Fast scaling tips

Ok, im sure a lot of you here play some Muse, right?

Well, on Butterflies and Hurricanes, the middle piano instrumental thing, i have the sheet music, but I cant seem to get the big up and down scales right. Does anyone have any tips for helping to nail this and increase my speed to the speed that Matt plays it at?

I haven't tried to play it, but in general, take your time in figuring out the fingering for the scales and practice slowly, with a metronome, and work your way up.

The old fashioned way. Metronomes, play it slower and increase your way up, and lots of practice. I'd love to tell you that giving you a tip would magically help increase your speed, but it's near impossible :-/

well by forcing yourself to play fast will only make your body wear itself out faster it you sit down and do a slow tune you shall get it in the end.
But if that bit is extremely hard make your own bit for it might sound better to yourself that way.

A big part of scaling is playing the scale with the correct fingering. Make sure your fingers are in the right places so that you don't "trip" over yourself. Your fingers are "numbered" 1 - 5, with 1 being the thumb and then consecutively through 5 at the pinky. So, in the key of C major, the correct fingering is:
1 2 3 1 2 3 4 1
C D E F G A B C
But the fingering changes based on the key you're playing in... maybe this is too much theory for you, but it's just a suggestion.

The only way you'll be able to play the interlude to Butterflies and Hurricanes at full speed is if you have a strong enough technique. To build up your technique, practice scales and, especially, arpeggios (as they're arpeggios in the interlude, not scales). Start slowly and build up, otherwise it's simply a waste of time. Do about 10 minutes a day, every day, for a few months, and you might start building it up a bit.

I can play B&H at full speed, but I have been trained in classical piano for 13 and a half years - that's the only reason. If you're just someone who has a hack every now and then for fun, and doesn't really play much classical, it will be much harder to do.
