I think of making a shirt for the Scottish Games in September.
Ideally I'd like to make a stencil of this flag (http://www.meridianmagazine.com/images/unicorn/flag_scot.gif) on the front.
But that may be hard, so I may just the St. Andrew's Cross flag (http://delkurt.e2blog.fr/photos/uncategorized/scotland20flag.jpg)
On the back will probably be the words "Scots Wha Hae (http://www.worldburnsclub.com/poems/translations/424.htm)" and maybe some words from the actual poem.
Sound like a good idea? Any suggestions?
I love the poem, and you could make the lion flag easy if you put in a bridge at each corner of the square.

You could probably make that flag in a two layer stencil.
A single layer would be easier. Just chuck in some bridge here and there and you're set.

I made a flyer for the Ghost Mice gig I'm organising, but tinypic would only take .tif and Photoshop won't let me change a .psd to a .bmp so all the colours are off and you can't make out details, but here it is:
http://i5.tinypic.com/11ug57q.jpg
Originally, the background was grayscaled and the three mice were in negative colours. GHOST MICE is supposed to be in green and the writing underneath was a brighter pink. If anyone knows how to convert .psd files into .bmp or .jpg files, please tell me.

Does any one have any links to a file i can download to get stencil words on to my Microsoft works.(cheap version of microsoft word)
Also if some one has the link, what font size is the best to be used for a stencil. Im thinking of putting the lyrics on to the back. there are only about 10-15 lines. Its for the song Kill Your Television. ive finally got around to making the shirt.

Then that's a good thing, because if it's a recognised font that's used in a capitalist setting, people who recognise the font will see it on some stencil that says Capitalism Sucks (or something equally anti-estab) and it will catch their attention more. It's called subvertising.

Yeah, the crappy stencil I did doesn't really matter, because I'm putting it on a wall in my basement, which is set up specifically for me to just do whatever I want. Some of its' been good, some of it is not, but it's all learning experience at this point.

Ahah, we all have to start somewhere.
When you spray make sure you shake up the can REALLY well before you use it. And hold the can like...a foot or more away from the stencil..
If I've got nothing else to do today I'll make a video.

After i get done the stencil im doing now, i want to do a Joe Strummer shirt. Does anyone know where i can get a stencil of him. This is the best one i can find: http://www.stencilrevolution.com/photopost/showphoto.php?photo=49509&si=joe%20strummer
Should i just cut out the black parts same with stencil punks.
Also what does Bolivian flag have to do with joe strummer. Does it stand for freedom or something. The reason im asking is cause behind the picture i want to put that flag, cause ive seen it with him in every picture i have seen of him.

How do you cut out detailed stuff. like really tight lines, and sharp curves. I ended up using a thumb tack and pressing holes, so there are tiny little rips.
Also im using that freezer paper as suggested on Stencil Punks. i was wondering, can you re-use it. cause i want to test it, but i wont if i can only use it once.
Oi Eran did you go in the end?
I was blacked out for 3 1/2 hours, but the second the Subs came on I jumped up, ran past the paramedics and got to the stage just in time.
Please PLEASE let me know of any more punk festivals/anomolies, that was the most fun I've had in ages (what I remember of it anyway)

Incorporate the stains into a new drawing. Usually, grass stains come out in a normal wash.
But so will my GBH stencil and Dead Boys lyrics :(

With some Oi! compilation tapes it will then be a perfect accompaniment to sitting on the street in touristy parts of London photo-begging =D

So I wanted to make a quick back patch for my jacket with my old operation ivy stencil, black t-shirt fabric and white spray paint.
I knew people told me it was hard to spray white on black and they were so right. it's the biggest bitch to paint. But Im getting there. I'm just painting REALLY thick layers of paint on the shirt. It should be done soon and hopefully dry tomorrow morning.

Ok, I need a hell of a lot of paint. I think that as a project this summer, I'm going to make a huge banner to drop from somewhere downtown. So I don't want to pay for that much cloth and paint, because I think it can be done without spending a hundred dollars or so that it might cost. Does anyone have any suggestions on where I could get cloth like canvas or sheets on which to paint for very cheap or free?
Also, same goes for paint although I think that it might be cheaper to make paint....I think it can be one with eggs or something, but I have no such experience. Also I want to do a more colorful & detailed banner than just black on white with a slogan; have it be actual artwork done by my friends and I. The paint will have to work well enough for multiple layers and stand to be rolled and unrolled multiple times. Waterproofing would be good but not a must...

One thing that could look cool, would be if you got a bunch of different sheets/blankets/etc from yard sales, and sort of sewed them together all patchwork-like, and put your text in bold black in front of it. To make a big one, fabric paint would obviously be expensive, so you could probably go with something where you can get more quantity, but it mightn't last as long as fabric paint would. Not sure what would work though.
As for waterproofing it, go to a camping store or something, and get some tent-waterproofing sealant. That would be my best guess.
What're you thinking about putting on the banner? Man, I totally wish I'd thought of this first. :)

^ hey man amazon rules. ive never bought cloths off of there before.
jodan did you recut that stencil or fix the old one which stencil?
i decided yesterday that im going to make 2 suits. one for prom and hte other for homecoming. for one of them im going to apprehend a white suit and do it like i did that shirt with wutang all over it in a bunch of different colors. for the second one im going to get 2 suits of different colors (im thinking black and yellow) and im going to cut them in half and sew them to eachother so half of the suit is black and the other half is yellow. it will take some doing but i think i can do it.
p.s: brett, where the hell are you? what country are you in?

hey i have a question,
im painting up a button down shirt for a costume (im dressing up as a zombie) and im wondering how would i apply the red paint so it looks like blood splatters?
thanx

The best tactic would probably be to load up a paint brush heavily with the paint and then splatter it onto the shirt.

Yes. Load the brush, then pull back the bristles with your thumb and let them snap back, splattering the paint on the shirt. I painted parts of my room in the same fashion. Also be sure to do this out side or with a good backdrop as it will probably get messy.
coheneran
07-06-2006, 11:28 AM
But then the splatters will be long and thin, and won't look so much like blood splatter. I think it's better to just pull your army back and bring it forward (as if you were hammering a nail) to splash the paint onto the cloth. Probably best to experiment with different methods though and choose your favourite.

Lol, I've never even listened to an Aquabats song (knowingly), it was just the first band name to pop up when I was thinking about what the stencils are of. I guess I was just think in alphabetical order:p.
You haven't really explained why we shouldn't make band logos (not that I ever made a band logo, but I'm not against them if people want to flaunt their musical taste or have cool logos on their punkass jeans and jackets), you've just said that they are gay over and over again. I like to see the shirts that people make even if it isn't an original design. It's still DIY even if they don't make the design themselves. There's a huge difference between buying a shirt and making one.

I made a stencil of the King Blues, a local and amazing band:
http://i6.tinypic.com/1zgwyds.jpg
The original pic was this:
http://www.householdnamerecords.co.uk/bands/kingblues.php
There are far too many bridges, but that was the least of my problems. As they're standing in the fore, mid and background the brightness on each member was different, so I had to copy each third of the pic to a different layer, make a different contrast/brightness setting to each one, then copy the result back into the original layer.
Well, at least it does not look as bad as this mouse riding a frog:

Does anyone know how to go about making shoes. it doesn’t seem all that hard. ill be using sandals as the bottom.
How would i go about A) getting the shoe shape correct B)make it durable.
is it all just guess and check??
most likely its going to turn out to look like chucks. Hopefully comfier. If i do start the project then i wont start until i start to like shoes over sandals, so i would like to be prepared for when i do start.
edit: I goin to start on some easy laid back shirts. right now ive just decided to do Dead Kennedy’s and The Clash. Hopefully it doesn’t turn in to anything to fancy and original.
