yeah that movie is awsome, it matches with the band black sabbath, they would make a great soundtrack for it. and i think it was released in the 60s, cause its in color
shadow_stalker
11-17-2004, 03:19 PM
that was probably a remake of it
Yeh, I think the original was released in 1922?
It may be something completly different, but at the moment the date 1922 links to the film in my head.

My favorite would be Paranoid. You should get the "We Sold Our Soul To Rock n Roll" CD.
That CD was awesome! They blew me away when I first heard it, it was like my first time hearing Black Sabbath.

And on the topic of film/song/band name, the song Black Sabbath came first, they named the band after the song. I believe the song was named after the film Black Sabbath.

if sabbath were going to make a new studio album who would you want to sing on it?
i would want ozzy as vocalist
Either Ozzy or Dio.
I've not heard much from the others, but whoever sang on The Eternal Idol had a pretty good voice.
/checks magazine
'twas Tony Martin.

i swear to god your avatars get weireder and weireder lord brumminton
*off topic*
And so...I tell the story of my avatars.
It started out with the Aussie Pink Floyd logo, which is they're version of the DSOTM cover (Its Australia with the colours going through it).
Then it was Murray, from The Curse of Monkey Island.
Then it became the Vol.4 album cover.
Then I went back to the Aussie Floyd avatar.
Then I got Bob, and the other night Kif made the Bob/Hippo avatar.
Yay.

I haven't heard it either, but it should be with the new Ozzy 4-Disc box set.
There was a rumour flying around about a box set of the other Sabbath albums from the non-Ozzy era, I'm not sure if its going to be released though.

True, I think a good cover that Ozzy should've done is "Born to be Wild". I can just imagine him singing that.
True. Ozzy was put on this earth to sing metal songs and only metal songs.
What about Solitude, Planet Caravan and Changes? Those songs don't really fit into the ''metal'' genre. ;)

Yeah, I didn't think he did good on those.
Wow, Changes IMO has some of Ozzy's best on it, I just like how it flows.
Changes was alright, a bit on the cheesy side though.
The duet he did with Kelly sucked, hard.
It had interesting and reasonably good lyrical content, but they slaughtered a classic song.

I love the song planet caravan, although solitude I really don't dig.
Has Tony done anything serious since sabbath? I'd be intrested to hear it.
He's released two albums under the name ''Iommi''.
One came out in 2000, and featured many different artists on it including Ozzy on one song.
His latest album (which is actually pretty old) was released a few weeks ago, I can't remember its official name but its been dubbed the ''8th Star'', due to the Black Sabbath album ''7th Star'' being a Tony-solo-album, under the Sabbath name (record companies  )
Thats all I can think of at the moment for Tony.

11-19-2004, 04:25 PM
Solitude is nowhere near as good as planet caravan IMO
Solitude > Planet Caravan > The Paranoid album.
Why?
I just don't like that album much, I'm more into the later Ozzy albums and post-Ozzy albums.

Didn't someone else sing solitude?
Nope, it was Ozzy.
Bill Ward sang Its Alright (Technical Ecstasy) and Swinging the Chain (Never Say Die!)
Brooksyd2
11-19-2004, 07:45 PM
Solitude is awesome, and your right Lord Brummington, ozzys voice is beatiful in that song. The first time i heard it i had a hard time believing it was him singing.
Planet caravan is a much darker song in my opinion but again ozzys voice fits it perfectly (just look at the pantera cover to see how unique ozzys voice is, good cover but not a patch on the original).
But overall I think solitude is better than planet caravan, although i think the planet caravan solo is hard to beat.

hey guys, I'm planning to buy a sabbath cd, what album should I get?
Also whats the name of the album with that song "Sabbra Cadabra" that Metallica 'borrowed'
^Sabbra Cadabra is on the album Sabbath Bloody Sabbath.
For your first Sabbath cd, I recommend The Best of Black Sabbath or We Sold our Soul For Rock 'n' Roll, both are compilation albums and they give a good insight into what Sabbath sound like etc...
But if you're not looking into buying a compilation album, I highly recommend Vol.4 and Master of Reality as the first albums to buy, both are amazing and its the point in time where Sabbath were really delving deep into their sound, some songs being heavy, some being mellow and in all, they show the best of Sabbath from the Ozzy years.
i hate the song its alright
Fair enough.
shadow_stalker
11-20-2004, 02:33 PM
i would say either paranoid or the best of sabbath for starters, simply because the best of has well their "best" songs and paranoid has most of the songs that people tend to asociate (sp?) with sabbath (dont know if that really makes sense but still)

my favourite album is We Sold Our Souls For Rock And Roll. That and Paranoid. I love all the songs off both those albums \m/
TerryThorne
11-20-2004, 03:08 PM
I suggest Paranoid first because I got We sould our souls and when I got paranoid I knew half the album already
For popular Black Sabbath, get Paranoid.
Then you'll be cool.
For better Black Sabbath(with Ozzy), get either Vol.4, Master of Reality or Never Say Die!
Then you'll be cooler.

I think the first Sabbath album I heard was The Greatest Hits (not We Sold our Souls or The Best Of, this one is probably hard to find these days).

First I heard was Master Of Reality on tape. :p

i guess my favorite sabbath moment would be the first time i heard sabbath, my friend recomended them to me, i bought paranoid. I put it on the stereo and i felt like i was going into a new world of music, like i had never heard music that good, it was also my introducction to real metal music.

dont know if this really counts as a sabbath moment but its how i got into them
their was a play on at school which my sister was in (which i got dragged to), and at the half time interval a band came on to entertain the crowed, and they played paranoid so i was thinking "thats bloody good" so after having it in my head for a week straight i found it on the jukebox at a pub in my town and ive put it on every sunday for the past 2 or 3 years

Sabbath was what really got me into metal (now i listen quite a lot to CoF and Polish band VADER), and the person who got me to Sabbath was my cousin. And what's strange it's really ME who slowly gets my parents into heavy metal :), though them bastards don't quite want to... :naughty:

Many people don't. Because it's so-called best album by BS. Yet Paranoid(the song) is one of the most well -known riff in the world, yet too simple (maybe) for us fans... 'The most popular' albums are i think often disliked by fans... aren't they?

how can their most popular album be disliked by their fans? if that was true it wouldnt be their most popular album
kredkeee!
11-25-2004, 12:16 PM
I mean not by all of them. Some fans like it, some not. i do. But its most popular within people that eg normally dot listen to Sabbath or Metal at all. I guess you could take 1000 people who lived in the 70's and get them to listen to Paranoid and most of them would say 'dude i know that, it was cool when i was younger'... And many fans of sabbath i know dislike Paranoid because.. it's so well-known and liked by the not-fans...

ah, i get what you mean now, yeah i know quite a few people that dont really listen to sabbath but if you ask them to name a sabbath song or album they will say paranoid, but if you ask them something like if they thought that randy rhoads was a good guitar player for sabbath alot of them will say "yeah, he was class" (even though randy didnt play for sabbath), which normally shows whether they do actually listen to sabbath or not...i know what i mean

Master of Reality... Yes. In my opinion all BS albums are great, and i couldn't say any from these i've heard is better than others. But MoR seems to me the first BS album on which they play only Heavy Metal. Black Sabbath and paranoid were more bluesy. Children of the Grave, After Forever, Lord of This World... Simple yet changing and very listenable riffs, hard, 'biting' solos and sooo great vocals of Ozzy... together with Geezer's bass and Bill's drums it gives one of the hardest Metal albums I've heard...

ozzy is always the person that comes to my mind when i think sabbath, but after him its iommi, then geezer and bill at the same time
really tony isnt really anything special now, back when they were fairly new it was like "bloody hell listen to that guiatr" and so on, but so many people have copied his playing style that it isnt reall that great (but you can still tell if it's an iommi riff), there need to be more origional guitar players rahter than ones who just want to be like their favourite guitarist, same goes for drumming, bass and vocal

I think not completely replacable. Geezer is for me a god of bass playing, and Bill... well, he's not as good as Cozy Powell (whom I adore, after hearing TYR), but still he sounds great with other 'original lineup' guys. He died.
I still have him saved somewhere, but I was getting bored of it.

I just bought Volume 4. I think it is a huge letdown. Does anyone else agree with me?

True.
But anyway, from what i've heard from Vol. 4, it's a great album.

yeah it is a great album, not as good as maybe master of reality or sabbath bloody sabbath, its kind of the forgotten album of the ozzy era, its underrated.
^Technical Ecstasy and Never Say Die! are alot more underrated than Vol.4
But in my opinion, Vol.4 is a true Sabbath fan's album.

I agree it does get better the more you listen to it. I think I posted way too early. btw Even though I do not like FX I think it is interesting the way they made it. I heard that they knocked Tony's crucifix pendant against his guitar and then they added some echo effects.
shadow stalker says he wasnt insulting you lord brummington (hes sitting next to me at school now)
when you guys reckon sabbath will start work on a new album?

whatever it is i really dont like it
i hope that sabbath would start a new album in 2006, hopefully with ozzy singing

Hopefully. But I think they will not make any more albums. Ozzy is too much into the MTV busines I think... Yet it would be cool if they recorded something eg. with Tony Martin......

id still prefer ozzy singing on it, most of the MTV **** that he has been doing is almost finished anyway
but there may not be a new album as ozzy has got a solo album (bible of ozz, out sometime around january 2006) coming out so he should be doing a tour to support that
he better come to newcastle, i was well pissed last time when he had his accident and couldnt play

Huh pity he didnt come to Poland during Ozzfest like he did back in 1998. I ain't seen Sabbath live EVER :upset: :upset: :upset: ... Wasn't Bible of Ozz meant to be like another compilation like the Black Box but for Ozzy solo?
