dudes, how's it going? I'm back after not having too much time to get on the Net... :( Yeah I'm posting almost ONLY on Sabbath thread, so it's pretty self-explanatory that I'm fifth on the list. And so is self-explanatory Andys presence on the 1st place on the list... What crap am I writing here about? **** I'm getting worse and worse... Aargh. And back to topic... My favourite (and the only one I know) album with Martin is TYR. It's brilliant. I'm gonna get some other albums with him.

I've never really understood what's so great about Tony Iommi. The band in general is great, as far as helping to create heavy metal...but Tony Iommi is just a simple little solo and a three or four chords. Paranoid is only two...for christ sake.

Butler in Sabbath, but dio in other things.
Geezers lyrics are amazing. I've noticed that any time he's been working with Ozzy, the lyrics produced are always great.
Dio's lyrics are more fantasy/d&d style which is also great.

He is a great guitarist. Of course he is not as fast as eg. yngwie malmsteen, but what would he need that for? Malmsteen's music gets boring, so does Satriani's in my opinion. And Tony Iommi's riffs don't get like that in Sabbath. They all sound great. And his solos. Unbelievably matching any song he writes, listenable (though as far as I hear they are based on pentatonic scale). Just cool. The one from Zero the Hero is a masterpiece, for example.
Edit: Andy, you are a power metal fan. So you gotta like killing evil princesses to save the beautiful dragons from them in metal lyrics. I personally don't.

Can anyone tell me what is wrong with the 96 castle remasters. I almost got one today but then remembered that ive heard they arnt as good. So can someone tell me the actual reason they are no good.
They're terrible. The remaster job on them is horrible, you'd be better off buying a vinyl version of the album then a 1996 remaster.
The band didn't ask for them to be done, the record label went out and did it which is why they suck.
Black Sabbath are superb when Ozzy was a member, No sabbath no heavy metal simple as that. Better than the overated c**p that is Iron Maiden

Also, I think Paranoid was the first song I learnt all the way through on bass. It might have been Ozzy's 'I Don't Know' though, I'm not 100% sure.

They started in 1970.
no, they released black sabbath and paranoid (i think paranoid but not sure) in 1970 but they started in 1960 as a blues band and toured for a couple of years before making the song black sabbath
they were called pulka tulk then pulk tulk-earth then earth then black sabbath
(some of that might be false information but never mind)

I know that they were Polka tulk and then Earth but I just meant from the time they were called Black Sabbath
/brummie puts on his clever hat.
The Black Sabbath that we know and love today, started in 1970.
Earth, the previous form of Black Sabbath, started in 1968/1969.
So it is their 35th this year as Black Sabbath.
Also, to my knowledge, Ozzy and Geezer were the only members in the Polka Tulk Blues Band.
Edit: This kids, is the Brummie clever/flame proof hat.

I couldnt tell you, I havn't been playing guitar that long. Bass is more my thing, but I enjoy guitar. It shouldn't be about whats easier, you should choose something thats just beyond what you think you can do, and practice it until you can do it. If you're just starting out, Black Sabbath isn't what you wanna look into, it can get difficult.

Live Evil is fantastic.
Its taken me about 5 listens to really like it, at first I was like ''meh...Dio's voice doesn't do the songs justice'' but he gives them his own touch and doesn't sing them exactly how Ozzy sang them.
Its well worth getting, I have it on vinyl.

I dont really see the advantage of vinyl unless its cheaper than the cd.
morning all.
i prefer cds, mainly because i dont actually have a record player. i'd have to go to my grandads. he says hes got some vinyls that are over 100 years old, classical music obviously.

Apparently its not Iron Maiden but Godsmack feat. Bruce Dickinson.
Either way its a good cover.
To me...vinyl is how music is supposed to be heard, it has more of a live feel to the album instead of something thats been sat in a studio being sampled over and over and mastered to get the ''correct'' sound.
Sure cd's may sound better, but I prefer vinyl.

whats the best album with dio
Ulysses
01-14-2005, 06:45 AM
Vinyl has a fuller sound, its heavier sounding yet still very clear, I'd have to say i prefer the sound of vinyls on an expensive record player than cd's. But cd's are portable, more accesable and versatile which is why i buy mainly purchase cd's.

Vinyls cool, my bro has a deck in his room and all our records....except hes gone off to uni and left them all so I'd put it all in my room and "re-possess" it :p...except I dont have a separate amplifier system & speakers for them :upset: If I wanna listen to them I have to go in his room so I mainly listen to CDs, or play my MDs through my bass amp

01-14-2005, 12:08 PM
Hi everyone (while nobody present, but whatever). Vinyls? I don't have a vinyl player or any vinyls actually so I can't say anything about them. I would prefer CDs I guess. Pity that Sabbath albums don't go through in those d*mn polls. They deserve it a lot more than Maiden, Metallica etc in my opinion. And does anyone know if any Cradle of Filth albums were on the polls?
shadow_stalker
01-14-2005, 01:06 PM
i dont think there were any but i didnt see the first few polls so...
Meh, I care very little about these polls.
Today I bought:
Black Sabbath ''We Sold Our Souls For Rock n Roll'' t-shirt
Inside Black Sabbath 1970 - 1992 DVD
TYR
The DVD is alright, its got some great live footage of Tony Martin but the Ozzy and Dio years stuff is basicly everything you've heard before.
I haven't listened toTYR yet, I'm playing bass at my pooter instead trying to come up with riffs for a song.
shadow_stalker
01-14-2005, 02:28 PM

Tony Martin does.

At a guess....4
shadow_stalker
01-14-2005, 04:57 PM
it doesnt matter if you mention songs like warning more then once just so long as you dont bring up paranoid in every other post, andy might try and kill you
since there are 4 Tony Martin albums it'll be ok to ask the question 'what is everyones favourite tony martin sabbath album?
Out of TYR and Headless Cross....its hard to choose, I like them both the same.
I'm pretty sure he sung on Cross Purposes and Forbidden, I could check but I'm feeling lazy at the moment.
