I still dont understand why everyone incorporates Pink Floyd with Drugs?
And why almost everyone has to smoke up at a Floyd concert.

Aint the question buddy

Meh, your grammar is terrible in that sentence, so it is hard to tell what you are pointing at :p The way it is written makes it sound like you say" Most of the songs sound drug induced to them, but some dont" :eng101:

But Comfortably Numb does mislead some people.

Drugs will always be associated with Pink Floyd mostly because of the under ground physcadelic movement of the late 60s. Only one of the members really got in touch with the movement and ended up going crazy. All the other members were just in it for the music and fame.

I thought Comfortably Numb was about how one of the band members who ill during a show one night and it reminded him of when he was a child and got sick and his hands swelled up, so he wrote a song about it. I know I read that somewhere.

nope, not the way i see it.

Touring has taken its toll on Pink, who simply can't manage it anymore. Someone like a promoter or his manager has given him drugs so that he can play the show.

Their main songwriter for their first album went crazy because he used so much acid.

so you saw aussie floyd too, they were pretty great. Did they play Pulse too?
Anyway in montreal they played in the Bell centre, which is a pretty big arena where NHL hockey games are played.
I went there with my father and little brother.
After a couple of songs, you could see all the smoke building up in the top of the place. The 4 people in front of us were smoking big time and sending their smoke upwards, towards us.
My dad had to take care of them.

It's about drugs. All of it fits into the context of the album, and that wouldn't fit in to the concept.

And now comes my summarized response to the past 3 pages of this thread.

Petitions are as stupid as... I don't know. Something really stupid.

The band was best when they all worked together, started going downhill around the Animals/Wall era, in my opinion.

Drugs are funny, and people like to do them because Pink Floyd is awesome to smoke to.

The Final Cut sucks.

The Final Cut is a very good album. I know it techincally isn't Pink Floyd, because Wright is gone, but I must say it's some of their best work lyrically.

Comfortably Numb is about a time when Roger Waters performed and felt ill. He took medicine, and felt "comfortably numb" -- straight from his mouth.

I'm going to agree with DeusEx that their collaboration went down after Wish you were here. but Animals was still awesome, maybe not for non floyd fans who probobly can't stand 20 minute songs, but for floyd fans, and fans of david gilmour's guitar solos, WOW.
The Wall is a masterpiece. But maybe too much storyline, not enough music.
Let's not talk about Final Cut
The two albums without Waters were very very good musically, but again.. kind of lacked that Waters feeling to it.

What do you mean "non floyd fans" dont like Animals? Pink Floyd is one of my favorite bands and I find Animals very boring.

If a 20 minute song isn't boring it can be good. Like "Echoes", "Mountain Jam", tons of Miles Davis tunes...etc Good music is good music.

The only thing I don't like about Animals is how it's more complicated. Gilmour uses open tunings and other scales, I prefer he kept it simple, like every other album. I know it's minor, but it bothers me a little.

I still like it though, great songs. And don't get me wrong, Gilmour still does fantastic on it, but I really like the "blues riffs", pentatonic Gilmour.

I meant it the other way around, people who are not pink floyd fans generally do not like Animals
They will prefer things from The Wall or DSOTM
and Moaner, I agree that Sheep is also my least favorite song on Animals, I dont know what is the big hype about that song, Pigs and Dogs are better than Sheep. But it's still a good song.

The Wall album is 90% Roger, 10% Syd. However, The Wall movie is 80% Roger, 20% Syd. Most of the things Geldof does in the movie, like shaving his body hair, and sitting in the chair with the cigarette burning between his fingers, are things Roger saw Syd doing.

In the credits, it says Waters wrote everything entirely except for Dogs, which was a dual effort with him and Gilmour.

Zetabossio, Dark Side was written after Saucerful of Secrets and before WYWH, so that would put it in the teamwork period.

So I was at National Guitar Workshop this past week, and my Pink Floyd knowledge came in use. At one of the nightly concerts, they were asking the audience some music trivia.

One of the questions was "Who sang on the song One of These Days?

Out of around 400 people my hand went straight up and I shouted Nick Mason, winning a sparkly guitar strap. Too bad I can't use it since the glitter gets everywhere.

The 1.3Gb one is awful compared to this version. The only bad thing about the 2.32Gb one is some of the intense blue lights on a couple of songs means the band members aren't shown clearly enough. Apart from that it's great.

Ok, I just read through about twenty pages to catch up, and now I've forgotten all the things I was going to say. Well, let's see...

Oh yeah, I couldn't sleep one night and at around 2:00 AM I was just sitting in ed listening to a classic rock radio station (only station I listen to 'round here) and after some song was over it played one of those recordings like radio stations do sometimes like "If it's Pink Floyd, *sfx* it's gotta be 106.1 RDU", so I was thinking "Cool, WYWH, Comfortably Numb, Brain Damage/Eclipse, etc.", since those are the Floyd songs they play the most on 106.1. Well, it started out with wind noises, then that heavy-*** bass, and I was like "****, it's One of These Days! Awesome!"

Then when it was over, the DJ came on and was like "Yeah, you know, it's 2:00 in the morning, all the suits are asleep, so I thought I'd play you some good Floyd that we don't play much, that's off Meddle, which was released in 1971, which is also known for Echoes, which I probably won't get to play fully on here, you fans know what I mean" I couldn't believe it, a DJ that actually liked him some real Floyd :)

Oh... and... God, I forgot what else I was gonna say. On Rhapsody, it shows Pink Floyd s No. 13 in Top Artists, above 50 Cent :amaze: That's because of the post-Live 8 boom of course, I have a whole blog entry on that already, so I'll digress...

Well, I can't remember anything else, so later for now.

and i can go on about how i wouldn't want them to join in with bands i love, like the pixies. i was so dissapointed when the pixies cashed in on their reuniun. i thought they were true originals i thought they were punk and art and noise all in one.

but i'm just a stubborn indie kid i guess :( it's not that i care if they do it, but i would lose a lot of respect for them as artists

I'd still think they were great because it doesn't change the work they did before, but I agree reunion tours are lame. It's ever worse when they get exicited with the tour and try releasing another single or studio album. Look at Motley Crue. :C

motely crue tsk tsk.. it's funny because i didn't even know they really had fans untill they went on their reunion tour.

like i don't think pink floyd would ever just blatantly sell out, i think they will always play like pink floyd, i cant even picture them sounding any different then themselves... but i'm a stubborn artist, and it just seems like a reunion tour isn't about art at all

there's a difference between wanting to do something with your life musically, like if music is my life i'll be trying my hardest to get some sort of music related job or keep playing as long as i can. socially though i'd rather not have anything socially to do with music, i don't want to talk about it, i almost wihs i could be a buckethead, that way i wouldn't be a musician around my peers but i would be to myself.

it jsut seems like in my area being a musician is a total drag sort of in the way that that's the first thing everyone thinks when they see me, "he's a good guitarist i've heard" i don't think anyone really knows who i am besides one or two people... i used to wear band t shirts but then people used to always say, oh your cool you like that band... which=lamezor to the max... i was so embarassed when people would say that that i just was like wtfzor why do i even wear these lame shirts. i mean if you dig people giving you attention for your music tastes go ahead... but uh when girls go omg you like pink floyd your hot! um ... you can figure out the rest

Ok heres a story kiddies.

It was 2 years ago and I was 15 or something. I wore a Nirvana shirt on a field trip because I like Nirvana. The shirt had a picture of Kurt Cobain on it. Then these two chicks come up to me and ones like "Omg I love Chris Cobain!". I then gave a dirty look and walked away. Little did I know that 2 months later the school would be infested with kids wearing band shirts.

I think using something as beautiful as music as a mere object to obtain a higher social status is apauling. An insult to music itself. I own a few band shirts and wear them from time to time but it IS only because I am a true fan of the band I am advertising. Lucky for me I own an Animals shirt so I can atleast diferentiate myself from the 20 other kids with Darkside shirts. The moral of the story is I dont fuking know.... :C :C :C

I disagree. The reason I would ware a Pink Floyd shirt would be because I love their art work. A freind of me isn't much of a Pink Floyd fan (he likes them, but not much) but has a Pink Floyd shirt because he likes the artwork.

What does piss me off is the hundred people who ware Dark Side of the Moon shirts who upon asking them their favorite song they respond: we don't need no education.

Why do you assume that people wearing band t-shirts are doing it for social status? I wear them because I like them. If I wanted social status, I would have to stop wearing my music t-shirts (all the guys here listen to Metallica and Pantera, all the girls listen to John Mayer). Some people like to wear them, some people don't, but you certainly shouldn't judge people based on whether or not they wear a band t-shirts.

Not everyone is a huge fan of Floyd, or knowledgable in music. Sure, we can laugh at them, but saying you landed them in hospital is just foolish.

All that you touch and all that you see
all that you taste, all you feel

These lines deal with the physical things that affect people in life.

and all that you love and all that you hate
all you distrust, all you save
and all that you give and all that you deal
and all that you buy, beg, borrow or steal

These lines deal with the emotions we feel in day to day life. It also highlights the dog-eat-dog world that drives people to madness.

and all you create and all you destroy
and all that you do and all that you say
and all that you eat and everyone you meet
and all that you slight and everyone you fight

Basically, this part refers to the life you have built for yourself. You’ve created things, demolished things, everything you have done to make yourself into the person you are today (that is, a madman). All the insults you given, all the fights you’ve had, your acquaintances and your meals, etc. all have amounted to something in this person you’ve created.

and all that is now and all that is gone
and all that's to come and everything under the sun is in tune
but the sun is eclipsed by the moon

This is the most important sequence in the song. Everything that has ever happened to you, everything that will ever happen to you, everything you are doing right now, all this has seemed to be what you needed to do. You’ve done everything a sane person can, and should be happy with your life. The only problem? You’re insane.
