Born Again is alot better than people make it out to be. All the jokes, Deep Sabbath and Black Purple, it was a wonderful combination! Trashed, Keep It Warm, and Digital Bitch are some killer tracks and i think Ian and Tony espically had some great chemistry together. I dont see why any diehard Sabbath fan wouldnt enjoy it.

Honestly...along with Forbidden it is Sabbath's weakest album. Iommi wanted it to be his first solo cd, thus the name Seventh Star staring Toni Iommi, but the record company thought to put the Sabbath name on it so it would sell better. Really weak songs, at least on Forbidden "Rusty Angels" is one of the best Sabbath songs ever penned. Id get Born Again over both anyday.

Sabbath is the greatest heavy metal band ever!--Without them nobody would downtune and they have been a huge influence on about every hardrock band of the last 25 years--All their albums are good cuz i have all of them even with out Ozzy--I highly recomend--Sabbath Bloody Sabbath--Heaven and Hell--Black Sabbath--Master of Reality

The Non-Ozzy albums are just as good, Toni had the bands sound more polised with the other vocalists though. The Tony Martin years are so overlooked by people.

Yes I know, the TYR album is way too underrated, of course it's the only Martin one I own but I'm assuming there all underrated. And as for Metallica it's my third (I already have the Black Album and Justice for All) but this is my favourite, something great about the whole thing (escape is a bit weak though). I wish I had discovered the music I listen to now in 7th Grade, it took me until the 10th.

I got into the classic rock n metal in like 1996 when i was like 12 and into power metal around age 15.

As for Tony Martin albums id say TYR is as good as any of them!! To many timeless tracks on there not to be!! Eternal Idol is just as good as is Cross Purposes (probley the best with him IMO). Headless Cross is good but not the best, Forbidden is a skipper yet...the song "Rusty Angels" as ive said before is one of the best songs Iommi ever penned.

From Geezer about the Setlists and how PREDICTABLE they are!!

"I mean, I think we're all desperate to do new stuff," Geezer said of the thorny subject of the SABBATH live setlist. "But Mr. Osbourne won't do it. We're dying to do new stuff. I'm almost dreading playing the same 10 songs again, so hopefully we're going to talk Ozzy into doing some things." -GZR

Yes I heard about that, one of the many reasons Ozzy is bringing sabbath down. I don't have Sabotage but I am a huge fan of Vol4, it took a while to grow on me but now I love it. I have heard Hole in the Sky, Symptom of the Universe and Megalomania from the Past Lives album though. Probably my three favourite songs so sabotage might be my next album. I was considering getting the Black Box set shipped from America to Australia though.

Someone could do with giving ozzy a slap, with songs like 'psycho man' and 'selling my soul' it's obvious that they could make more great songs.

Hehe, he does refuse to play anything from the 80's or 90's which sucks but is fair enough I s'pose.

I'd love for them to play some other Ozz-era songs though, such as Tomorrow's Dream, Megalomania, Sabbra Cadabra, Killing Yourself to Live etc...basicly what they used to play before Ozzy got old and whatnot.

I'd like to see him struggle through some Dio, Martin, Gillan and Hughes songs, they all did their best on the Ozzy songs so it'd only be fair for Ozz to do the same.

Great guy.

I have somewhere between 25-30 cds with Dio at the helm and i enjoy the majority of all of them (a few weak Dio albums here and there lol). Elf was suprienly a great find!!! Wonderful three albums he put out with them, really strong music and his vocals are still as potent as they were on those early 70's releases!! you just have to love Ronald James Padavona....oops, i mean Ronnie Dio ;)

Seeing as we have like...2 weeks left, I think we should only do one song, 2 maximum.

We need someone to play guitar (I'm looking at you Frail) and someone to sing, I can handle drums and bass.

Paranoid
Black Sabbath
The Warning

Frail - Tomorrow's Dream is a poss, I'm not really a fan of the bass part though. How I'm thinking of getting it together is taking an mp3 file of the guitar part, sticking it into Cubase, recording my bass into Cubase then programming in the drums.

Seeing as we have like...2 weeks left, I think we should only do one song, 2 maximum.

We need someone to play guitar (I'm looking at you Frail) and someone to sing, I can handle drums and bass.

Song Choices.

Heaven and Hell
Paranoid
Black Sabbath
The Warning

Thats my list, discuss/add/flame/whatever it.

:)

Do Sabbra Cadabra, because it's my favorite Sabbath song. And catchy as hell.

how come that when ozzy played with the band , Sabbath was not thrash like you know ?, dont get me wrong, they were great with ozzy,
but i heard some stuff without ozzy and it was really thrasher metal, how come they changed their style of metal when ozzy came ?

Brew
07-23-2005, 03:07 PM
I guess it all depended on the band members at the time.

For instance, when Cozy Powell was with them, he was known for being quite a fast drummer which is why they did quite a few faster songs with him.

What songs have you heard without Ozzy?

It was opnly a matter of time before some one found it absolutely nessacery to compare Zep to Sabbath. It really gets on my **** when people do that. They came from the same era,and played hard rock but thats where the similarities end.Black Sabbath, theyre "debut" if you like is so different from Communication breakdown. To show you how different they are listen to these songs Hows this for similarity

Wheels Of Confusion - Tangerine
Paranoid - Livin' Lovin Maid
Black Sabbath - Gallows Pole
Sabbath Bloody Sabbath - Trampled Underfoot

I downloaded them from various P2P's. I've got a gig from 1971, Live at Last (I consider it to be a bootleg) and a gig from 1980 with Dio on vocals and Bill Ward on drums.

Did Live At Last end up on the Past Lives album? I heard it did and a few songs on that album are of lesser quality than the rest.

I think Disc 1 of Past Lives is Live at Last. Most of the album is pretty good but its a bit crap in some parts.

The bootleg I have from 1971 includes a VERY long guitar solo/jam from Iommi during Wicked World. Its brilliant.

On the second disc i wish they put war pigs on (the version that is on story of vol 1...) i would have preferd that one rather than the version on disc 1

Warpurlgis?

Good song, slightly darker than War Pigs which is always good.

I think I have a live version of it somewhere...

Yeah I heard it from the Ozzman Cometh CD. Is that long solo/jam jazz? Cos its on Past Lives.

the only versions of Warpurlgis are on story of... dvd, The ozzman cometh and some hour long sabbath and ozzy demos i have, i think they are all different lyrically.

The lyrics are different in Warpurlgis to War Pigs, I think theres an extra verse and the order is a little different.

Isn't there also a version of Black Sabbath with an extra verse that was released on the Ozzman Cometh?

Brew

Its the original version of the song, the extra verse is really dark and quite evil, I like it alot.

Not sure if i have heard the extra verse, i know i have heard the extra verse on one of the older versions of black sabbath.

If I remember properly it had something to do with baby snatching. Wonder why they didnt release it in the final version.

Child cries out for his mother
Mother's screaming in the fire
Satan points at me again
Opens the door to push me in
Oh No!

The extra verse on Black Sabbath.

I guess I'll ask a trivia question now...

What is the only Black Sabbath song that Tony Iommi has done backing vocals on?

He also sings the vocals on Its Alright, from the Technical Ecstasy album :)

Here's one that you might not get...

Who played the harmonica on Swinging the Chain?

shadow_stalker

Probably like what shadow said - too drugged up or un-interested in the album to play it. I think the Castle re-masters credit Ozzy for playing it though.
