First off, I am an anarcho-punk. Secondly, simply put, i personally believe in the philosophies of Christ, but i don't believe that anyone should be confined to any religion, and i'm fu(king sick of how today the American gov't ignores the idea of religious freedom at every turn, especially now that gays are starting to make a stand, and America is constantly trying to put them down. Why? Because of religion. And it may be my religion, and i'll admit that i feel pretty fu(king guilty.
"Christian" does not mean "fundamentalist as$hole christian".

Finished my halloween costume tonight.
Pretty shoddy, but I wasn't really planning on dressing up beforehand, so it's not too bad I suppose.
I'm going as a picture of a giraffe.

I kind of wish I would have done a background, and am thinking about putting something in the blank space off to the side there, looks a little blank.
What do you guys think? Cost me nothing, and only took a little while. Not the best obviously, but I just have to wear it at work for a couple hours.
thats pretty rad but yea, a little scenery would make it stand out a lot more.
i have this childrens tiger suit i wore last year and was too lazy to get something new so i just put a twist on it. im being tigerwoods, just wearing the tigersuit plus a nike hat and 9-iron. and golf shorts since i had to cut the crotch out of the costume for comfort reasons.
Edit: to the zine
My criticism would probably be the use of "insane ramblings." I had to check and make sure that's what it said because actually I thought you had written "incoherent ramblings," and this is better than that. However, "insane ramblings" is roughly something I would've titled a zine had I tried to write one in 7th grade. People don't want to read ramblings, they would rather read clear, concise writing. Espcially since yours sounds fairly political, you want to be able to state, and state clearly, what you are trying to say. "insane" doesn't help your argument, and "ramblings" doesn't entice readers.
And I'm done treating the DIY thread like english class. Have a nice day.

I don't see an "s".
Wow, you are correct. Dyslexia strikes again!
Still, I think the use of inane doesn't strengthen the title, and much of what I said applies to it, even if I read it wrong. Inane is a bit more mature than insane, though.

I actually put it in the oven. Microwaving never works for me.
Thanks for the idea. Might have to give it a try. :)
One way I was thinking was to heat up the army men before-hand to where they're almost melting, then throw them on the vinyl and heat them together. Army men melt to vinyl, vinyl gets loose enough without burning to press army men into it a bit further.
Sounds good in theory.
May have to try it this weekend when I'm off work.

I kinda tried to get that frank, somewhat jokingly funny title feel going. It's hard to get someone to laugh at a title but still take it seriously. But it is a serious zine though, i've written a review, drawn some good stuff, and wrote a small article about misantrophy.
Yeah, that cover's sorta a rough, now that you mention it. I'm gonna keep at it till i get it right. First, i gotta learn, once and for all, how to draw hands. They've given me trouble over the years, especially when i wanna take my drawings seriously.
At my college there is a coffee shop close by that has this great zine library. I've been reading them a lot, so it's making me kind of critical of them. Some of them really inspire me to write one, though.
But do I really need to do one more DIY thing? I mean... really.

I made a Mt. Eerie stencil
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v428/BPMead007/mt.jpg
To go on a shirt with a quote from "The Moan" on the back
I think the logo needs to be bigger and the coyote smaller.
And I'm just going to stencil-ize the letters by hand
when you make a band t shirt yourself its like your saying 'hey look im a fag'
and jumping on a train so you can walk 4 hours isnt diy its just stupid

i could make those stickers in my sleep if sleep meant thirty minutes of concentrated Photoshop and vinyl station work.
Well for the first time in a long time I don't have any schoolwork I should be doing so I've been designing a stencil of a bee. So far so badass, but it's going to be a bitch to cut out.
Here's what I have of my bee stencil so far:
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v294/asdf23/BEES.jpg
I like it a lot so far, but the face is turning out to be much more difficult that anticipated. I've tried to make it 4 different ways now, none of which I have been happy with.

that bee is bit'chin.
what is the best way to make a checkered stencil?
I would probably say just making a checker pattern out of square cut pieces of tape onto the surface you're painting. Then... paint?
I basically finished designing that bee stencil, but I'm not 100% happy with it.
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v294/asdf23/BEES-1.jpg
So I got bored and made another one:

Can't really tell what is happening in the second picture.
Every single person I've shown that one to has said the same thing. So I'm basically not bothering with it anymore.
SkaRobotArmy
11-21-2007, 01:35 PM
i thought about the tape, but it seems like it might be a big pain in the butt and was trying to think of an easier way. first bee looks awesome, i don't quite get the second either. do you just draw them?
I drew them out in photoshop by going over an image.
The second one is from this original:
http://homepage.mac.com/eceisner/Insects/Bees_and_Wasps/bumblebee.jpg
And honestly I can't think of anything better than tape. cutting out stencils would be just as labor-intensive as the tape, and I don't think it would turn out well.

best thing i could think of is take an x-acto knife and some sort of arm on a "turn table" think ofa way a record player works. if u make the arm stiff you'll get an exact cut everytime. How to make this...i dont know.

12-12-2007, 12:25 AM
you don't need a circle cutter. just cut it out with scissors; as long as it's somewhat close to the line it won't matter, since the button maker wraps a certain margin of the paper circle around to the back of the button.
I've always had bad experiences with die cutters anyways - generally I'd say they're not worth the trouble.

Alex I think I already told you this but my button maker only makes buttons that are an inch and a quarter.
However, since I'm home I now have a printer with ink and if that's not a problem I might be able to help. As long as my button maker isn't messing up like it was at school.
How many do you need?
My dad gave me a belt he bought used and then realized it didn't fit him. It didn't fit me either (one ridiculously small belt), so I took the buckle off and put it on an old bike inner tube.

I'm doing a craft night at my work this month, and would like to do something with fried marbles, but can't think of anything to do with them.

Yeah, i have the leftover scraps in a ziploc. :)
Hm... would spraypaint work, or is there some other medium that works better with shirts? I'm planning to do it on a black shirt.
On fast songs, Felix makes me go like, "whaaaat?!... how?!..."
I've never seen spraypaint done on a black shirt, but I bet someone here knows if it works.
I use fabric paint. Not spray fabric paint, though, that stuff doesn't work at all.

I've used white spray paint on a black shirt, and it mostly looks like siolver. If you did a few coats, letting the paint dry between each, it might work. You'd be better off using acrylic paint. It's bright and will NEVER come off. Even if you try.

Really? What did you use?
I got it on my favorite pair of pants when I was in seventh grade and tried scraping it and washing it and soaking it and various other techniques that seeme like they'd work. I eventually used paint thinner and destroyed my pants, but that was after a year or so of trying to get it out.

That's among the better stencils I've seen. Probably one of the best in this thread. How long were you cuttung that thing? And how does carpal tunnel feel? haha
Thanks. It definitely added up to hours, but I did like 90% of it while at work, where I would only otherwise be on MX or maybe doing homework.
I need to think of other intricate stencils because people have liked this one so much. And it was a lot of work but it was really relaxing and fun too.

Multiple coats of spray paint gets really stiff. If you're going to use a acrylic thin it out a little bit first.

I like the bass pickguard and the phaser. How'd you get that sort of effect? Also, what's wrong with the Aquabats shirt? I think it's great. How'd you get that blue fade on it?
sub-bass
07-26-2008, 11:44 PM
Why thank you. For the pickguard I did a coat of blue over the purple/turquoise pattern I had before and for the phaser I think I coated it turquoise then made the pattern over it with blue just using different brush strokes. I do like the shirt but I don't want to take too much credit, I just used that iron on printer paper and a picture someone had made at the Aquabats forum. My only problem with it is that I didn't think to cut around it so there's a bunch useless white transfer material around the logo.
I've finished designing my bee stencil.

but very cool stencil anyway, as always.Yeah, I know, and it really upsets me. It's a serious problem that people should be more aware of, because if it keeps going on like this, it'll change so much. Bees do so much more than just make honey, they polinate so many crops we rely on.
Part of my bee stenciling kick, I think. Also, they're just cool. Interesting to look at.

1. Grab yourself a 3.5 mm to 2.5 mm plug adapter from your local best-buy/digital-whatever store
2. Plug the adapter into your iPod
3. Plug your iPod into the guitar amp like you would a guitar
4. Turn your iPod's volume to zero, and the amp's volume to ten
5. Play; you should get a medium-type volume range
6. Adjust your equalizer and the amp equalizers as preferred
