No, you really, really should have masked off around it, it would look 400x better.
i didnt do it brett did and its not even that bad. all the stencils on marks car have overspray. it really brings the car together. and yes brett made that image himself. not sure how but he did.

any ideas on ways to affix pin-badges to leather jackets better?
they always get ripped off and stuff, and I plan on ordering a bunch of Better Badges reissues from pinstand.com that I'd prefer not to lose.

So...how do you make patches stop unraveling.
You can fold the border of the patch into the back of the patch and sew it shut, but that's a bugger of a job if you can't be arsed to sew by hand (which I rarely can be), so I don't do it unless I have access to a sewing machine.
the-UK-ska-scene
11-15-2006, 07:22 AM
This doesn't STOP the patch unraveling, but it slows the process a little and is good if you can't be bothered to do anything with the edge of the patch before you sew it on: use blanket stitch. It looks quite nice too. Here's a 'how-to' to do it on crochet, do it exactly the same as here, just with a normal thread and passing through the fabric underneath (whatever you're sewing it to) as well

I guess just look at how other hats are made, then just adjust the design so you have the earflaps and the flip up thing in the front. To make the hat curved to fit your head you sew together i think 6 football shaped pieces of fabric
yes!
there was something on craftster.

Apparently I get it from my mom. The other day she pulled out this tape rack she made by hand (her dad wouldn't let her use powertools), that she even glued felt into teach of the tape holders. 11-25-2006, 09:11 PM
i always used electric tape, and then it didn't stay, so i moved to duct tape and it worked for a while. i think eventually if they are tearing you will just have to get a new pair, that's what i had to do anyway. or you could find old scraps of fabric that your mom has lying around and trying to sew it. you'd probably want quilting thread and needle to get through the canvas.
my ?: i learned to sew this summer and so far i have a sort of cute skirt, and am making a really adorable dress. anyone know how to make their own fabric, though? i mean like the design on it. also, anyone know about pattern making?

I put an iron-on smiley patch on mine, but also sewed around it, because ironing will only hold for so long.
Those shoes have been to hell and back, though, and I am so on the verge of retiring them. I have two good pairs of converse that I can wear, so I have no excuse to be wearing shoes in such poor shape.

PF Flyers hold up really good, yeah.
Speaking of shoes going to hell, I've got some really nice doc martens, and I've had them for about 4 years now. For the most part they are holding up amazingly, but I have a problem. The Sole is wearing away quite a bit, and it makes for easy slipping on the ice in the winter.

But isn't there air in the soles?

That's rubber isn't it? Heat up a fork or something and melt lines into it at intervals, about half a centimetre in, or however much you want it. Like branding a cow, but to the boot. Actually if you have an old brand lying around, that'd be pretty sweet.

You could just bend some thin metal into a design and heat it up on the stove or something, couldn't you?
Yeah, but my boot soles are pretty tough. I don't know if merely melting it will be that easy.

Get all of it and pawn the parts or sell them on ebay?I was thinking that, but for a few reasons that's not going to happen.
First off, I'm not 100% sure if they are actually being thrown away. For all I know, they might be being donated somewhere, and they only allowed my friend and I to take what we could use (I don't know the specifics, because my friend asked before I got there, and he's very vague).
Second, the majority of the stuff there are these ancient macintoch that are very, very shitty. It is likely no one would want them anyway.
Third, I don't have the vehicle capacity, or house capacity for 20 odd macs.

this does not always work, if you look at my examples on the last page. But you just have to get lucky with th picture I guess. There are other ways but im not very good at using photoshop.

when i make my own i use Photoshop. you de-saturate then use brightness/contrast to get it completely black and white.
this does not always work, if you look at my examples on the last page. But you just have to get lucky with th picture I guess. There are other ways but im not very good at using photoshop.thanks man, that's exactly the kinda answer I was looking for.

I'm afraid I don't know much about making/editting clothes, but usually it's a combination of fold>pin>sew>cut.
Well yeah.
I'm just trying to figure out what kind of skirt would look cool.
There's too many shapes, too many options, too much variety.
And for once, google is failing me.

I actually saw someone with a skirt like that.
It was pretty cool.
But I need a prom dress skirt.
Damnit.

I know a girl who made a duct tape prom dress. It looked pretty good actually for being duct tape. She used lots of different colors

Haha yeah.
Last year there was a chick with starburst wrappers. It was pretty chill.
Somebody's doing some OTHER kind of wrapper this year, I think.
I just want a plaid one.
I guess I'll just do a basic skirt. Kinda a mid-way thing. Not too poofy, but not straight down, either.

A friend of mine and his mom made one of those for him. Same goes for being made out of bandanas. Skirt, though, not a dress.

Bandanas?
WOW do I want to do that.
Bandanas arn't allowed in my school.
Hmm...genious idea right there.
Why aren't they allowed? Gang-related? Uniforms?
One of the things I like about my school is it's really relaxed dresscodes. I've seen the prinicpal giving students high-fives for whatever beer their shirts were promoting.

Gang-related.
They're all super hardcore about it this year, too, 'cause the fights that've been goin' on.
Like, you can't have one around your neck, in your pocket, around your wrist, ANYWHERE visible.
The dress code is uber lax except for 1 lady.
And you'd think, in a school of over 3,000, 1 lady wouldn't be able to find you ever?
Dude, she sees every last person in that building.
This isn't a problem for my school, which consists of nearly 90% being upper middle. I don't technically live in their city, so I'm one of the few exceptions.

I don't live in a city at all.
I live, basically, in a boarder town.
Mexico is like. Right there.
And the black people and the Mexicans don't get along at ALL.
Oh, and the white guys are just tryin' to get in on some violent action, but they're all pretty silly.
Well, seeing as I go to a school with sheltered white kids, I do see the occasional white guys trying to be tough. They generally fail.
Mostly the kids just become horribly corrupt. Excessive drug use, rape, and eating disorders run rampant, but are never talked about.

Oh, see, we have that.
Drug use to the max [there are a shitload of meth labs like 15 minutes out of town..and I live on the edge of town..], rape and abductions, people are either 500 lbs or 50, fights like hell with guns and tire irons and knives and brass knuckles...
And it's talked about often.
But the police don't care.
Especially if you give them like $50.

we're not allowed to wear hats at my school. it makes me mad especially now when a beanie or other warm hat would really help keep me warm.

i didnt think that sierra vista was that close to the border
edit: whoops i guess i was mistaken i always thought of it as being north of tucson.
My skinhead friend is nearly regretting getting a chelsea cut just as the winter weather was approaching. I thought it was a bit silly in the first place but I didn't stop her.
There's no rules about hats at my school, but occasionally there's the asshole teacher that makes it a rule for their classroom. This year for a change, none of my teachers care, so I can wear my tophat without fail.

Well.
It's only like an hour~hour and a half to Nogales.
Same to Douglas, different direction.
Far as I'm concerned, that's close enough.
I can see the border mountains from my bedroom window, and there's a border checkpoint between here and Tucson, and there's a blimp like 10 minutes away from my house [right by my friend's house, actually] that's there for the sole purpose of catching illegals, and the border patrol field lights keep flashing this weird creepy blue that looks like aliens...
It's very border-centered around here.
Everythings border-border-border.

Living in Michigan FTW. No one cares if Canadians sneak in. Because... what Canadian is ever going to sneak in?

You're so lucky, you have no idea.
I love going up to Tucson, except driving on I-90 because you get massive speeding tickets =/
I went last Saturday to take my board up to get it tuned for the season...that one ski & snowboard shop on Broadway? Yeah.
And I want a Rex's Revenge from Beyond Bread =(
