That could be easier. I mean like, I got a whole load of CD's I want them to sign, although my mum said I might need to cut it down a bit. Plus, all my friends would want something signed, and if I was like 'Do you have any plectrums?' and pull a sweet smile they might think that was better than having to sign a whole load of other stuff.

i think if derek does get a song (im bringing this back from a LONG time ago) it should be an acoustic track on their next album...or maybe acoustic w/ some snare work...something different that the trio usually doesn't do would be fun....maybe acoustic guitar, upright bass, and some snare stuff i dunno...for one track i think it'd be pretty cool but i know his voice goes well with acoustic guitars

HitHardDrums55

He did record it upright. It says so in the S/T cover. And Alkaline Trio fans probably wouldn't be to impressed if they copied Blink.

billiejoe84

I would put both Skiba/Delonge and Grant/Barker about level actually. Tom and Travis tend to get flamed because people resent their popularity, but seriously, all four are good at what they do.

Although Matt is a better singer than Tom. :thumb:

HitHardDrums55

i actually like to believe that skiba and grant are more creative than delonge and barker...not to say delonge and barker aren't good...but if you listen to em back to back you can see who the more creative band is...barker is probably quicker than grant, but grant has more technique and style and can definately mix genres into the alk3 style...i dont know much about guitar, but i personally like the way skiba plays better than delonge...

and i didnt even realize that was the same thing as blink until you guys pointed it out :( if they put their own spin on it though it'd be different...which it already would be a little bit, as if it was how i imagined it, it would be ALL snare work (unlike I Miss You), the drummer singing, and probably a bit faster

Pazz
11-23-2005, 08:59 PM

Well, I'd apply what you said about the drummers to both of them. Barker is fast as ****, but I think Grant is clearly more inventive and better at fitting his beats to the song. Ditto Delonge: He is capable of playing stupidly fast riffs (see some old-school live stuff for proof of this) but I think generally Skiba riffs are a bit more consistently fitting to the song. I guess it depends what you look for - balls-out energy or fitting the song, and I think there's time for both in my mind, which is why I put both level.

i think matt's voice is the best of the four, but i think mark is better than dan especially in the earlier stuff...dan's getting better...but when playing ability kicks in dan is 150% better than mark...i dont think tom's that bad, just the worst of the 4...

i wish MY band could get together...one of our guitarists sold his strat on ebay and might be buying our keyboardist's gibson from him...our bassist is in NY and our keyboardist is in Germany....and our singer won't get singing lessons until he gets the money so thank god you cant hear local bands vocals too well live :)

I saw them last night.
I was greatly disappointed. Don't get me wrong, it was a great show, but it could have been so much better. Clavicle was probably the only old song they played (pre-MICF), and they didn't play so many of my favourites.

I screamed for them to play Every Thug Needs A Lady, and I saw Matt was about to play a G chord, and was all , but it turned out to be I Was A Prayer.

if my band did an older alk3 song and we either included keys, violin, synth, or sax (we have a member who plays all 4, and he's learning more i think pretty soon), what do you guys think would be a good song to cover and what should zac use on it? he can do keys and synth together if necessary

Oz Rembrandt
12-04-2005, 05:17 PM
Exploding Boy is a Cure song which has some synthesizer in it, its from Alkaline Trio.

HitHardDrums55
12-04-2005, 05:52 PM
im talking about a song the trio actually wrote...although their version of exploding boy is pretty amazing...i cant decide which ones better either...

but yeah we will more than likely cover a cure song too....maybe one of their darker songs to do something different than what every other cure cover i've ever heard. ive only heard covers of songs like lovesong and boys dont cry...zac wants to do Killing an Arab though, not really dark, but it is a cool song

Chilly-Bean-Bop

Hrm, you of course have the songs from Crimson. Uhh, Crawl has a bit of keys in it at the end.

Its a pretty dark song.

I have a cover of the Hanging Garden by AFI too.

Much love for the Cure.

HitHardDrums55

the afi version of hanging garden is pretty swell...havent listened to it in a while...and yes, the cure deserves MUCH love from everybody in the hizouse

but for the trio cover, i was thinking either from god dammit or self titled...maybe MICF...i dunno

does this ever happen to you guys: all my subscriptions have been deleted and now i have to search for everything again, is there a way other than searching for everything a posting in it to restore all my subscriptions? this is the 2nd time it's happened

my friend zac is better live on keys than the guy who does the keys for alk3, he actually plays every part of Time To Waste, the other guy just plays the basic notes and none of the hard stuff if any of you have seen them play it live on conan obrian

The fact that he doesn't do it live doesn't mean he can't. It might just have been part of the routine, or whatever.

The guy who plays keyboard for Alk3 told me he though your friend was sh!t

HitHardDrums55
12-05-2005, 06:24 PM
dood i was just messin around...i gotta give the guy props for writing that, it's cool as hell

but zac is practically a musical genious he can play guitar, bass, keys, sax, violin, cello, could easily learn upright bass cause its so similar to cello, several different percussion instruments, and he's about to learn drums...and he's a pretty good singer too when he tries...and he can play time to waste note for note on keys...we walked in an electronics store that had a keyboard and he started playing it and it was awesome sounding...he did admit that it was a hard song though

Chilly-Bean-Bop

Did he learn Time to Waste by ear? I wanna learn how to play it.

I'm guessing they are both from the acoustic show in London?
I know that the deluxe version of Crimson uses the Sadie from that show.

with yousendit...why do you have to put hxxp instead of http? anytime there is an http link it works for me...

EDIT:
OK cheers.

Is that any good? Apart form Warbrain?
yeah, it's better than a lot of compilation CDs in my opinion...its got a re-recorded version of an Offspring song (Baghdad...used to be Terhan), the NOFX song isnt on any other CDs its really cool, i'm almost positive Jello Biafra sings one of the songs on there...it sounds a lot like him at least when my friend plays his copy in the car on the way to school...i havent looked at who all is on it in a while or listened to my copy...but if you like the bands on there then you will like most of it...plus, its about half as much as a regular CD i dont know how much that is in europe, but in the US its $7 when a full length CD is from $13-$19

HitHardDrums55

well my only band that ever played in front of people had 2 bass players, no official singer (much less lyrics)...a friend of the guy who recruited me improvises lyrics for his band so he sang for us that was cool...and our guitarist was just getting into being straight edge after cleaning up on all the stuff he had been doing before...we had one pracitce with a show already scheduled (the old drummer bailed, and i had never heard these guys and i only knew one of them), me and the guitarist both got grounded pretty quickly after first practice and i got off restriction the day before our gig...we got kicked off stage after 3 songs and im still trying to decide if it was cause we sucked too bad and nobody liked us, or if they told the truth (it WAS at a church) and we just refused to play quieter

thats why this band is gonna take time to learn stuff before we schedule any shows or anything im kind of in charge of this band so i'll know when we're ready

No, you should name him something different, just so as you don't go along with prevailing opinion. Call it Saddam... no kid is called that.

God damn, I love taking different views from everyone else.

sh!tty. but really fun anyway. and im glad i had the experience man! cause now im not scared to go on stage at all with a GOOD band, because now i know there is nothing worse than what i had.

and these guys were into hardcore/straight edge and no covers at all, needless to say i stuck to my promise of playing the upcoming gig with them, but i quit the band immediately afterward...this new one will have a trio cover or 2 and will hopefully be better than all the other bands who did trio covers that ive heard

billiejoe84
12-07-2005, 07:14 PM
Oooh. What covers?

I demand recordings.

Mainly as I love hearing covers of 'big band' songs. Also nobody on here ever gave a crap about hearing my band's songs from our first gig, so I try to make up for it by listening to other people's stuff.

HitHardDrums55
12-07-2005, 08:05 PM
we havent decided yet...but our singer is the only guy who isnt big into the trio...me and the keyboardist/violinist/syth guy/whatever else he will be doing for us/probably recording guy are HUGE into alk3...he'd probably be a member of mx if he had a computer that wasnt crap...when we get our stuff together we'll get it recorded though
