Pulse is pretty good.

comfortably numb of pulse is like a wonderful journey through Gilmour's playing.

Well I agree Pulse is amazing, but even on Comfortably Numb, while I do feel that its the best recording of it, Roger's part isn't the same. Its the same thing for Run Like Hell and Time on the cd.

Well I saw a vase so fine
I just had to make it mine
So I bought the whole production line

Bedposts made of pine
Several hundred dollar wine
Got to find a fancy place to dine at nine

I get my paycheck, I am fed
Now I can rest my head
And calm my heard made of lead

Only see your wife in bed
She gets your money when your dead
The only reason why you wed

I have to be the leader of the pack
You know I would stab you in the back
To buy a brand new caddillac

Bottomless money sack
Caviar as a snack
Buy your wife a new rack

Well I tend to rant and rave
About my new pricey microwave
And my driveway with a golden pave

No matter how deep you hide in your cave
You will always be a slave
Till your in your ten thousand dollar grave.

Do you guys think that sounds a little too much like money? Or is it fine.

Yea thats the part that got me thinking about it.

Roger didn't sing on Time.

As for your song, it's mostly cool, that one part that was mentioned does remind me of Money. Also, the part right before that, about stabbing in the back, and a new cadillac, reminds me a lot of Dogs.

Oh well I don't know why I thought he did. Its been a long time since I've listened to any Dark Side of the Moon song expect on Pulse, so I when I heard the singing kind of off I just assummed.

And yea I didn't think of the Dogs reference either, but its true. Yeah I mean I didn't even have the song Money in mind when I wrote it, but I would rather not have a song written where people just think I was copying Waters when I took the time to write it myself, and I figured the Floyd thread would be a good place to find it out, thanks for the input guys :thumb:

Very welcome. I wish I could write lyrics...

If you want to, well not that I'm an expert, but what I do is I think of a concept (like money, morals, or philosophy) then write out in a few sentences what I want to express. Then I take the main concepts and write down a list of words that rhyme with them, and another list of metaphors that could represent it. After that its pretty easy to put the rhymes to the metaphors and well the hardest part after that is thinking up a tital. Just some tips I use in case you want to ever try writing.

Even if your not going to put out the lyrics you should try writting, its really relaxing. Its funny how simple lifes little concepts are when everything rhymes.

Thanks, and anytime. You know speaking of the writting process of lyrics Roger's is really interesting. He seems to like to make a full circle with his writting and end the album where he began. Like with Pig on the Wing part one and two, or Shine on You Crazy Dimond being slipt up and put on the different ends of the album. I think he did that on purpose because I think Pig on the Wing part one and two were suppose to be one song at one time, because I have a recording of it where they two parts are connected by a solo in the middle, and it all fit.

I have some money, and of course I want to spend it on Pink Floyd stuff... but I don't know what.

There are the DVD's (the one about the making of DSOTM, the one about Syd Barrett, and one of the band talking of how they feel about each album [Dave saying that he hates Atom Heart Mother]) or there are the albums, and I don't know which one to get.

Oh yeah, I've heard Hey You. Awesome song.

I want the wall, but I can't cough up the $30+ dollars now, and I need some new Pink... the only reason I got the movie was because it was on sale.

Eh the Division Bell didn't do much for me. I agree that the Wall isn't like usual Floyd (except some songs), but its lyrics have such a hold on me. Thats almost like Starting a n00b with Piper At The Gates of Dawn. Its hard to listen to any Floyd album in a random order (for your first time) and gain a respect for them...enough to go right to another and like it just as much. That why i stated in the post-Barett...then worked my way backwords.

When i sugest Floyd to my friends...i give it to them one at a time starting at DSOTM...and they usually dont accept it at first. Once they start talking about how great it is., i might give them the wall or animals...and work around the way they progress

Then it would probably be your favorite Guitar solo after you heard me play the vocal solo on guitar :p (yes, i do know it)

But the intro to Time is on tympinis or bongos i think, but the drums in the middle of the money solo were roto toms (i think). I know they werent his regular drums, and they set-up something brand new to them.

Best solos comes up too often in this thread, but i still havent heard comfortbly numb live........

Cheak it out on Pulse, or if you want to hear it with the whole band The Wall Live, and if you want to hear a different interpretation, but a good one, Roger Waters In The Flesh Live (though listen to it with Gilmour first)

But still look for the antologys, they even have some of the animation they used to play at live shows. Well, what's yer favourite line of one of PF's songs? The one that got my attention was "And if the band you're in starts playing different tunes" from Brain Damage. At the time I was getting into Floyd, the band that I was in started to actually play different stuff, and little by little I was going out of the picture, and I, along the bassist of the band, got replace by two others, who were willing to play Metallica and Green Day.

Yea, I was the problem child in my band. The bassist was just lazy.

You can read so deeply into this it's ridiculous.

Dark Side of the Moon is great, but I find myself identifying more with the lyrics to the Wall. As sombody who is constently fustrated with school, government, and the things people use to fill the empty spaces, I find when I listen to the Wall I feel like Roger is talked directly to me. Its almost like he knows me and is putting them in words that make the hard parts of life not seem so difficult. Like I've said before its kind of funny how all of lifes little problems and complex parts seem just so simple when everything rhymes and has a melody.

The wall is good lyrically...and is great for being a rock opera, but i dont think its near one of floyds best albums. It just seems more of a bunch of songs about a theme, rather then their concept albums, which sort of mold together (both lyrically and song-wise), and i just cant imagine 70s floyd releasing an album with a bunch of songs thrown on it.

But it is a piece of art though...maybe my 4th or 5th favorite floyd album

Im planning on getting Umagumma next...but honestly have never seen it in a store in my life. I dont even know what the album cover looks like (or i may not have known it was if i saw it). Still, i really want to get that before atom heart mother or the final cut

The Final Cut is overrated. Seriously. I would recommend getting any other Floyd album before The Final Cut. Lyrically, its great. But musically, its VERY substandard.

Its one of my favorite albums. There's something amazing about it, just the way it was recorded and how they played it is awesome. I'm talking about the live disc. The studio album is cool too, pretty sweet songs on there.

You guys should get it, Echoes too.

I think so too. It feels like you're listening to them in a 60's club in London. Which IMO is better than seeing them in an arena or something.

I don't think its overrated I think its status is just fine. I've never heard a single person say a good comment about it with out a bad comment about the instrumentals. I'm not saying that they are good, because they arn't. But yeah I would't get it unless you like Roger's solo career, or just want to finish your collection. But don't expect anything good, even the lyrics arn't as good by Waters standereds.

They put it on the re-issue of The Final Cut aswell.

I've not heard too many good things about it. Is it more orchestral and less of the classic Pink Floyd sound? That seems to be what I hear a lot..

Basically, the songs line up somewhat with the events in the movie. To try it yourself, just get yourself the 25th Anniversary DVD edition of the Wizard Of Oz, and preferably the Anniversary edition of DSOTM as well.

When the MGM Lion roars for the third time, press play.

It isn't groundbreaking, but there are some good moments. You should like it.

Apparently (I havn't bothered to try it), if you start the album on the thrid roar of the MGM Lion, things will happen in the movie that corrolate with what the lyrics are saying.

 Yea I think that the album was just an ego thing by Roger, and didn't want to admit it was crap. A lot of those tracks were suppose to be on the Wall, but Gilmour put his foot down.

You know those new songs for brodway sound an awful lot like the Final Cut, I think Waters did a great job on the Wall, but thank god Gilmour was there to put his foot down on some of his worse ideas.

You know I was listening to Saucerful of Secrets off Ummagumma today and you know I never really thought about it before but that song really is brillent. Everybody for most of the song is just trying to get whatever sound out of their instrment that they can. Wright isn't even playing piano, hes just bashing the keys. And then at the end they bring it all together with Gilmour's amazing vocals on it (his best work in my opinion).

Its kind of like The Final Cut where its not Pink Floyd as much as a solo album relased under Floyds name for whatever reason. Its great instrumentally, but its lacking with lyrics (kind of like The Final Cut, but the other way around). Its a great album, but not a great Pink Floyd album, it that makes any sense.

I inherhited (sp?) my dads vinyls when he died, and he had a few Pink Floyds I immediatly snatched up. he had Relics (with the alternate cover of those face things), A Nice Pair, Wish You Where Here, The Final Cut, and i had to buy DSOTM and the Wall from this guy i know. And i am still looking for other Floyd vinyl stuff.

no, Momentary Lapse of Reason was like The Final Cut. Because Final Cut was like Waters solo and MLOR was a Gilmour solo. Divison Bell had the whole band on it(except Waters of course).

True but thats why I made the compared it to Final Cut, the Division Bell is the whole band but without Roger, Final Cut is Roger but in a way with out the band. I mean there were songs where they added things to the record, but they are few and I think Waters took a lot of control of it.

And on Live At Pompeii it is the most interesting song to watch. I like the part where they show Rick smashing the piano keys with his elbows and the palm of his hands like if he was a 6 year old who starts to play on his family piano, thinking that he is actually making music. And of course, when Dave sits down with his guitar and just plays around with it, as well as Water's bannging that gong like there was no tomorrow. Mason's part was a bit boring, but good, nonetheless.
