I want to learn piano, what should i start on?

i would love to learn to play piano, just i wouldn't be able to learn on a full size piano, becuz i don't have the money nor space in my house. so i might have to settle on a 100$ 61 key keyboard to learn. i can't afford lessons either, so what could i use to learn from? and would that cheap 61 key keyboard be good to learn on?

You can pick up full-size 88 note electric pianos second-hand to learn on cheaply enough - try to get one with a realistic "touch" though. Online tuition is available, as are "learning manuals" - usually with accompanying videos/cds'.

A Cassio would be SOMETHING, I suppose, but not very much. I think you can probably find a piano in the neighborhood you would be allowed to use regularly if you put your mind and your feet to it. Try schools, churches, friends, and relatives. You do pretty much need a real piano, and real pianos are plentiful. You don't necessarily have actually to own one or actually to put one in your dwelling. I've never owned a piano in my life, and I play nearly every day.

Yeah, pianos might be more common than you think, even if you can't own one. But I guess it would be nice to have a keyboard too.

As far as lessons go, some keyboards have little tutorials on them... but I wouldn't really recommend them in place of actual lessons.

there are books where you can 'learn to play piano'. if your motivated, you can teach yourself with those. as for the keyboard, id say buy a yamaha for around $100. ive got one, and it works great. i dont use it so much now, because ive gotten more advanced and have gotten to the point of needing to use all of the keys, but if you get a yamaha, that might be the only thing youll need for a looooong time.

Seriously, listen to these guys. You can get an 88 key clavinova off ebay dirt cheap. It'd be better giving yourself the best start you can get, learning on anything under 76 keys would only destroy your soul >_< There are loads of tuition sites about, but if you could, I would really recommend a teacher. Maybe not even permanent, but a few one off lessons would really help if you used them in combination with self tuition.

And of course, you can always come here and ask for help :)
