The Review

Painkiller - The song that made the title. This is a killer song. Everything from the short drum solo to the beginning to the beginning guitar riff, to Halford's high pitched screams, this is the ultimate metal song. Squealing pinch harmonics, and the solo gives you the feel like it's the 1980's again. 5/5

Hell Patrol - Almost Iron Maiden like intro (in a weird way) definately a break from the heaviness compared to Painkiller, which is good. This song doesn't really give you the same feeling as Painkiller, but more of a feeling like you are watching a biker gang. (again, in a weird way) Good song. 4.5/5

All Guns Blazing - Kicks off with high pitched words from Halford, which leads into a badass intro riff. Halford gets the rhythm of the vocals down in this song PERFECTLY. "All, guns, all guns blazing" The solo in this song is typical Priest. Amazing, and it fits right into the song. Very good. 5/5

Leather Rebel - Starts off with an intro with fast tremelo picking. Halford sings slower in this song. I think the chorus makes this song, and that is the sole reason why I like this song so much. It's the ultimate metal Priest feeling. Good song. 4.5/5

Metal Meltdown - One of my favorites. Starts right out with some tapping on the guitar. As in, a short solo at the beginning which is amazing. Then the opening riff comes in, and then you hear Halford, with his legendary high pitched vocals that got him to fame. Definately a great song. "Here comes the metal meltdown, run for your lives" A very Priesty feeling song that you will love. 5/5

Nightcrawler - Starts out with a strike of lightning, and a choir. Very unlike Priest, but the guitar comes in, and you start to see where it is going. This is a very simple opening riff, yet it blends well with the bass. This song is definately one of the more laid back ones. Not a bad thing though. 4.5/5

Between the Hammer & the Anvil Just from the title, you can see that this will be a killer song. Starts off with harmonizing, slow chords, that eventually build up into what sounds to me, as a more Queensryche feeling first riff, but of course, it isn't like it's a ripoff. It's just my opinion. A classic sounding Priest song. 4/5

A Touch of Evil - Starts off with bells, and wind. And a weird keyboard type 5 note scale. The guitar comes in, and it turns into more of a metal-feeling song again. This song is a bit different, compared to the others on the album. First of all, they are using a keyboard/synth type thing. The song is definately a different tempo than typical Priest, and is actually very melodic, which is also a bit unlike Priest. But still not bad. The song doesn't start to impress me until the solo, which is why I'm giving this a 4/5

Battle Hymn - Starts off with a very deep...thing that kind of hurts my ears :'( but when the guitar comes in, you realize that this song will be badass. Again, there is a keyboard choir...which is a bit weird, but that's beside the point, and I shouldn't be focusing on that. This song is actually just a one minute long masterpiece. That's right. I love this part, and it leads perfectly into the next song 5/5

One Shot at Glory - Opens with an awesome riff with pinch harmonics. Then it leads right into an awesome solo. Halford comes in, and we go back to typical, heavy metal Priest. This is more of a melodic song, but still very good. Good song. 4.5/5

Living Bad Dreams - This song starts off slow, and a bit ambient. Then the guitar comes in, with some weird effects. This is 'the slow song'. Very good. Something I have never really heard from Halford. His voice definately sounds different. Very memorable, and beautiful. 5/5

Leather Rebel (live) - This song is almost better live than it is on the cd. Very good stuff. This band plays incredibly well live, and I respect that. I can't really properly review it, since I already reviewed the song, but Priest definately did a very good job playing this live, although Halford doesn't always do his high pitched screams. 4/5

Overall Rating:

55/60=4.6/5

I've only heard the Death cover of "PainKiller" but it's incredible.

Besides Schuldiner, Death stayed pretty close to the original, besides at the solo of the song. But you should download it. Badass song.

And it's got a killer scream at the start. When I was checking out Judas Priest, I accidentally got the Death version by mistake!
