Whats wrong with Gillans voice?
I think that it doesn't match with sabbath, and Born again wasn't to good because of it.
But he is awsome with Deep Purple

How is Iommi's solo stuff? Any good?
rippa32
06-13-2005, 10:16 PM
Well Iv only heard samples of the Iommi album which is alright but nothing compared to sabbath and it sounds completely different too, his new one with Glenn Hughes should be good though.

Hey I found Seventh Star on vinyl for A$20 on ebay. Do ya reckon it would be worth it?
^It might be worth it. I'm not too sure.
Hey does anyone know if Black Sabbath will play at Live 8 like they did with Live Aid?
that would be pretty cool...
rippa32

It would, although they would only play Paranoid and Iron Man.

Former Black Sabbath bassist Neil Murray will be having surgery next
month for carpal tunnel syndrome. Tony Iommi had the same thing some
years ago, had the operation, and came through it fine - so here's to
hoping all goes well for Mr. Murray.
Here's something Neil wrote himself about the situation:
M3 bassist Neil Murray (ex-WHITESNAKE, BLACK SABBATH) will be out of
action during July as he has to have an operation on his left wrist
for Carpal Tunnel Syndrome, which affects the movement in his
fingers. He will be temporarily replaced for M3's festival
appearance at Open Air Hamburg Harley Days Festival on July 16 by
David Levy, who has worked with M3 guitarists Bernie Marsden and
Micky Moody (both ex-WHITESNAKE) many times before. Neil should be
back playing in the QUEEN musical "We Will Rock You" by the
beginning of August and will return for the M3 "classic WHITESNAKE"
gigs in Bildein (Austria) and Heidenheim (Germany) on August 26 and
August 27, respectively.
Never really knew any of the guys work, but get well soon all the same.

He played on the TYR album and Forbidden I think. You have TYR dont you? Speaking of TYR does anyone know how to pronounce it?
Tee-err.
Think ''Tor'', but with two E's in the middle.
I just say T Y R.
I'm back at school on Monday, I want to know which songs you guys want to cover for the comp, I'm open to anything I really don't mind. I'll program the drums on Cubase.

I would like to see Solitude done. I just personally think it's an awesome song.
In other news, I have defeated Andy in the battle of the amps. I remember when he posted a while back and said his amp went to 12, well I noticed mine goes to 15. Spinal Tap'd.

Also i don't believe you have an amp that goes to 15.
Josh -
stalker - you fayle at being a god and its Over the Mountain.
white heat - TYR is my personal fav. from the MkI Martin era, Headless Cross was a bit cheesy in some places whereas TYR is brilliance right through. Kinda power-metal-ish aswell, which is what I like.

lol. I was just listening to dehuminizer today after a while of not listening to it. Quality album if you dont have it already.
I've never downloaded a full album.
Never want to either.
Never Say Die! is a great album :)
The reasoning behind why Ozzmosis is mainly slow songs is because Ozzy was ''fed-up of being the fanged freak'' and he wanted to write+sing songs that were coming straight from his heart etc...Aimee is a beautiful song.
rippa32
06-19-2005, 07:54 AM
Yes I realise the reason and im not bashing the album. I absolutley love I Just Want You. The melody to that one is great and its interesting hearing him sing in his normal voice rather than the usual "singing" voice. I also quite like My Little Man.
I Just Want You is a real tear-jerker.
I'm making my decision for our covers by the end of tonight, if anyone wants to suggest a song please do so now, we also need someone to sing.

Does it have to be Sabbath? How bout some Dio or Rainbow?
Each Official thread is doing covers specific to that threads band, for us its Black Sabbath.
Idealy I'd like us to do as many different songs as possible, not just the Ozzy years.

Oh man, I read that as "i absolutely love and want you".
Anyway, Andy, what are some songs that are availible/you would like to do?
Seeing as we have until August 1st to get this done I'm thinking about 6 songs...
NIB
Heaven and Hell
TV Crimes
Iron Man
Sabbra Cadabra
The Warning (only a small chunk of it)
Planet Caravan
The reason behind missing the Martin years is its pretty hard to find bass tabs for that part of Sabbaths history...I want to have the definate song list decided by Wednesday.

Ipswich is the county town of Suffolk. If you're near Bristol it's diametrically opposed to where you are. Lowestoft in Suffolk is the most Easterly point of Britain. Would like to do Download next time - don't rely on responsibility from me though, you may have to stop me doing ill-advised things!
There may be a gig that we both end up going to before that - you never know. If you find yourself in East Anglia let me know.

I just ripped Born Again and The Eternal Idol from vinyl to my comp, they're both alright albums, nothing too special though. If you completly forget about everything else Sabbath have done whilst listening to Born Again, its actually a pretty good album.

haha musta missed that join date. And as for Born Again I really want it but will probably get some deep purple first. And as for Bill didnt he sing with sabbath on a couple of songs?
Bill sung on Its Alright (Technical Ecstasy) and Swinging the Chain (Never Say Die!).
Geezer and Tony did back-ups on a few songs but I can't remember which ones at the moment.

Nice Collection. Whats the one after Never Say Die? and why did you get Sold Our Souls?
After NSD! is the Greatest Hits album which I've only ever seen on cd once. Its basicly a bog standard collection of their best songs before TE was released.
All of those albums upto Heaven and Hell are my Dad's, from Heaven and Hell onwards I've bought myself. My Dad was a pretty big Sabbath fan which probably explains why he got Sold Souls...the inside of the gatefold is a good picture though.
stalker - I have paranoid on cd. I nearly bought it on vinyl once but decided not to. My Dad used to have it on cassette 'til I lent it to my friend then never saw it again, not that I'm bothered though.

i bought Paranoid on cd the other week...all the tracks on it except for Rat Salad and Hand of Doom are on the best of.

I dont see whats wrong with the Paranoid ALBUM, sure War Pigs and Paranoid get old (and Iron Man does too kinda) but the rest are great. Electric Funeral for one.

Paranoid is great, except for the title track and rat salad. But I think its preety bad compared to others. And to whoever wanted Deep Purple, I have a bunch of their stuff, I could upload some.
its a good album, but yeh war pigs and paranoid do get a bit boring.

Paranoid id say is wonderful, this comming from a man of over 30 Sabbath albums, the song Rat Salad inspired the name of the band Ratt which i thought was funny as it is a weaker Sabbath song. Hand of Doom and Electric Funeral are two of the most overlooked Sabbath gems ever written and showcase Ozzy's vocals for once on Hand of Doom. The hits are of course classics and are good for a listen every few months but i prefer the live versions of them all.
i don't have any live Sabbath, but Electric Funeral > most of the other songs on Paranoid, its so great. its also one of my favourite Sabbath songs.
/puts it on.
Sabbath in general were better live than in the studio, they always seemed to have more energy and power behind the songs.

The war pigs on ozzy's solo album 'the ozzman cometh' is way better than paranoids version.

My favourite sabbath songs would have to be war pigs, fairies wear boots and iron man, and yes i have only heard PARANOID. But i never knew how much influence they had coz alot of more modern music sounds like theres. They are the original metal gods. Just got PARANOID today actually and it's great.

Possibly, here's the plan for the night:
9.15pm - Head to the pub for a few pints
11pm - Wander over to the party, possibly smoking some weed if I can get any
11.15pm onwards - Rum drinking + having fun.
I've calmed the drunken side of my personality down a bit in recent months, so in theory it should be a fun night with minimal embarressment and studpity from me :)

Ok, I want to know who's doing what for this covers project thing, we've only got about 3 weeks left ('til August 1st) to get everything sorted.
All I know is that I'm playing bass and programming drums, I think Craig (i_am_jim_page) is doing guitar, but I'm not too sure if thats a definate.
We still need a singer.
If you can get your recordings to me in MP3 format I can hopefully get them into Cubase and mixed together with my bass and the programmed drums.
Here's my proposed song list:
NIB
Heaven and Hell
Hole in the Sky
Iron Man
Paranoid (heh...I guess we should do this)
Discuss!

I don't mean dubbing the rythm, if you listen carefully theres a second lead guitar playing on a few of his solos, its easy to tell which one wouldnt be played live(it doesnt happen the whole time) but its still annoying.

I think you should do...
paranoid (obviously)
NIB
TV crimes
and finally something from the martin era, possibly black moon or headless cross.
But if it ends up being instrumental i think you should do wicked world, because that song is built for improvising and avoid doing things like paranoid (due to the fact that it is the same riff over and over)

you see them once and you never have to again. Being a diehard Sabbath fan from EVERY era, it is upsetting to see them widdling away with Ozzy at the helm. Ive seen Sabbath since 97' and over the course of the 6 shows ive seen by them, only about 1-2 songs are taken out and replaced every tour not to mention brought back in the next time around. Ozzy can't do more than an hour on stage if he's lucky. Id like to see Sabbath tour with Dio, Hugues, or Martin.

I'd be iffy on bootleg live albums like that, i have several and some are wonderful quality that sound as good as any other live album, but there are some that you are like "well, its cool but..." I havent heard anything live from that tour, so i cant say. Always worth checking out though, whats $15? hehe
