Review:

Belle & Sebastian are a Scottish band based in and around the city of Glasgow. The band was formed in 1996 by Stuart Murdoch and Stuart David and recorded their first album, 'Tigermilk' at Stow College in Glasgow.

Belle & Sebastian are regularly compared to artists such as Nick Drake, The Smiths, Love, Donovan, Scott Walker, Simon & Garfunkel, Leonard Cohen, and The Velvet Underground.

If You’re Feeling Sinister, the bands sophomore release, is generally considered amongst B&S’s finest work. Musically, the album is very folkish, with most acoustic guitars, or clean electric guitars. On some songs such as Seeing Other People and The Fox In The Snow, the piano is the dominant instrument. Many of the tracks are also augmented with trumpet melodies (The Stars Of Track And Field) and gentle string arrangements (Like Dylan In The Movies and (The Boy Done Wrong Again).

The music is very tonal and really quite simple and pleasing. The lyrics are a definite high point to this album. They are fabulous - sometimes dark, sometimes thoughtful or introspective, but always interesting.

Favorite Songs: Like Dylan in the Movies, Get Me Away From Here, I’m Dying
