View Full Version : To Mic or not to Mic?

Well, the band I have recently joined is going to be playing a small jam session at a music festival, and although I play many instruments for them, I have a few similiar questions.

Firstly, the gig is outdoors, on a small three to four foot stage. It's similiar to a pavilion, and there will be an estimated seventy five to one hundred people there.

I'll be playing a four peice drum set up, a harmonica, some bongos, and perhaps singing. I'm wondering if my miccing setup is going to be sufficient. I will have a small guitar amp with a microphone for vocals, harmonica, and bongos, but I'm worried about my drumset. The only muffled or tuned down drum is the bass drum, so I just want to figure out if and how I need to mic my set.

what are the other members of the band using, equipment-wise?

but for something that small, you probably don't need to mic your set, unless the other band members are playing out of massive cabs or something, and are playing really loud

outdoors, I doubt your PA will be of sufficient size to make any difference

If you can mic up WELL, do.
