live versions of run like hell don't sound as good on the cds, but when i heard the aus Floyd do their live version, it was much better, they added a sweet drum solo at the end, with cool lazer effects. my dad was even saying that they might even be better sounding live than Pink Floyd because he went to one of their concerts in the '70s and said that Aus Floyd sounded better live.

Buy Meddle first. That's my opinion, but I like the songs on Meddle more. Even though I like PATGOD also, I prefer the band without Barrett, because his songs were usually shorter and more poppish.

It's true. Aussie Floyd were great imitators, sounded like songs were ripped right off the albums. Which is okay, I guess. The show was all about the Lights though. No lazers, just an amazing light show with cool stuff projected behind. They did have an extended Comfortably Numb solo, but I'm sure still do they same one for every gig. Carefull With That Axe, Eugene was extended to an epic song too.

I have a question:
Do the songs on Wish You Were Here flow into each other, like the songs on Dark Side of the Moon?
Yes and No. Shine On You Crazy Diamond (I-IV), Welcome To The Machine and Have A Cigar all blend in somewhat, but the music stops for the beginning of Wish You Were Here, and you hear people talking...

I don't think the songs on WYWH are made to all meld together, but they have put little transitions in to make the songs flow easily I would say.
I think it is pretty cool as it is. Gilmour added a sweet little meld on DSOT though.

Go to features, then Odds N' Sods. Then "Previous Covers"
To the right, there will be 3 icons, the usual Back. and main menu ones, and a 2 headed dog. You click it and a picture of the dog from the Howling Dog Blues thing appears. With 2 heads. And lights flash.

if its the dog from howling dog blues, then maybe it has that effect where each side of the picture is symetrical...sometimes floyd used that effect, but if you look closely, see if both side are just mirror images of them selves (if theres a backround behind the dog)

I never said I was afraid of dying.
EDIT: Think about it, was Waters going around telling people to say scary messages into the microphone? Nope, he was asking people questions about life and death, and probably asked the question "Are you afraid of dying?"
Doesn't that make more sense?

No, i was just bored one day...in the process of learning the whole album (which i know well now), so i just got my guitar, went to the computer, played the song over and over and over again, and tabbed it out as i went.
I mustve listen to that woman scream over 100 times...but i added some other stuff in there of my own and gave it sort of an edge. I have it on Word...my very rough draft, and as i kept practicing it, i fixed it up myself without canging the tab.
I dont plan on releasing it anytime soon (my reasons are my own), but its really simple. My guitar termolagy might be off, but its on the pentatonic scale, almost entirely around the 12th fret, which you can just barre almost the entire time (with the root note on the 12th string on the G string).
I should really practive it again soon...maybe today, since im starting to loose my edge on Money too

I think DSOTM is the perfect introductory album for Pink Floyd. It's very 'listener friendly.' In fact, if it wasn't for that album, I wouldn't be into Pink Floyd.

After i got used to all the albums from 73-79, their major concept albums, it was sort of hard to cope with their pre-DSOTM works, but after listening to each song, its sort of trippy in its own individual way...so i found it easy to get used to quickly.

yeah, i don't see whats so good about it too, people are always talking about the guitar solo on Time and other things from the album but their stuff off of Meddle or Animals is a lot more complex. i think all it is is DSotM is so calm and relaxing, compared to their other stuff, a great album to mellow out to or other things.

You know I've been thinking about it, and Pink Floyd really stopped working good together as a band after Meddle. In their pre Meddle days all the instruments played a huge role. As they went on the instrumentals dropped off until after they broke up.
eh?
All the instruments are used on both of the Shine on you crazy Diamonds. Dogs brilliantly fuses the guitar and keyboard. I would say the instruments dropped off from "The Wall" to "MLOR".

Your right about Shine on you crazy Diamond, but for a cd that has three 10 min+ songs on it Gilmour dominated a lot (not that thats a bad thing), their other 10 min+ songs all the instruments play their own part.

Actually the more I think about it, the more I realize that Wright dominated that album.
He was the backbone of SOYCD
He pwnz Welcome to the Machine
He has amazing synths on Have a Cigar
But he is missing on WYWH.

I always find their albums (more their latter stuff) that the ending song ties in with the begining song and it just creates such a nice such a nice loop (the first 14 seconds of In The Flesh and Outside the Wall, or Pig on the Wing 1 and 2), its like reading a book.

4. Opeth- Blackwater Park

Well most floyd stuff is pretty diverse, but a best song to learn on guitar which is easy but sounds really good is money from DSOTM.
Pink Floyd are my favourite band and I am a huge fan. I dont think there is a band even close to Floyd in my top ten. Even though I am a big fan of Gilmours guitar work my favourite song by Floyd has to be Us and them. It is really calm and relaxing.
My top 10 list of Floyd songs would probably be us and them, comfortably numb, shine on you crazy diamond part 1-5, careful with that axe eugune, dogs, wish you were here, echoes, young lust, great gig in the sky and time.

Yesterday, in the pit, somebody (i think tiger) had a thread titles "_____is____" on googlism.com. You type in your username and a ton of info comes up it find able to fit the sentence. I didnt reply, but i did it for echoes, and the last one on the page was "echoes IS a song released but never played on the radio again for 10 years".
I didnt know it was released (due to timing), but id do anything to get our station to play it, since nobys i know, young or old, says they have ever heard that song, even floyd fans and my parents.

Am I the only one who thinks that Darkside of the Moon was extremely overrated? Granted, it was good, but people only seem to listen to "Money". My favorite song on it is Brain Damage, but honestly, it just doesn't seem right to have to label a favorite song on a Pink Floyd album. I could never list a favorite song from "The Wall" - whenever I play it, I play it in its entirety. Sometimes I listen to it on the bus on my way to school, and have to secretly play disc 2 all through my homeroom and 1st period class. Well worth it, anyway. Great music.

It is still stupid to say it isnt PF without Roger. I dont care about your "oh it is his opinion" arguement. They wrote lyrics before Roger took over, and they did it again without him. Saying the band isnt the band because he took over for 4 out of 14 albums(this doesnt even count most of the soundtracks) and left is just retarded.

u must be talking about rolling stones reviews. They had one on animals i saw too...terrible reviews. They said how floyd used to look to space as their solution to problems, and here they talk about drowning and similar stuff.
I ****ing hate rolling stones
Oh it was just on a site my friend was showing me I didn't know that was Rolling Stone......though I should have guessed. You know ever since I became a member here my hate for Rollling Stone has grown so much.

Well, Rolling Stone magazine also said that Hendrix was a cheap, flashy guitarist widing on the psychedelic wave. Gave him absolutely awful reviews. And now they're saying he's the best guitarist ever. So, don't bother paying attention to RS.
They also panned the blues Zeppelin did on LZ I and II, then panned Zep III and said they should go back to blues.

They just go with whatever is popular, they are the worst influence on people who listen to music of all time, and probally the cause for all those crappy mainstream bands.

If you want to get passed blocked sites, go to https://proxify.net and enter whatever site you want to go to through that. It works for my school.
Hey, thanks for that, Imma try it tomorrow. But our school probably blocked it already...haha. Anyways, the librarian monitors the computers throughout the school, so if I'm using that, that may not be too good. Well, thanks.

Posting on sptunik doesn't add to your postcount here, no. And on the topic of Pink Floyd's early reviews, it's really weird how badly WYWH and Animals were recieved as far as I'm concerned. They seem to have been universally seen as a bit disappointing, even though now a lot of people, and especially Floyd fans, see them as the band's best work. The Wall got a rather mixed reception as well. What can we learn from this? Just ignore anything and everything The Rolling Stone says.
For the longest time Animals was my favorite cd. Now my favorite is divided into Meddle for its instrumentals, The Wall for lyrics, and Saucerful of Secrets for overall greatness.
Ignore Rolling Stone and Kerrang! I reckon.

Rolling Stone does reviews for a little thing called, hmm what was it... money. They can't review, they can't make lists, and they have no idea what they are talking about. Because of Pop culture, they have somehow become the most popular music magazine, but don't listen to them.
The reviews by your fellow MXers are way better. Check out Sputnik. I've done a few reviews, including A Saucerful of Secrets and Zep IV.

DSOTM could use a re-reviewing. Last time i read it, it was terrible, and didnt include enough facts for such an revolutionary album.
I would get dibs on Obscurred by clouds, but im still yet to own the CD. Its my next buy though. Hell, maybe ill get it with my next internet order.

Just bought Animals today and listened the entire album. Favourite treack: Dogs. But I still find WYWH more pleasing, and is still my favourite PF album.
Next buy: I'm thinking 'The Wall,' either the movie or the CD.

Actually, Rolling Stone said that The Wall was the best album of the 1980s.
Even though it was released in '79.

I did a review of Animals on a separate site. I haven't checked the one on Sputnik, but I doubt mine is any better. I just liked it enough to review it myself.

 That's brilliant. But Rolling Stone aside, I'm sure it wasn't recieved universally well. I just found a quote from a music magazine called Sounds, which said at the time of The Wall's release, "From no little Floydian experience, I can assure you with confidence that this is the worst Pink Floyd album ever." Sometimes you've just got to wonder how people become music critics...
Because they are critics. For some reason magazines want people that will pan everything. It actually sells.

Critics are just bitter musicians who couldn't make it themselves, so they take out their frustration by bashing other musicians. My uncle is like that, he talks trash about SRV all the time, and says that any average blues guitarist could do what SRV could, but he's just very jealous that he didn't get big.
