Listened to a few tracks off Crimson yesterday. All in all, a good sounding, catchy album, not exactly FHTI or Goddammit, but still good.
I'm looking for Crimson on Soulseek now. :)
The one on Soulseek is in a huuge que. Could someone send it to me over AIM? :)

The only thing I don't like about new Alk3 is that both singers voices don't stand out at much.
The songs are great though, I have the first 3 tracks and Bleed is definitely my favorite. I am actually going to wait and buy this when it comes out. I especially like the piano on some tracks.

It's not great song writer, it is great song writers.
I ****ing hate it when people leave out Dan and Derek, especially seeing as Dan sings almost half of the songs. He deserves at least as much credit as Matt, and Derek does a lot to the writing of songs, and he handles the bands website. They are all cool and deserve credit, not just Matt.
Dan has some songs that are as good as, if not better than, Matts best.

I think my favourite off that album has to be Time to Waste or Mercy Me. I love the part where Dan comes in, I really love his singing voice.

With Alk3, I like the vocals like this for Dans songs live;
Dan singing his lyrics
Matt screaming the lyrics over the top
Matt has a lot of aggression in his voice, whereas Dan's voice is a lot more romantic and emotional. They are both great for when I am in different moods.

Depends, if you like bands like Blink and Green Day, try Good Mourning or From Here To Infirmary. If you like more of a rough sound, try Goddammit or Maybe I'll Catch Fire.

I like Mercy Me, I Was A Prayer(first song of Dan's that I really really like), Your Neck, and Smoke.
I'm disappointed with Sadie. I like the older version better.
Time To Waste is going to be the single. Heard the song on KROQ, yeah, I couldn't believe it either.

I'm surprised that's the single, it's a bit dark for a single I think. I was expecting Burn to be the single

Nah, i expected it to be the single, it's got that edge imo, it's definetley my favourite song of theirs off the new album
I dunno, it is one of my favourite because it is quite fast and has some nice lyrics, but I am a sucker for the faster pace of Back To Hell

I have a question about the new album before I go out and buy/download it.
Is the style more similar to Good Mourning (darker kind of) or is it closer to, say, FHTI (more upbeat songs)? I am going to get it either way. I just wanted to know before hand so there's no surprise.

Hey, what's everyones favourite Alkaline Trio lyrics. Like, small parts of songs. There are far too many for me to list them all, so here a the first few that I can think of.
"We're nowhere near prepared, there's no way of knowing,
Why don't they just admit they're scared? Because it's already showing."
"Cracked my head open on your kitchen floor, to prove to you that I have brains"
"Before you left I said that you can bet I'll be bothering you soon,
You said 'No bother, please do'."
"Even Christ himself would cringe at the sight of your scars"
"What's upside down? What's coated in silver? This crucifix is my four leaf clover"
"I'm just trying to relax, as the killer's waiting right outside my door"
"You know it starts here, outside waiting in the cold, kiss me once in the snow, I swear it never get's old"
"Waking up next to nothing, after dreaming of you and me, waking up all alone, waking up so relieved"
"Take your wings outside, you can't fly in here"
"Bless me dark father I have sinned, I've done it before and I'll do it again"
"I'm not much of a jester, but I'd test poisoned food for you, your majesty, you're royal blue, I'm royalty, my king of pain"
"Intending to burn, pretending to fight it, everyone learns faster on fire, things took a turn, lost all desire, you live and you burn"
"Send us back to hell, we've had our fill of heaven, give us back our sins"
"Never had a drink that I didn't like, got a taste of you, threw up all night"
"Why is it that you never said, 'I love you more than just a friend', I pray this gridlock never ends, and how we get there just depends"
I cannot be bothered writing any more right now. If a lot of people reply to theirs, I may write some more of mine.

Lyrics (Alkaline Trio wright some of the best methinks)
"Head Like An Empty Sterile Room, Somehow I made a Mess. Like Watching New Born Babies Crack from Work Releted Stress"
"Cracked my head open on your kitchen floor, to prove to you that I have brains"
"Even Christ himself would cringe at the sight of your scars"
"What's upside down? What's coated in silver? This crucifix is my four leaf clover"
"I'm not much of a jester, but I'd test poisoned food for you, your majesty, you're royal blue, I'm royalty, my king of pain"
"There are things that used to make me laugh, but now they're deeply buried in the Past"
"I used to long for Broken Bones, Used to Long for a Casket to call my own"
"What ever happened to that silly dream I had? I'd love to make it real. I'd love to rub your back"
"step one: slit my throat
step two: play in my blood
step three: cover me in dirty sheets
and run laughing out of the house
step four: stop at lake michigan
and rinse those crimson hands
you took me hostage you made your demands
i couldn't meet them so you cut off my fingers
one by one"
I'll post more later

simplephotographinthesun
04-16-2005, 11:26 PM
"i don't hear from you no more, but i get the message. you crashed your car through my front door, i pulled you from the wreckage. you told me that you missed me, but you meant with the grill and hood."
"i don't dream since i quit sleeping. and i havent slept since i met you. and you cant breathe without coughing in daytime, well neither can I, so what do you say? Your coffin or mine?"
"did i remember to sleep in? take lots of pills, commit irreversible sins? did i at least try to kiss the prettiest girl at the right time?
"i dragged this lake looking for corpses, dusted for printed, pried up the floor boards, pieces of plane and black box recorders dont lie. and ive been pre-occupied with these sick sick senses that sense DNA on barbed wire fences. maybe someday i'll find me a suspect that has no alibi."
"soon ends our stay here and its been fun, so tonight ill raise my glass to us. 'cause we talked so much i think we filled this ashtray twice. and i'm pretty sure we emptied every bottle in the place..."
"do you remember when they both drove out of state? stealing kisses behind her cousin's back, with a love so strong tell me who could wait?"
"so close to perfect, swear to hell thought it was you. well this bouncing baby boy's now turning baby blue."
"im like a broken record, i've got a needle scratching me. it injects the poison of alcohol IV."
"i got a letter in the mail, resender failed to let me know where it came from. opened it up and sure enough there we were arm in arm again."
"you came to me like a dream
the kind that always leaves,
just as the best part starts
it ends so abruptly.
and leaves you stunned and naked in your bedroom all alone.
it's kinda funny how something so soothing
gets interrupted by the ring of a telephone."
"**** you Aurora,
You took my only friend.
You wont catch me behind the wheel of a Chrysler ever again. "
"I found out recently that you are leaving
For good I hope I softly tell my ceiling"
"Most exciting thing I do - hang half way out a third floor window,
maybe throw lit cigarettes down.
And maybe I'll catch fire,
something warm to hold me,
something pure to burn away the darkness that hides inside my mind.
All that evil ****'s not hard to find
I guess I only claim to be nice."
"One of these days
it's gonna catch up to you
Throwing looks like those around
One of these nights
I promise to you
I'll soon be sleeping sound,
as soon as I leave town"
"This place would be busier than O'Hare
There's proof in the sky
...
If the chip off your shoulder should fall to your chest
Get it off right away
Cause if you don't then it won't be in peace that you rest"
...and theres more

I believe that they are some of the best, but not the best. They have had a few drummers though, so do you mean just Derek, or their past drummers as well? Mike Felumlee was a pretty good drummer as well.

Derek Grant often says that the Alkaline Trio's first drummer was better than he was, but he still loves playing the old stuff (Drum Fill in Good Bye Forever). Dan Andriano is an incredible Bassist though. He alternates between simple basslines, to really interesting ones (like Mr. Chainsaw :D).

i bought a real copy of Good Mourning the other day, it has a loverly shiny booklet...
i don't know why, but i'm going through a phase of buying copies of CDs i already have, just to have the case and stuff... i suppose its because it looks better on my shelf having all the CDs with the names and stuff instead of just blank cases.
i'm so sad :upset:
I do that. I haven't burnt an album in so long. I like owning the CD because it makes me feel better about downloading it I guess, plus I feel like I'm supporting the band a lot better
Untitled

I hate downloading. if i download an album i make a consiouse effort to buy it and actully support the band, unless i dont like it, then i just delete it.
I don't feel that guilty about downloading, because without the aid of downloading, I'm certain I wouldn't own a lot of CDs that I own now. Also, I buy merch and go to shows, which generally costs more than a CD. I'd rather be able to sing the songs and show my appreciation for the band by going to shows and wearing the merch than buying a CD and staying at home

From Here To Infirmary has been my favorite for a long time, but lately I have been listening to ungodly amounts of Good Mourning. So maybe that is my favorite right now. "Continental" is now my favorite off of that album. It keeps me coming back and listening to it more.

What can I say? I love Alkaline trio. I just bought tickets to see them play at the Irving Plaza, how exciting. Other then that, I think both Matt and Dan have great voices. They do such a good job when they blend their voices into one. They sound great in songs like, While You're Waiting and Trouble Breathing.
Also, I'm a bass player and I think Dan is quite good at bass, nothing to drool over but he's above average. For people who own the ALK3 dvd, they know what I mean. Dan rips up some pretty fast basslines in that dvd. I mean, he even speeds up Goodbye Forever, and I think we all know how fast the recorded version is? it's quite fast.
P.S.
Have any of you guys heard the new album? I'm quite happy with the turn out of it. It's earning great reviews everywhere. It's such an improvement from Good Mourning.

You need Maybe I'll Catch Fire, Goddammit (too lazy for swear filter) and Crimson, and if your country doesn't get the bonus tracks on MICF and Goddammit, then you need to buy the self titled also.
The splits aren't necessary, but good for the big fans who love the trio.

The last split they did with One Man Army was amazing. They made some of their best songs on that cd. I don't think Dan will ever make a better song then If You Had A Bad Time, and I don't think Matt will ever make a better song then Sadie. Both of those songs are just amazing.

Sadie is on Crimson, and normally people don't like buying cds with only 5 or so songs by a band they like unless they are a big fan. Especially when it only apperas to be sold for like £15 whenever I see it. Although you can get it on the internet.

Saves the day has gone through 4 drummers and 2 bass players. I guess they're just hard to keep.

I think that with drummers, they aren't as influential to the band normally. So when a band loses one, they can be replaced. If you lose a lead guitarist, or singer, it is hard to carry on the band, so I just think that any bands who lose other members just fail as bands.

Like when TBS lost john nolan, you could tell the impact.
chumpradio
04-26-2005, 04:31 PM
Yeah, with a lot of bands, the drummers don't make as much of an impact. If Blink lost Travis now though, I think they couldn't carry on. Or if Green Day lost Tré. Those drummers seem to do a lot during the song writing processes and help the band a lot.

So, anyone hear the trio on Lock Up (BBC Radio 1) last night? I know me and Lillie were listening, and were in the chat room. I was a little dissapointed by all the fans talking endless crap in there, not giving Derek a chance to answer any questions...
Still, the radio talk was fairly interesting, except for worrying comments of getting to number one in the UK and going "mainstream". Sounded like they wanted it to happen

Dude, the fact that a band wants to be sucessful shouldn't worry you. Unless they completely change their sound to what's popular, or they ''sell out''. Which they havn't.
I snapped and downloaded their new album so I have something new to listen to when I'm revising. I really really like it. I'm gonna buy it when it's officially released.

I find it hard to compare the albums. They are both amazing, and of similar styles. If you love GM, get From Here To Infirmary and Crimson. Then try out Maybe I'll Catch Fire, Goddamnit and the self titled. MICF, God.... and s/t are all of a more raw sound, and a lot faster, rather than the polished and slower sounds of the more recent albums.

There is another song that they have recorded definately, as well as We Can Never Break Up, which was the Bside of Time To Waste.
Put your cd into your pc, and on the making of video, there is a song called Pewk, and you can hear a clip of a different song which isn't on Crimson, and isn't We Can Never Break Up.
I think it's bad that they stopped their trend of UK bonus tracks. :( These songs should have been on our cd.
