They have no reason to be out and getting wasted all the time now. they've grown up, and Matt and Derek are married. They're not the kids they were.

Alot of bands seem to maturing and growing up now.

Hi My Name Is Mark
05-06-2006, 09:07 PM
probably because the newer bands suck and have no true creativity (for the most part at least), so all the bands who have been around for years of course are staying big, while newer bands have a popularity level very similar to a mountain. they grow and get to the point where they want to be. then they truly just don't try anymore, therefore their popularity falls greatly, and sometimes kind of falls like a cliff....hopefully a new band with a lot of creativity will come out soon.

Hi My Name Is Mark

my friend ordered me the 2 disc burn vinyl's! which is cool...i'm just gonna pay him back when they come in, cause my parents wont order me anything, so i'm gonna see if he can order me some more vinyl's and i'll probably end up buying his record player, if i don't get a really good one for my birthday or something...for now i'm just using my brothers

are there any alkaline trio vinyl's with really rare stuff (other than the halloween 7") that i could get?

Ok, so I'm labelling up my music collection. According to Amazon: Good Mourning, From Here To Infirmary and Maybe I'll Catch Fire were all released within about a week of eachother in 2003. Obviously they were re-released at this time, and Amazon appear to have no other dates. The official site is refusing to load.

Anyone got the real release years? I'm a git for wanted all my music sorted out.

EDIT: Never mind. The official site finally decided to load, damned flash.

what do you guys think would be a good alk3 song for my ska band to cover? preferably with little to no swearing or at least something we can change...i was kind of thinking Maybe I'll Catch Fire, but i wanna know you guys' opinions on it...

If you wanna hear a sample of a little bit of what we sound like, our first song we wrote and recorded is on our myspace

http://www.myspace.com

we have 2 more songs finished and we're working on more (we've only been together for a little bit) and some of our stuff is definately darker and better than the song we have up. we need to get the newest song recorded, it's so sick. and there's a fill i came up with by watching derek on the halloween DVD

I think This Could Be Love could work as a ska song. Have the horns playing the lead guitar riff, and change the guitar parts a bit. It could work out I guess.

Well, the UK version is, because it is the 10 tracks, and then has Goodbye Forever, Snake Oil Tanker, I Lied My Face Off and This Is Getting Over You as bonus tracks.

"Crimson" is easily their best album. I wrote a short review of it too.

Pop punk used to be a love/hate relationship for me. I once despised the genre, but then became almost enthralled by it. I’ve come out of both phases to become a much more matured music critic of the genre. I’m indifferent to a lot of what it has to offer, but there are still a few bands that hook me line and sinker. Alkaline Trio is at the forefront of those bands with their latest release being an absolute standout record. Pop punk is known for being simple, but this band takes that simplicity and downgrades a few notches. Someone who had been playing guitar for only a week could be easily play a lot of the bands catalogue. So why am I so charmed by the tracks on “Crimson”? It may be hard to believe, but there are several reasons that manage to surface. For one, while the guitar riffs are some of the simplest ever, they do not get old. Another thing is the bass playing. Daniel Andriano supports most songs with an interesting bass line that is usually high in the mix of the songs. Then there is the fact that even though frontman Matt Skiba isn’t one of the best singers and can’t add variety to the songs he still manages to be irresistibly catchy. Bassist Daniel contributes his brassier voice quite a bit to some songs. “Mercy Me” is a prominent song on “Crimson” because Daniel and Matt commit a dual vocal attack for the whole song. With a higher and lower vocal attack together it makes for one of the most memorable tracks. “Crimson” is an incredible album that never lacks. Sadly, it just may be both the most overlooked and underrated album of 2005.

I like the way Matts scruffyness of voice can add a lot af extra emotion to a song, e.g. Blue in the Face (although, true, illness played a part in that tone too).

we can never break up? that was released on the Masters of Horror album. if i remember correctly, it's got a lot of good bands, but i havent looked at who all is on it in a while, and i dont own it. however, if you just want that song you can purchase it on iTunes. just search for We Can Never Break Up, and it should have 2 copies, one is album only, and one is $.99, if you live in the US.
